The FINAL VERDICT On Obsidian's Grounded...

- Опубліковано 27 вер 2022
- Xbox released a game today! While their holiday window was supposed to be stuffed with the likes of Redfall and Starfield, Obsidian has stepped up to the plate in their absence. This year they will be delivering two exclusives to Xbox and their first outing here is not one you should sleep on. While survival isn't my favorite genre, Grounded's sense of finality, strong mechanics, and imaginative world have hooked me deep!

Almost nothing compares to playing Grounded with my kids....wouldn't trade the experience for anything
Bwhaahhaaaa! I see what you did there!
Lol I'm jealous that does sound fun
Been having a blast playing it with my niece. I personally love what both Grounded and Valheim have brought to the survival genre, great settings and so fun in coop
Hey Bro, how old should kids be to play it? I guess like... 10 years? And each one will need its own PC right? Cant wait to do that too :D
@@juliang.4853 All my kids' ages range from 4-16.....they all have Series s and we play in our game room and there's
Narrative driven survival is great. A purposeful experience.
I like the game because it reminds me of Honey, I shrunk the kids, yet has its own unique story and aesthetics. I love that it takes place in the early 90's / late 80's era so there's plenty of pop culture references. But it also takes itself seriously as a survival game. It's one of those games where once you do the initial story plot, you can set out and do literally anything you want.
It basically did steal Honey, I shrunk the kids. Not in a horrible way though, when you think of how much shit is copied in the media intergalactic wars, zombies, cop movies, etc. "shrunk kids" is something that hasn't really been copied before and forgotten about, so I think of it more of a good use of a lost idea rather than a steal. Regardless it's obvious the idea had to of come from that movie.
I rewatched the movie at some point after playing the game and there's so many similarities.
I remember when I was a kid and watch honey we shrunk ourselves (Grandma bought the sequel first lol) and thinking it be cool to play a game where your stuck that size and until now closest game we had was stuart little 2 lol love to see a sequel or big dlc fir inside the house
My buddy and I are seriously loving Grounded. It surprised me because I didn't play the beta. It also isn't a game I would normally play. But it looks great and plays great.
Im surprised it took so long for a studio to really dive into the "Honey I Shrunk the Kids" vibe for a game. They nailed it.
I never thought this would work personally but I'm glad Obsidian went along with this and it seems so far everyone fairly likes/enjoys it!
GamePass heavily helped Grounded. It shows just how good the service is.
So not every good then? lol
@@sumireravenclaw8034 No, "very good".
@@sumireravenclaw8034 salt 🧂🤣
Grounded is my favorite video game of all time tbh and I hope that they make expansions for this awesome game
payed comment💀
They will probably do updates like Minecraft does not dlc
It really is a great game! From the atmosphere to music to spiders, it's such a beautiful game! I've spent so many hours playing! Cheers ✌️
@@interactual Have you played it?
I would love an update set inside the house
Hey, Matty, good review! In reguards to the “shared world” feature: It is not very common at all unless you want to pay money to a third party to host your own dedicated server. Grounded is giga chad for including this feature as part of the base game!
I last played Grounded about a year ago and can't wait to jump back in on the final product this weekend.
I played Grounded for the first time yesterday and got sucked in for several hours. Then played some today as well and I'm fully in it now. I'm not really into survival games so the fact this game was able to hook me like it has is a testament to how well this game is made. I honestly adore the world they have created. I've only played solo so far so I imagine with a few friends my enjoyment will only grow.
It’s a blast playing with a friend. My buddy and I couldn’t put our controllers down last night haha he helped me out a bunch getting resources and helping me build a pretty sweet base! Gonna join his game later today to help him out.
This game gives me strong “Honey, I shrunk the kids” vibes.. yeah I just aged myself lol. Looks like a lotta fun I’m gonna have to check it out
Subnautica, Matty. Subnautica. It has a story with an ending, and it's a brilliant game.
IMO this is exactly how an EA title should release. the devs respected player time and feedback across the board, even down to not charging the full release price for the EA unfinished game. what a gem in the sea of EA titles that end up being nothing more than a flash in the pan
You do realize EA has no ties to obsidian whatsoever right? Obsidian is an Xbox games first party studio. EA isn't a part of this game at all.
@@thejimmichanga2913 EA is an abbreviation for early access, but hey I appreciate you being rude instead of asking for clarification. Hope you're enjoying the game 🎮
@@josephdurham4950 I don't see what's rude about what I said at all.
