A looper for me has been, easily, the best buy I've ever made in terms of guitar playing. I've only been playing 12 or 13 years but once I got a looper, it really makes sense once you start improvising over something. Highly recommended. I felt I really plateaud after a while, but the looper has really been pushing me to get better. Highly recommended for others who feel their playing has stopped improving and don't have one.
Have you tried Blackstar ID core with pedals in front? how do they sound and feel like, I'm thinking about getting a 150 and already have overdrive, distortion, fuzz, EQ, delay, reverb pedal in my pedalboard, is there any wiser option I should go for? I love Blackstar amps
Really enjoyed this demo..some great tones from the Capt & Chappers, can I say a big thanks to all for doing these vids, with trolls and haters that the internet seems to generate these days, I just want to say thanks to the lads for doing these videos. There are so many slick "buy this" videos out there.. but the Andertons Vids are like going round to a mates and trying out gear..honest review's and a good laugh :) Always brightens up a day when I see a new Capt & Chappers vid. Mark Roddy Hi, i've written at the captains Facebook Account with a similar idea. he told me that they're planning on a comparison of the several modelling amplifiers
I second that. Does Andersons DO "shoot outs?" They are, after all, in the business of selling several lines of product. Doing an honest "shootout" may be tricky when you're in the business carrying and representing several lines of product.
Mark Roddy I agree with Oscar. The Boss and Blackstar both sound very good, but the tone studio of the Katana give really fantastic control. I didn't like the line 6 as much. Also, the Orange amps near this range have fewer features but sound great.
Hey Rob! You should do a challenge with a budget of £1000 you'll go and pick rigs in each others styles. For example Rob goes to pick the rig in his style and after that Lee , who is not allowed to know Robs chosen rig at this point, goes and chooses the rig in Robs style. Next you bring those rigs to the video room and compare them. Then do the same the other way. This an extra if you want to do it: You get points for example if the rig is in Lees style and Rob has picked something that Lee had chosen for himself. You get also points for similar sounds and also you can get points if Lee would prefer the rig Rob chose to Lees style.
Deffo good to have a solid state practice style amp shootout for those that either cant afford valve or need the tones that solid state can give at very low volumes! Id say do the blackstar id cores, tvp as well, marshall core, boss katana and the new spider 5 as they are all direct competitors with similar features and price ranges.
I think that Blackstar is making superb amplifiers. I have three of them and will likely add a fourth. I have a Fly for when I need to sound extra small, an ID Core 40...which is a very enjoyable and room-able practice amp...and an ID 100 TVP head. That last one is super enjoyable and actually does get quite loud. It races most of the way with my valve amps (some of which are shamefully expensive). Technology is advancing rapidly enough that it won't be long before the digital amps sound as good as the valve (depending upon brand and type of tone you want, this achievable now).
Been a Marshall guy throughout and recently was having non stop issues with my valve states and tube amps from Marshall and them with pedals was a nightmare. Sold them and bought this. Sad to not be playing a Marshall but this gives the same if not better tones and so much more. Cleaner. Crisper. Modern and reliable. Works every time. Buzzing great buy!
I own the IDCORE20 - absolutely love it. I've gone through several solid state home practice amps and none of them did it for me, then I came across this one. Home practice amp shopping is finally done. This one's a keeper.
Lee's delay and tone was amazing. It seems these modelling amps have got a lot better, though once Lee turned off the delay you could hear a more 'digital' sound. These amps also seem to be very good value, maybe we can see an end to some of the awful practice amps parents like to buy while supposedly encouraging their kids to play..
I thought the distorted tone sounded ok, just the clean tone sounded like a virtual instrument that had been recorded digitally and brightly. To my ears the Blackstar amps were on par with the Kemper. It is the "warmth" of valves that is hard to replicate but maybe a pedal could do that..
First of all, your*. Secondly, it only takes half a brain cell to understand that he's talking about parent's buying their children, keyword being "children", shitty amps. Not adults or teens with jobs, children.
Thanks for the video. I bought one of these because of the awesome surround sound it creates. I just ordered the bigger pedal to make it easier to change the tones. The 100 is plenty of power for me. Keep up the awesome videos! :) Take care, Sam.
Rob's playing in a lot of the guitar demo's is kinda one dimensional (distorted shredding) but with Lee dialing in the various tones and effects on the amp while Rob is playing the guitar we get to see more of Rob's abilities ... AND I LIKE IT.
