    Thank you Kelvin. Your format is absolutely fine as is. I think most of us know the songs you are referring to which helps picture the speakers or amps strengths and weaknesses. I have a Yamaha cr 2020 powering a pair of Celestion Ditton 44. Would love to hear you review a pair of 44’s to 66’s The speakers I found in Quebec 350 miles from my home. It makes me smile when in other videos you mention having to travel a long way to get something and the you say 40 miles.
    Great work mate look forward to your work and the lava lamp!!

    I bought a pair of these 6 weeks ago for $100 AUD (Australian) - I then refoamed them which cost $28 for a full set with glue. And I can't get over the great sound they have, its hard to explain the clarity these speakers have a bit like wearing headphones - I have them set up on each side of a large computer monitor. They do serve well with an added sub but most speakers do. One of the most enjoyable speakers I have owned thus far. cheers

    I have a nice little mod for these. Replace the 6.8uf electrolytic capacitor with paralleled polypropylene film caps to make around 6.2uf and add 1 ohm series resistor (They sound a bit too bright just swapping electrolytic for film). Much better transparency and detail for the top end which sounds great with those speedy little woofers.

    An excellent way of discribing how a speaker sounds. If the music is known to you, it really gives you an idea of how it will sound in your own application. I have recently got my hands on a pair that I will complement with a subwoofer and I believe that I will thouroughly enjoy my new setup of speakers.

    Great review I thought you put the speakers into good context and emphasized positives and negatives. I think for the money these are one of the better bargains to be had which is also a point that came through in your video. Thanks for the video!

    I once thought B&O was just expensive eye candy until I found a pair of used unusual looking speakers by them in a thrift store a very long time ago. I can't remember the model but they were missing some kind of metal stands to connect them to. They weren't big, but I was impressed by the sound from what seemed just like a cheap black plastic cabinet and a single driver. I couldn't believe it could produce some of the low end bass sounds like it did. Overall though, it still wasn't impressive enough to keep them, but I gained some respect for their engineering.

    Both the CX100 and the CX50 are great speakers.
    For my home cinema/music system I'm using two Beovox S55 as front speakers with one CX100 as center and four CX50's as surround speakers.
    The great benefit from this is that all these speakers were designed to work together, and the result is better than great!

    Hi, I followed your advice in these CX100. I am a pensioner, on a budget, but love, as well as understand, good sound quality. I bought a par, secondhanded, renovated, as you explained. Wow, how right you are. These Beovox are really good sounding. Incredible for the price, or, I’m just old, and don’t really know anything. But, I think not! Thanks, for making me happy ;-)

    I heard this review of Beovox CX100 and found it to be very convincing. In fact, so much that I went on the hunt, found some that had the explained foam rot issue, cheap. I bough them and had them fix (not so cheap), and now I am very very very happy, with one on each side of my big monitor on the wall using them with my computer, USB DAC sound card and a Class-D amp.
    The sound is unbelievably good, so much that I am maybe going to move them to the living room.
    Thank you, Kelvin, you are great.

    I've recently refoamed my CX100s and totally agree with your review playing through a B&O Beocenter 9000. I think the hard to place sensation of the speakers comes from the "woofers" not being aligned with each other. As you say they are very focussed on the vocal spectrum which has it benefits, not disturbing other rooms or neighbours with punchy bass for example. They are fundamentally not suited to rock music, it just doesn't sound right and that is quite a shortcoming. Of the tracks I've played on my CX100s, Hymn To The Fallen from the Saving Private Ryan soundtrack showcases the CX100s to their best ability. Time has moved on B&O's later active speakers, and later again with the acoustic lenses are fundamentally better balanced for different types of music.

    • @stereoreviewx

    Great review! I watched your video a few times after seeing a pair of these for sale. Your video convinced me that it would be a great purchase. I inherited a clean pair of Beovox 2600 speakers a few years ago. Amazing sound, and looking forward to refoaming these CX-100's. One question, the mounting bracket looks a little crazy, how does it mount to the speaker so I can eventually grab a pair of brackets so I can mount them on the wall? Thanks again!

    I've had a pair for a good while now. Wall mounted with the specific brackets you can get. I have them either side on my iMac screen as monitors in a home studio. They point past my ears but sound better slightly off axis. I also have the Cona sub and that works a treat. I should get a pair of these but I dont have the room! I use them with an old Linn power amp or a pair of bridged smaller Amcrom power amp. Be a snob if you want and leave it to us to enjoy. B&O have the money and facilities to develop good speaker. (I also use Linn Isobariks, Epos ES14s and a few more.....including Philips MFBs)

    I have a pair of CX100 in white - matched to a Beocenter 9000. The four foams where £6.64, with £1.75 for the contact cement. There are a number of UA-cam videos showing you how to fit the foams. Some on sale have been re-spayed, others have a new vinyl covering. Going rate £100-375.
    The CX100 and CX50 can be updated to having a built in streamer with wi-fi and Bluetooth built in using a Raspberry Pi (4B £70) and a Beocreate 4 channel amplifier (£139 ) {all in with fittings and cables under £270}. The CX50 (only one bass cone) can be wired up in stereo with the second speaker only needing an XLR socket fitted. The CL100 has both woofer output used and one tweeter. The software comes with a configuration for both CX50 and CX100. The quality is far higher than a modern wireless/Bluetooth speaker for much more than this outlay.
    A wireless/Bluetooth input and a power amplifier of 40-60Watts works as well; streaming from a mobile phone; something like the Nobsound between £50-100.