@@thejimmichanga2913 I'll admit "rude" prob isnt the best phrasing, maybe arrogant or condescending idk.
Regardless I'm baffled at how you could think anyone could think electronic arts has anything to do with this game, coupled with the fact that you even decided to jump in the comments to explain that to me, all without once even thinking YOU might be the one not understanding, and might benefit form taking a sec to think of the context.
@@josephdurham4950 or you're just too soft maybe? I literally made that comment with 0 Ill intent, yet here you are thinking I'm out to be malicious. I genuinely thought that you had the impression EA was making it. Not everyone has their ear to the ground is knows who makes what, I just was trying to point out that obsidian was an Xbox studio, nothing more or less.
Grounded 1.0 convinced me to start my pc game pass again and one detail I really love is the 90s nostalgia littered all around. I spent hours base building and farming bugs, but the best part for me was discovering the landmarks with retro references everywhere. Another great world from obsidian
I love the creativity of the weapons. If you get to the tier 3 weapons they’re all really cool designs and so many for end game messing around
Been playing since the preview. Me and the wife just just started the 1.0 launch and it's like a day and night experience. It's definitely FUN!
The endless spider spawning drove us crazy during beginning stages of early access and it sucks that it’s still an issue but other than that this game was very addictive and I don’t like survival games much
Played this in early access a year ago and thought it was ok. Glad to watch your review which brought me back and wow has the game improved! Played it with my brother all evening. Great game!
Downloaded the game on PC game pass after seeing this video! I’ve never been big into survival games but valheim got me hooked and this brings up nostalgia vibes with Honey I Shrunk the Kids. Keep up the awesome work Matty!! Cheers
the way they evolved the combat the movement got me for sure, since day 1 you would know how different it is from before, the jump is way better now and the difference in each weapon swing the revamping of upgrades aswell.
I just started it today solo. Really neat so far and knowing there is a story it has me wanting to learn and move forward.
Fighting bugs in Grounded is another dig at Bethesda.
As someone who bought Grounded the day it hit early access..... Yes, a it's must buy for fans of the genre
Personally I'm a huge fan of the more co-op/solo focused survival games like Subnautica or The Forest (Sub is still my favourite survival game to date). Grounded absolutely nails those aspects of co op survival. Even then the setting alone is enough to set it apart.
Haven’t played the game, but did want to point out that you mentioned The Forest under games that aren’t story driven. The Forest did have a story, though a not very memorable one in my opinion. The Forest had a lot of potential for a truly incredible story but unfortunately fell short by a bit. Though I will say that the gameplay made up for it 200% and I had a lot of good memories with my friends.
Great game! Didn't know how small the dev team was though! Even more respect 🙏 👏
The spider story at 9:30 gave me a chuckle bc that's exactly how I handled the big spiders in my early access game. Managed to get all but the doubled groups sealed in their own dens, which was very satisfying to accomplish in itself and made on foot travel far less nerve-wracking. 😆
Me and my mate tried that under the great oak tree but they glitched through the grass walls 😢
Ive never played a survival game but me and my buds are loving this. Very fun.
This game is so dope ! I keep thinking about expansion’s in other yards or in a house or apartment!
yea and you fight Roches and rat indoors.😂😂
Expansions could be wild. not sure about a whole house, would be too big and too much open space
Personally I love the idea of an expansion based around an abandoned car :D
A playground would be interesting expansion.
I've been playing this game since it came to early access. Been loving watching it grow. I'm quite fond of the Honey I Shrunk the Kids vibes.
"I wasn't expecting to like it but love it" is the best way to describe this game. I only tried it because I love Obsidian and wow it's a great game. I went to be thinking about my next moves. So yeah it's not Elden Ring but I get that same feeling of needing to jump back in asap. I also switched to Mild cuz this game is harder than I thought. You also get this masterful world design. You have no mini map and your quest is just to go explore the oak tree, which is looming over you constantly in the distance as you start the game. Just great great game and world design. The step out moment is also top notch! 8.5/10 for me.
There's nothing as satisfying as tomahawking a an aphid
Spent a good hundred hours on this month's back. Definitely going to hop on this weekend and probably start from scratch.
Honestly i don't no what it is but Grounded really hits 'that spot' for me! I think i'm in love with the honey i shrunk the kids miniture idea, and everything i see in the game i always seem to just be like, "woah" almost all the time. Mafia 2 and Dying Light 1 will always be my favourite games but i think has to be a solid 3rd for me
I hope you’re doing well buddy
I always liked the idea of survival games but could never really get into any other games in the genre. Tried Grounded and now I'm obsessed and thinking about it at work. I really love the game so much because it is a bunch of fun.