I recently purchased a Epiphone Les Paul Traditional Pro II (Wine Red). It's my first "proper" guitar. I was looking for a nice amp and now I think I've found it! I'm a beginner/novice player and I think not only can I use this amp right from the beginning but, with all of the features this Blackstar has built in I shall be able to grow into this amp as my playing, talent, creativity, and mastery grow. Again thanks for you time and information.
This may be just me and my lackluster speakers, but in all your recent product demo videos, the gear is substantially louder than the presenters' voices. So I have to keep playing the volume knob game where I have to turn the volume way up to even attempt to hear Rob and The Captain speak, and then turn it way down when you're playing because it's blowing my ears out. It's kind of the same for me for all the other Andertons videos too. If I'm the only one that feels this way, then completely ignore me. I'll watch your videos no matter what, but if others are having the same experience as me then I'd like to suggest more vocal mic volume during product demos so that the volume of the presenters' voices are a little closer to the volume of the gear being demoed. Love the videos regardless. Thanks for showing us all this awesome gear.
Thomas Haynes I feel that it has always been rather off balance, to be honest. It's not that I can't hear them, but I still have to play the volume button game to enjoy it 100%... The music is way louder, and if it's at the same time I get it, but editing should be able to normalise the sound so it's more balanced when they're not playing.
I wouldn't say substantially but there is definitely a difference in audio levels, even with good quality headphones. I thought it was just me though, obviously not.
Would agree, it arrived with the switch to lapel voice mics. One problem with these is they are very positional dependent. Noticed the mics often get pinned to the 'wrong side' of the person as in this video they are both on opposing sides to them speaking to each other, so you get a fall off in levels. When turning to the amps to change settings the mic is also away from the speaking direction. Also 'tee's' present the problem of using the convenient placement at the t's neck which is too high up, they need to be further down the chest but that's more difficult if only wearing t-shirt.
This amp is very underrated, I have the ID Core 100 and the Katana 50. The ID Core doesn't get the credit it deserves! Also the Blackstar software is MUCH easier to use than the Katana software and it also has ALOT more patches!
Because we love to be INSIDER 😂😂😂 I effing love this channel. The opening jam was some of the smoothest I've heard from an andertons vid. This amp must be super because they don't normally dote over combo amps.
I've got one of these - the smaller 20, and I've got to say, there are no other small solid-state practice amps I'd rather play. It's just so responsive.
I plugged in earphones on your say so and wow! Stereo wow! Your voices sound tinny though.... Keep it up Chaps, love this stuff. True inspiration to spend all of my money.
Richard Clark The katana 50 is definitely the best sounding amp out of the 3. comparing the higher gain sounds to the blackstar? The katana definitely has a better sound and definitely not as bassy as the blackstar which is one of the cons of the id30. Its definitely my least favorite of the three. I would plug my thr in over the blackstar any day. I keep it around just for a different sound also if I need a but more bass when playing with humbuckers.
I have used this amp (150 watt version) on its own and as a powered stereo amp with my Pod HD 500X. Works very well as both. Have more configurations to try.

Blackstar ID series has supported me in live gig situations since it hit Australia... because it sounds good, and is lighter than a valve amp. I'd pay for, and would love the support of the ID features in a floorboard, that let's me DI to the desk, and decide on how big (if any) an on-stage speaker box I need. Keep on building guys... you're an asset to the industry. Regards Robert
Would you/could you plug an acoustic into this... Or would it be better to get the boss katana? Love the looper, price and super wide space sound thingy
It definitely takes some tweaking, but good lord does it pay off when you give it time. I almost sold it for an Orange crush pro and I’m so glad that in the end I didn’t.
Apart from stereo on the Blackstar the sound doesn't seem to be too much different, although I liked that of the Boss better. The differences can rather be found in features and infrastructure/software/patch community I guess (e.g. the Marshall Code is half useless since even after almost a year they still fail to give the community the tools to share their patches - although it's one of their selling points). And while the Blackstar is cheaper and has a built-in looper, I guess the rest of the package is more extensive on the Boss - to me the software (e.g. all the Boss software pedals you get along with the Katana) is not just a free bonus addon but an important and big part of the amps for their price. And while it's such a big part of the amps the software and its features isn't usually shown in these videos (which makes them kinda half-backed). Without that I'm not sure what the better product in that price range is.
