Thanks for this, our new girl's first shed with us ended up in pieces and partly stuck. Once I had the peeling technique figured out it worked great; I had a bit of extra cleanup because she decided the lukewarm water was a great place to defecate too.
Thank you for showing this. My cornsnake is usually good on shedding but this time around it didn't happen so well. She is very zippy when she wants to get out of situations so I was trying to find a way to help her. Thanks again!
so it's pretty much just like us humans, when we have a warm shower all of our dry/dead skin starts to lift and loosen up to make it easier to remove, same with snakes.
We soaked our Python! She's had 2 imperfect sheds but we soaked her for 15 mins and her skin just came right off into my hands as I was hold her and her moving! She loved it! Thank you so much. I love your videos
Helping a snake shed will not hurt them as long as you bathe them beforehand. :) also don't peel their shed in the opposite direction of their scales, that *could* hurt them. also also make sure to go slowly.. lol I would imagine that shedding would feel a lot like peeling wood glue off your skin.. very satisfying..
What about stuck shed in their nose? I have soaked mine multiple times and tried rubbing it off, I don't know what to do at this point he has shed again and it still has yet to come out
luis velez Yeah, I soaked mine for about 15 mins, then I got a firm grip and GENTLY licked the stuck shed, after I did a quick spray and let him dry, after a few days is came off (with some help here and there) what I found out is if you keep it on to long it can cause really bad build ups and could cause your snake to get sick, so I would try to fix this ASAP. Hope I helped
Thank you for this vid. It just helped me with my albino ball python. She was having a hard time shedding and it frightened me because this was her first shed with me. So your info was important to me.
Probably a dumb question, but could i use this for my crested gecko? My brother and i were getting a lid for a 29 inch tank last night and someone brought in 2 crested geckos and laid them on the counter and said he couldn't take care of them anymore so now we got em, dont know anything about how they were taken care of before or age or anything but we have everything else good to go
Hello! I just found your channel not long ago but I have a corn snake that shed his upper half of his body and has been having trouble with the bottom half, he's been trying to get it off now for probably about 3 weeks, he doesn't seem bothered, I have been putting shedding aid on him and massaging it in but I will try doing this tomorrow, hes just so small (about 8 months) so it's even hard to get a good grip on the dried skin because he's so small, any advice? Thank you!
If your having problems with eye caps the way I learned to do it from a breeder is wrap scotch tape around your fingers sticky side out and lightly touch the eye caps and if they are ready they will stick to the tape and come right off
@@jeremiebutokok7591 (im not experienced dont take this like im a professional) im guessing its like removing contacts, because the shed isnt part of the snake? So i dont think it would be harmful, unless you were to scratch or be too forceful with the snakes actual eyes
You are fantastic! I just recently moved to a much drier climate and my snakes shed was awful. This worked perfectly for me. Honestly kind of a zen process!
I know this is an old video, but I got a 3mo male BP, who was sold to me a day before he went in shed. (I didn’t know) He’s about half way there, but still about half stuck. Would this work? I don’t know if he trusts me enough to do this, although he’s still ok with being handled. Pls help!
my ball python had a shed last night but it did not go so well as she has some stuck shed on her head but the eye caps came off and also there is some stuck on the underside. should i give her a bath?
I recently noticed my snake has some dead skin stuck to the very very tip of his tail. It looks like it might be quite old and the result of quite a few sheds because it's completely white but it's so small I only recently noticed it. What do you think I should do?
my albino ball python started her shed I soaked her and it helped but her head still has skin on it should I soak her again to get it off and is there a technique that would be best to help her shed the skin on her head...and awesome videos
my ball python is currently stuck in shed. I used this method to help him out but the skin on his head and "neck" are still there because it wouldn't come off easily. I'm going to see if he can get it off himself but if not I might try this again? I'm not sure what I should do.