I have been playing since day one of preview and i cant get enough of this game I personally like survival games but this was absolutely my favorite survival game ever
Not my type of game but i love that is doing well because Obsidian is a phenomenal dev studio.
Cant wait for Avowed!
love your videos - seems fun
played Grounded in early access and had a ton of fun. Now that its out in its full release im going to try to convince my friends to come along on the jouney through the backyard with me haha
Don't forget to buy a grounded burgle t shirt, awesome game. Been playing it from day one early release, about 200 an something days on my save file.
Yeah this game is sooo much fun. I’ll always remember my first time with a spider in this game.. stuff of nightmares
Grounded is a top tier game. They listen 100% to there fans, and there are no game breaking glitches, it's perfect for what it is and I love every second I've put into grounded, it's even hard you have to put thought into it
Reminds me of "Micro", the Michael Crichton book (basically Jurassic Park with bugs)
Just downloaded it and going to play it with my brother later on this week.
I’ve been playing for around a year now, 1.0 delivered on all aspects for me except new bug variety, but that can be fixed in the future. Obsidian already said they want to add more content after 1.0. I would gladly pay 20-30 dollars a year for a huge expansion. Love that this game is getting the love and attention it deserves.
The RPG mechanics makes this a very unique Survival game
audio was so loud at the start on my end -_- still a great video!!
Game is great been playing solo since the haze update this last update is so big almost the size of when they first started the game
You are the best bro. Love your videos
I’d like to see you try nakara bladepoint I finally gave it a shot after hearing cog mention it a few times glad I did
My friends recommended this last night and I admit….i hate survival games .
I talked so much shit about how dumb it looked, next thing ya know I’m spending hours searching for pebbles , rope to make axes , and running for my life from fighter ants attacking my base . I absolutely am enjoying this game and it shockingly reminds me a lot of Minecraft/pikmin
My most played Xbox game is Conan Exiles. I think a lot of people dismiss it, but playing it offline as a single player survival RPG is pretty awesome.
Been playing since day 1 of early access. Haven’t stopped playing since. 1.0 release did not disappoint at all
I played the beta for a bit and really enjoyed the game! However, there are so many great games out now and I just don't have time to play it now that it has gone gold.
Holy shit i LOVE grounded, ive been playing literally since day one! Definitely a crazy fun game. Who else has built massive sky bridges to avoid the constant spider wars?
I thought I was the only one that went ham with sky bridges. 😂
@@BOSSSHAWN lmaoo, if youre on xbox hop in my world i can use experienced builders LMAO
This game is an absolute no brainer blast to play. I liked it far more than I thought i would and playing with friends and family makes it so much better. Can't wait to see more games like this!
Honestly I was really hoping The Initiative was going to make a more creative fun, experimental game instead of "Perfect Dark"
Spent like 300+ hrs on this thing during preview, but it's been a year since. Doing 1.0 now and this game is still straight 🔥🔥❤🔥❤🔥...
I had this one since the very start of early access, played it for awhile and gave up on it, . May have to jump back into this 😘
I'm also like you Matty practical basis is what I aim I can make pretty bases I just don't fine them useful
I think your soda can base is cool! 😂
To be fair, The Forest had an ending and story. It's my #1 coop survival game for the AI and twist at the end.
It's so good so far I'm really liking it and I didn't think of that can idea I might use that
Might check this out I really need to use my series S more
So this is basically honey I shrunk the kids as a video game... EPIC
The only game my friends and I actually enjoy playing right now.
Hey matty keep doing your skits...your a funny dude.....gives me angry joe vibes....watching from uk ....good content....keep pushing bro
I like more now than I did in January
Mr Matty is the man 🤙 he’s carrying the video games industry on his back
Sorry Matt, I’d have to play this in “Spider-free mode,” which I hear is a real thing for us arachnophobes. The ice spiders in Skyrim haunt me to this day 😳
Grounded is one of my all time favorite games, to play alone (though bosses are tough) or with friends or my partner. I personaly have always had a hard, distain filled feeling towards most survival games. Grounded changed all that, between its options and acessability controls i can enjoy a enviroment that feels refreshing, fun and creative in such a different direction, premis and world. The progression feels good, like you arnt hindered but if you want to sprint for the end game that its gonna be a challange if you havnt out in all the time and effort to get there organicly. I love the creature, base, and crafting design that all feel fairely unique in their presentations, just like the game does overall. Ultimutly, i love that its a game that is friendly enough for older, younger, or seasoned gamers to enjoy whenever they want, together.