How would I know, I don't have it. I dare to say though that none of the competitors are crap. Good sound on the other hand is plain personal preference. So once you've picked your options I guess the question is rather what's the best bang for your buck opposed to good or bad sound.
Chapman guitars are really versatile! Beautiful tone! Really emotional playing Rob at the beginning! I can see the Chapman guitars being a big thing at some stage in my life!
My IFS is always at or very near ten to mimic that British, Marshall tone. Especially with the OD and crunch settings. Kicking little amp that over exceeds my expectations in many ways but dont think I would use it to gig. Simply not loud enough. At least not in south Louisiana USA. But in a bed room..........watch out!! Amazing spacial sound, true stereo unlike anything I have ever heard out of an amp! Really throws it around.
Nice layed back playing at beginning! I really dug hearing the Capt. and Chappers playing that mellow. I get tired of Chappers shredding riffs, it's a tad too much at times. Very nice effects on that Blackstar, puts that Line6 to shame, more like burys it.
Hey guys, what settings were you using to get that Strymon Shimmer emulation? I got a Core 150 and it's stunning with my 88 Strat Plus with the EMG-DMG20 active pickups.
Honestly, the first thing I thought while watching was "wow, fancy guitar, Captain! Does Gibson really make something this nice nowadays?" Answer: nope.
Jenda Hrbek that's because everyone lost their minds when they tried to branch out and make stuff that wasn't just a piece for piece copy of a 59. They kind of gave up on innovation and being unique.
Cool amp & video,..but does the 2X10 format have a better stereo sound field than the 1x12? And which do you recommend that I get? And how does the id core beam compare and again,. Which do you recommend out of the three? I just purchased a Bluetooth device that will allow me to make the id core work as 2x10 or 1x12 Bluetooth speaker,.. please keep that in mind as you give me your recommendation. Thanks a million!
Sweet Amps to me!...visualizing the sound on stage excites me! Seems they could do justice for any pedalboard set-up and expand the sound field to satisfaction thus motivating the playing!...👍🏾 On my list of desired gear!!..👌🏾🎶🔊🔊 So how & where can I get one in Japan?
You rule guys! I absolutely love that you 2 are doing accrual tests. In this video i discovered that -No, that's no amp of mine. But you give it an all in when you try out guitars, amps, effects and give it a go for the money. It's really appreciated amongst musicians to get a honest sound and an honest review about all the gear around. Keep the youtube channel honest as you do and keep giving honest reviews! I absolutely love checking in gear with you guys.... Here's a challenge for the 2 of you. My 2 best setups in terms of amps have been (in an late 80' and 90' metal/hard rock setup) has been: marshall valvestate with a marshall jmp1 preamp (amazing times) and the forgotten crate - bluevodoo head and 2x12 mashall box underneath. What kind of combo would you recomend for home practice that would fill the shoes of them old bastards?
..however, i can't live without Celestion GreenBacks and i just don't understand why these amps don't come with "Extention Speaker" output jacks..this way IF we wanted to just add a (2x12) or (4x10) Celestion enclosures..then we could enjoy better speaker configurations!!
Also use the 40watt stereo head(discontinued) into fender stereo 4x12 cabinet. With one of the best analog distortion pedals no longer made this combo is insane. Pure liquid sustain and detail. I would seriously rethink another higher powered head. Stereo is the future!
Does anybody else have trouble with awful hissing and buzzing when the Overdrive Voice is selected and the Gain is turned up on these Amps. Tried adjusting the Noise Gate settings using the Blackstar Insider Software which does stop the buzzing but it then cuts and stutters when playing arpeggios. Thought about trying a decent Noise Gate Pedal like the Boss NS 2.
Jesus, that opening jam. Probably the best thing ever.

Regards
Robert
Would you/could you plug an acoustic into this... Or would it be better to get the boss katana? Love the looper, price and super wide space sound thingy
Who else remembers the affordable guitars vid from years ago
Thanks for being awesome guys /,,/
Great Job guys and suburb amp. I'm getting the 100 series
Whhoooaah!!! What a soft awsome solo at intro! You're growing up Mr. Chappers 😉
Hey Rob, can you recall the settings you had on the Core 150 to get the Shimmer effect?