Help! I've had my royal for about a month now. He was covered in mites when i got him so we got rid of those but he hasn't eaten in 3 weeks (he is only 5 months old) and has started loosing weight already 😔 he has been showing signs of sheading for the last two weeks but it is just not coming off! His eyes are opaque but the shed hasn't even started to come off his nose. Help! I've been bathing him to help him but it is not working. Is there anyway you know of to get the process started?
that really helped thanks!! but I have one problem I've just bought a baby ball python and when I got her she still had one eye cap on and after a soak it didn't come off neither did the shed on the head and neck.. whenever I try to pick it off it's like she goes into a defense mode and I don't want to get bit! PLEASE HELP!! what should I do??
If they didn't come off with the shed, you'll have to help them out, it can damage their eyes if they're left on during the next shed. You can use a damp paper towel or cloth and carefully try to rub the caps off
My snake has been shedding fine for a long time now and for the last two sheds he has shed in pieces. I would think the humidity is higher than the winter and it is. Is it sick or what? I even sprayed it down that morning but could not spray again because I was at places.
GoHerping Hello again :) I used your video to help my baby Ball python and it worked wonderfully. He is now happy and colourful. It was his third shed and for the first time he got a stuck shed and I was worried but your video has really cleaned things up and helped me more with my baby
I need some help! My ball python is having a terrible shed, I managed to get most of it off her body, but her head is the issue. She doesn't like me to touch her head, so I can't really rub it to get it loose like I would other places. She has gotten her eye caps out and all, it's just a sliver down the middle that leads down the neck. I've tried soaking her already, but that hasn't helped.. Any advice?
Great video Alex but will the snake suffocate or drown themselves without holes in the lid or anything?and I've never seen this technique haha usually when my snakes have stuck shed I just sprayed them down with water but smart stuff man love the video bro😊👍🏼
That's possible, make sure there's airflow in the tub as I said. Your snake won't drown if you only fill the tub with a couple inches of water and leave a lot of air space.
My ball pythons shedding, it has been for the past probably two weeks. I’ve tried bathing her and I’m going to do so again later today but I’ve noticed she smells REALLY bad, I’ve cleaned out her viv and everything in it but I picked her up and it’s her that smells. And I’ve also noticed like brown discolouration on her belly. Please help?
I have a question. I will be posting this in multiple areas so yea. I'm trying to convince my parents to let me get a ball python but they say they can transmit disease and sickness the example they gave was viral spinal meningitis. Is this true? Also your videos are awesome.

I'd say there's virtually zero chance of you getting salmonella or related diseases but let's pretend you were extremely unlucky. Only 1% of salmonella cases are dangerous. Basically, this means you have a higher chance of being killed by your lovable pet dog or cat, and that's probably something you never worried about. If you are still concerned, just wash your hands after handling your snake. I know plenty of reptile keepers, none of which have ever mentioned any worry of diseases from their animals, along with hundreds of breeders who are around thousands of reptiles every day and have also never had any diseases contracted from their animals since most health problems are reptile-only issues (Like mites or snake ticks). (I love your videos, very detailed and informational.) A few weeks ago, I found a green carolina anole with some grayish shed skin stuck on its face. I caught it, being careful not to hurt it or snap its tail, and gently rubbed off the small bit. At the time, I didn't know that even a small amount of pulling could hurt the animal, but my intentions were not bad. Though I am feeling quite guilty, at least it is free now. Hopefully it survived all the cuban brown anoles, not to mention all the chilly nights Orlando's been having... At least the cold is bringing in dead wasps for my collection!
Thanks! You can "prep" your snake for shed by keeping the humidity up a bit higher and having rough objects available like a hide, large rocks, rough bedding, etc. to avoid any stuck shed.
I buy a ball python to a street guy and they been exposed the snake to a heat lamp for all day 24/7 and all this week that i have it its been shedding a lot why?
+Marcos Cortes I'd suggest If a few days pass and the snake can't get the remaining bits off, I'd first try to bring up the humidity as soon as possible, and if a few more days pass, then go ahead and help out
The technique in this video has worked for snake tails with me. Just let it soak, and carefully pull/peel with a wet hand or damp cloth after about 15 minutes.
