@@Juandomngz do you know where can I find about what she said of cambridge? I think it's very important to know about this type of discrimination in a place where people is supposed to be educated.
Lenho I’m not sure you know the definition of internalised racism - it’s about self hate within yourself and your own race. For example someone who struggles with internalised racism might distance themselves from their culture and distance themselves from other people of their racial/ethnic group. They also might slander or not want to date or event be friends with someone of their race/ethnicity because of internalised racism
as a fellow east asian girl raised in the uk, so much of this hit home. the desire to 'belong' while simultaneously pushing away your roots in embarrassment... thank you for sharing your experiences with us, rina! you are such a treasure and i wish you the best of luck in all of your endeavours. ♡
I really identify with her. I’m japanese and I moved to the uk when I was 5, when I needed school lunches my mum would make me japanese food and I’d see people with crisps and normal cheese sandwiches and that was all I’d want because everyone would look at my lunch weird and say omg is that sushi when it wasn’t or whatever. It’s really empowering seeing this kinda stuff and I’m really happy, thank you so much.
i literally discovered rina because of this interview 5 years ago and i clicked with her and her music instantly. it's crazy how far she's come ever since and craziest part is that i was able to witness the rise of her success in real time. love her sm
I literally just watched 3 videos of her and this one and I am shook. I love her, I'm gonna follow and check everything she's into CAUSE WE NEED SMART TALENTED ARTISTS LIKE RINA TO THRIIIIVE
Watching this now that you have your debut album out. I'm honored to witness your growth as an artist ever since Sleeping In Waking. You've started your discography each with a strong set of songs, and I hope that carries on in the future. Thank you, Rina! All the best in your career! 💖✨💖 Love, A Pixel from the Philippines 🇵🇭
Thank u リナ and I-D, u opened my thoughts out a bit. I’m a half Japanese living in the UK and for a long time I’ve wanted to be fully white, British girl with a Caucasian boyfriend and only speak English... now, thanks to the internet and me visiting back to Japan, I want to be the opposite of who I wanted to be. I now want an Asian boyfriend learn to read and write in Japanese etc etc. This video’s really opened me up to realise that I’m not alone in this matter of subject and that I can enforce both my cultures into one unique one.
aaah thank you i-d. just want to say that this was the reason why i became a fan of rina lmao im so glad i clicked on this 10 months ago stream cherry on itunes/spotify !!!
Her story about not eating the lunch her mom made her because everyone at school was eating white bread and you wanted to fit in, SO RELATABLE! And looking back on it now the food my mom packed was probably 100x more delicious than those sandwiches LOL Rina is such an amazing musician but I love her because of these stories and how honest she is.
I just discovered her music today. I am digging the cute r&b pop music she has going on. Wonderful interview of cultural identity and expressing herself.
Holy shit, I know exactly where your coming from with the bentos because I'm half Japanese. However I now miss my moms bentos and would take a bento over a ham and cheese any day😂. Nice accent btw
OMG THE LAST SONG IM GONNA GO GIVE IT A LISTEN RN I'm not Asian but I relate to her so much already and I love her style and aesthetic so I hope I just found my new fave!!!!! 💕
This made me sorta emotional. I'm glad to get to understand a bit of your experience as a British East Asian. I had some similar things as a mixed race black and white kid growing up in the isolated British countryside, so I can empathise in some ways but it's different and great to hear. I really felt that geisha thing in my heart god that's shit.
I didn't think it was possible to fall completely in love with a person and their music all at once, but I am hooked!!! Rina, we were both brought up in an environment that forced us to look at our Japanese culture with shame, but it's time to reclaim our identity and be proud of who we are and where we come from.
and she's a cambridge graduate. ugh i wish i was her
She can't be more perfect wtf
Sammmme lol
She said she had a horrible time at Cambridge, if you are not white or rich or white and rich, they pretend you don't exist.
She’s taking an online course with Oxford too now. Like bitch is in the UK Ivy League. A genius.
@@Juandomngz do you know where can I find about what she said of cambridge? I think it's very important to know about this type of discrimination in a place where people is supposed to be educated.
Really like her songs. Didn't realise that was her accent.
Groden really? I find it to show through in her ep singing
her story about her packed lunches for school is SO REAL
Kelly Nguyen a roast beef with lto, mayo and horseradish would be an excellent packed lunch
Yoooo that Asian lunch thing really struck a chord
VII the joke is on the rest of us now, people pay through the nose now for Asian lunches!! hehe
They also did a thing about that on Fresh off the boat. I can completely relate, although i'm half-Asian.
VII same and I'm african
same... people would make fun of me and my friends in elementary school for bringing "stinky" food
Didn't realize I was suppressing that memory.
She's so cool, love how she talked about internalised racism and her roots!!!
Tara Chandra ❤❤
Tara Chandra no such thing as internalised racism
INTERNALIZED OPPRESSION
So she is a model right? And she got one job that was probably a bit insensitive so now that means There is internalized racisim in the uk? K.

Sana Iwao isn't it funny how now bringing Sushi to lunch is considered cool?
Atleast all the hipster girls in my school thought that,
@@anau7449 IKR wanting that is bougie now, people are like 'lets go for sushi' and it's considered high class now
i cant believe some people call a sandwich a lunch. in my country a lunch is a whole ass meal
@@loretohidalgo973 some people can only afford a sandwich for lunch haha
@@Mikamichae No, it's a cultural thing. My country is poor and a lunch is a full meal

i wish immigrants didn't feel like they need to suppress their culture, a world with only one way of living would be awful.
I mean you really mean you wish they weren’t pressured into thinking they need to do that, right?
She is so refreshing