Penitent looks interesting but not sure it’s what I’m looking for, grounded is fun for sure but I’m really waiting on avowed from them. I’m hoping obsidian keeps up all of this though couple AAA games a few AA games and a few short games glad Xbox lets them do their thing.
Good to hear good news about this game...
Matty, you gotta get to Pillars/Deadfire and Tyranny, already. You're been sleeping on these gems (even by your own admittance)!
Both Pillars games are on all the consoles, no excuses!
Love your work, keep truckin'.
last time i played Grounded was at its release & i played for about 100 hours, was just wondering if its worth coming back now that its full release has arrived.. i guess it is!!
Creative !! that’s hunny I shrunk the kids lol
started playing 3 days ago it's super fun
As an aracnaphobe, the spiders in this game scared the crap out of me when I played it when it first came out on early access.
There is an accessibility feature for aracnaphobes just so ya know in case you want to jump back into this
I’d play it but the fact it’s not couch co op should be a crime. It’s perfectly set up for it. I hate that less games do that nowadays. I can’t set down and play games with my son. We’re stuck playing murder games like borderlands. I’d play this for countless hours if I could play with my son
Honey, I Shrunk the Kids mod! NOW! SOMEONE MAKE IT!
Hey. I'm proud of my soda can base to hah
If you like survival games Grounded is a must try. If you can then obviously play with some friends and you’ll have a blast
I think you do hit the bar when saying "This is what we should be expecting form Xbox". I'm a hardcore Sony fan, always will be, my first console was a PS1, so it's just how it is. However that doesn't mean I don't like Xbox also having good things. During Xbox 360 and PS3 era I felt like there was actually a battle of good exclusives on either side.
I loved playing many Sony exclusives, but I also loved Halo 3 and Fable. Grounded is a game that feels like Halo or Fable. A great game that feels unique, it's a perfect blend of survival and RPG gameplay wise and the setting is something every 90s kid could only dream of. They basically stole "Honey I Shrunk the Kids" and made it a game which I think was super clever. One of the best things about the game is the audio, I would put it in top 3 best audio of any game I ever played. The music is immersive and draws you into the shrunken scientific experience.
Overall if we see more games that are like this I would be pretty happy. There are infinite possibilities that could be done with the world of grounded, bugs are the most diverse species on the planet.
Love this game! They know what works and accepts it rather than force in something to stand out, focus on polish and atmosphere, and leave just enough space for creativity. There's no "right" way to play it,
My big question is updates. The story has a beginning, a middle, and an end but the game is suppossed to get content for a few years. I haven't beat the game yet but if the game has a satisfying ending then I would probably put it down and most things I have read says it has a definitive ending
It has two endings.
0:30 got interesting fast
Have 1000 hours into grounded so my opinion may be biased but this game is so fucking cool
Carefully with that late gaming Matty, it destroys your health bro ;)
can we get some series x deathloop opinion. I liked it for about 10 hours and then got bored. Mostly just because I had to run the same loop over and over again to figure out my guns, and then what powers I wanted and then which powers worked best where and then grinding for residuum and then I apparently figured out the best routes first and then it makes the best route for killing an enemy a non option.
Great video bro! Now get some sleep lol
I have been hooked on Grounded. The focus on gameplay is a nice break from having NPC conversations that carry on forever in Obsidian’s other games.
So there aren’t any npcs or story?
I don't play survival building games but I actually like grounded that's saying something
Soooooo Mr. Matty just said, at about three minutes in, about thirty seconds after my first comment, that Grounded is not just a check list. fuck I have to start watching videos before I give my two cents
I wonder how the show will be
A content packed game that has few bugs which are easy to fix particularly disconnection issues and camera angle problems. Otherwise it's solid fun and more than a bargain. Cannot recommend it enough
I wonder what Matty is playing on. I have a One X. I’ve put quite a few hours into this game in the past 2 or 3 months, and I’ve never experienced any bugs (no pun intended, you know the kind I mean), glitches, or performance issues. Weird.
Love grounded I bought when I first saw it. mMy son and I play it a lot
Obsidian are a A tier and creative bunch over there 👏
I was honestly expecting better performance on the series X. Even with VRR… it was very dippy and stutters at times.