    You could make some brackets out of three quarters of an inch of plywood two holes drilled near the top one at the bottom in a triangle, a carriage bolt and nut recessed at the back with a big washer, and then stick a mouse mat on the back with the non foam side against the wall they're not that heavy how much does one weight? what size is the Keyhole hole size knowing what carriage Bolt to use. I would have thought the driver's would be seas they generally used to use seas drivers. Did you replace the foam with foam foam is better than rubber it's less mass in total on the driver.
    You should try DSP them we'll get your bass, something like rew what is free or dirac live or Mini DSP, ideally having joined terminals on the back would be good these speakers have fantastic potential I will have to try and get a pair let me know if you see any cheap
    If you measured the EQ of the LS5 in REW you can reproduce this in the the bang and Olufsen and give you the same signature as the LS5 and probably be better
    Go with the songs it is different people can have a great understanding I think knowing the songs what you're saying

      Hi Bjorn yeah I’m glad you like the speakers they have got some great qualities amplifier wise I can’t say I have a big obvious choice
      In the vintage world I’m such a fan of early Sansui
      I mean I don’t think there is a quality you need to look for in the amplifier to counteract any problems with those speakers so that it just needs to be a good amp
      For modern amps you won’t go wrong with naim .

    Hi, Just re-foamed some CX100. The HF are Belgian and the cones Japanese I believe (Minebea maybe). Almost identical apart from one has a vented pole piece and the other not and wired differently in crossover. So I guessed they are Mid and Bass. Soundwise I concur with the vocals and upper/mid clarity. Heard stuff unheard. Bass ahem but tuneful. Tweeter diffraction grating a bit weird moving my head side to side. Refoaming I decided to use shims and made a bit of a pigs ear cutting out dust caps but they are defo well centered. I had done bigger Vifa drivers without shims and felt meh if I pressed one side of the cone it may scuff a bit and the other side not. The glue on the B&O is awful. Got some CX75 to do next.

    Hello! Great review thanks! I purchased first BO C40 which I found really nice and bright. Then I was looking at the CX100 thinking that they would be a better version of the C 40, perhaps with more base. However, They haven't delivered int he way that I imagined. I get better sound out of them at higher volume I think? Foams seem to be be OK all round but maybe they are degraded? I was just wondering if you had any insight into this perhaps?

    • @stereoreviewx
      @stereoreviewx  3 роки тому

      Okay well I’ll have a go from a distance.
      Have you checked the tweeters are working you could do a comparison C 100 and see 40s turn the base down turn the treble up .
      So you’re hearing mostly the tweeter and are they sounding the same as each other or pretty similar
      That’s one possibility.
      The other thing I’m thinking is positioning if you say we are close to those small speakers and then close to the bigger ones I mean it might be you need to be further away from the bigger ones.
      Or even you’re so used to a bright sound the big ones seemed comparatively dull.
      Good luck cheers K

    Nope they did this the right way round! Think about it, if plug is pulled out and two conductors are exposed and touch metal - you get a short. Luckily B&O amps have good protection but depending on the model you may have an internal fuse blow.

    Interesting. Which do you prefer the cx100 or the older 3700 with the 8" bass unit?

    My CX50 have a very pronounced harsh sharp treble..Kinda weird. Might try a pair of CX100..

      Might just be too small to make decent bass

    Hi fi people poo poo B&o too much, they don’t understand them. The older stuff has a really nice sound. Yes maybe not up to the “I’ve spent 10k on speaker wires” brigade but a very nice easy to listen to sound that’s far better than most. And it looks beautiful. I think it gets downplayed because it’s not an ugly box with tonnes of cables. Can you get better, probably. Can you get prettier, no.

      Yes there is a snobbery from hi-fi people against bang and all of a sudden generally speaking some of it goes quite cheap fortunately

    I've managed to do a refoam but the bass driver sounds blown. Could I disconnect the bass driver and safely run it with just the tweeter and mid range driver? Any suggestions?

    • @stereoreviewx
      @stereoreviewx  3 роки тому

      I am not sure that is safe it depends how it’s wired I mean it probably is but you just won’t have any bass

      There are two possible reasons why your speaker sound blown.
      1. It came with a warped voice coil before you refoamed it, scratching the magnet. Could suggest overheating at some time by feeding to much power into the speaker. Remedy is to find a replacement speaker
      2. The refoam job was not successful, the speaker cone not centered good enough when appliying the new foam= Voice coil is scraping the magnet and produces a "blown" sound. Its fixable because its only a matter of centering i again. Nothing is broken per se.
      I would try to remove the old (new) foam and try again. or let an experinced tech do the job. If it turns out the same there ara speaker replacements if you look around

    Why nobody cares about rubbing the boxes on the table in all directions? Doesn't this scratch a little each time the bottom of the speaker? The box must be lifted each time, not twisted on a table..!!!. I have a very expensive Italian violin from 1754 that is in perfect shape and worth $0.8 million !!! That was always lifted...

      Are you sure that’s a metal dome tweeter

    • @SheepyYeen
      @SheepyYeen 2 роки тому

      It’s not even a metal dome driver lol, and the sound is good. Obviously different from a $20.000 per speaker set but thats not the point. Take ANY passive speaker with the same size and these will outperform. They are clear and bright in vocals and create a good ‘live’ experience. Not perfect by any means but a lot of people enjoy these.