It definitely takes some tweaking, but good lord does it pay off when you give it time. I almost sold it for an Orange crush pro and I’m so glad that in the end I didn’t.
the audio of you two speaking is kinda low compared to everything else, just some constructive feedback :) love the videos!
killer opening solo Capt!
The question is: This or the Boss Katana?
Also, you wanted to show the looper - but didn't.
To me this sounds much better than the boss.
Eric M. Well, I'd go Katana all the way ^^
Why?
How would I know, I don't have it. I dare to say though that none of the competitors are crap. Good sound on the other hand is plain personal preference. So once you've picked your options I guess the question is rather what's the best bang for your buck opposed to good or bad sound.
great sounding amps, might have to purchase one of these come tax time! Rock on dudes!!:)
It would be very helpful if you guys could do a review of the Blackstar ID core 150 playing with a drummer to understand exactly how loud he can get
Great Review . Couldn't help noticing resemblance to Alan Alda which made it so much better :). Thanks!
Nice touch, Lee on that Gibson. I think that one suits you!
The shimmer sound rob had reminded me of an early coldplay sound, that alone makes me want this amp
probably got the best idea of these amps possible....... listening to an ID: core through a fly 3 stereo set of speakers!! :)
Hey guys, what settings were you using to get that Strymon Shimmer emulation? I got a Core 150 and it's stunning with my 88 Strat Plus with the EMG-DMG20 active pickups.
That LP... Sooooo smoooooth... Loooooove it... =D
Honestly, the first thing I thought while watching was "wow, fancy guitar, Captain! Does Gibson really make something this nice nowadays?"
Answer: nope.
Jenda Hrbek that's because everyone lost their minds when they tried to branch out and make stuff that wasn't just a piece for piece copy of a 59.
They kind of gave up on innovation and being unique.
They made honeyburst customs back in the 50s too.
Those were some tasty opening jams
Cool amp & video,..but does the 2X10 format have a better stereo sound field than the 1x12? And which do you recommend that I get? And how does the id core beam compare and again,. Which do you recommend out of the three? I just purchased a Bluetooth device that will allow me to make the id core work as 2x10 or 1x12 Bluetooth speaker,.. please keep that in mind as you give me your recommendation. Thanks a million!
Wow I’m buying this
The guy on the right can't be arsed with the guy on the lefts humour at all 😂. Great review though thanks!
yay rob scalllon guitarrr
Still cant believe the Seahawks didnt run it.
ktfjulien HA !!!
HAHAA OH MAN PETE CARROL WHAT WERE YOU THINKING, YOU HAVE BEAST MODE, HE SHOULD OF BEEN DRUG TESTED AFTER THE GAME
i had forgotten about it... now im sad again :(
fuck the chickenhawks
Pretty good amp...I wonder if it has a chorus effect...
Rob's best bluesy solo ever...
Sweet Amps to me!...visualizing the sound on stage excites me!
Seems they could do justice for any pedalboard set-up and expand the sound field to satisfaction thus motivating the playing!...👍🏾
On my list of desired gear!!..👌🏾🎶🔊🔊
So how & where can I get one in Japan?
Blackstar or Boss Katana?..Which one is better?
Boss Kantana would sound better IF..it were in Stereo, too!
..however, i can't live without Celestion GreenBacks and i just don't understand why these amps don't come with "Extention Speaker" output jacks..this way IF we wanted to just add a (2x12) or (4x10) Celestion enclosures..then we could enjoy better speaker configurations!!
The Fender Super Sonic has all the right goodies EXCEPT..it;s not Stereo!
And costed less.
The Backstar 100 is 100w stereo, Fx return is even stereo and for nearly £200 less.
Robs playing in the opening jam was tasty!
Also use the 40watt stereo head(discontinued) into fender stereo 4x12 cabinet. With one of the best analog distortion pedals no longer made this combo is insane. Pure liquid sustain and detail. I would seriously rethink another higher powered head. Stereo is the future!
Lees Les Paul looks great
Does anybody else have trouble with awful hissing and buzzing when the Overdrive Voice is selected and the Gain is turned up on these Amps. Tried adjusting the Noise Gate settings using the Blackstar Insider Software which does stop the buzzing but it then cuts and stutters when playing arpeggios. Thought about trying a decent Noise Gate Pedal like the Boss NS 2.