If the skin is too dry when you peel, it probably will be, but giving a nice soak will remove most, if not all of the discomfort. As of recording this video, I never had to deal with eye caps but I have since making it. Simply taking a damp cloth or paper towel and very carefully rubbing from front to back on the eye got mine to pop off, wasn't too difficult luckily, so that might work if you have that problem!
Baby snakes may shed every few weeks while adults may shed every couple months. It varies snake to snake and species to species based on how fast it grows.
It's mandatory that you remove the eyecaps of the shed. If your ball python shed but it's eyes are still really foggy, the eye caps may still be on there. There's a few videos on UA-cam you can find to remove them. When it comes to the rest of it's shed, your snake will be uncomfortable with the dry shed stuck to it so for the comfort of your snake you should always make sure it removes all the shed after a few days.
GoHerping Okay I don't think I want a snake anymore LOL. That scares me knowing that you have to remove their eye caps! :/ Thanks for the info though, LOL.
I forgot to mention a really important part; it's not only rare for snakes to get stuck in shed but it's very rare for eyecaps to get stuck. These are things that only sometimes happen, so you only need to know them in case of "emergencies" but they can all be fixed :)
My male royal python has eye caps on one side and he doesn't like me touching his head and I have never bathed him before he has never need it and my female rp is ok no eye caps either
You should do everything you can to avoid stuck shed, as your snake should be able to do it all itself because that's safest. Make sure you bring the humidity up a bit and leave objects for the snake to rub the shed off with, then if the shed gets torn or misses matches, you can assist
GoHerping I have a baby corn snake and what if he doesn't get his eye caps of what should I do. I can peel his body shed. I just asked because there delicate. He has shed once and failed so I helped him. But just a little bit stuck when it comes to the head.
Paty Romero thx! I do have good grades so far, but my mom still refuses. I told her/showed a picture online without saying anything and just left of a bearded dragon cause I also want one of em, and she hasn't talked to me saying NO yet. I think I might be in luck. A pet, mostly a reptile, is the only thing that I really want for Christmas along with a bamboo drawing pad to animate and do digital art!
I would suggest making a presentation about the specific type of snake you are getting, not only to persuade and inform your parents, but to make sure that YOU know a lot about the animal, and how to resolve problems that may pop up. Trust me, it isn't that hard if you're interested in that animal. Also, Bearded Dragons are NOT good beginner reptiles. Try a Crested or Leopard Gecko first. Remember, even though setting up beginner reptile cages is relatively cheap, it still costs money.

The technique in this video has worked for snake tails with me. Just let it soak, and carefully pull/peel with a wet hand or damp cloth after about 15 minutes.
You should put a large object in the water with him. They feel less stressed if they can wrap around something in the water.
Is it uncomfortable for the snake? And with the eye caps, can you personally remove it?
If the skin is too dry when you peel, it probably will be, but giving a nice soak will remove most, if not all of the discomfort. As of recording this video, I never had to deal with eye caps but I have since making it. Simply taking a damp cloth or paper towel and very carefully rubbing from front to back on the eye got mine to pop off, wasn't too difficult luckily, so that might work if you have that problem!

They are the only things I want
I would suggest making a presentation about the specific type of snake you are getting, not only to persuade and inform your parents, but to make sure that YOU know a lot about the animal, and how to resolve problems that may pop up. Trust me, it isn't that hard if you're interested in that animal. Also, Bearded Dragons are NOT good beginner reptiles. Try a Crested or Leopard Gecko first. Remember, even though setting up beginner reptile cages is relatively cheap, it still costs money.
Do you sell your reptiles.
Not right now, maybe I'll breed some in the future someday!
I just barely removed my snakes retained eye cap and I am sooooo happy
I do the same thing just hold him with both hands while he slithers forward. Kinda like if you take your sox off
thanks to your videos i helped my ball Python to shed her skin :D , thanks so much :D
