Really interesting hearing this expert giving the Chinese perspective. I find it especially interesting that China has stuck to an anti-imperialism stance in Korea.

Even in ancient times when China was the regional power, smaller neighbors were left to maintain their own national and cultural identities, although they were vassal states and had to pay tribute, etc. China did not forcefully occupy her neighbors and install Chinese soldiers in other people's lands, as the United States loves to do all over the globe. It would have been costly, and the occupied people would have rebelled anyway, which would have eventually weakened the Empire. China is very old and very smart, PLUS there are many, many, many Chinese people, and therefore it is best for the U.S. not to invade NK and end up at China's doorstep.

They are Stalinist's and love to do deals with Imperialism on the basis of Stalin's policy of peacefull co-existence with Capital. They have barred North Koreas Mineral exports.
But North Korea borders both China and Russia,if they do not defend their N Korean frontier ,then who's next? Stalinist's love losing! Up the Workers of all lands and fight against war!

Can't you at least find an Asian expert?? But an American "expert" on North Korea... ugh!!

    • @jeremychase7416

crownretro Why would an Asian be any more knowledgeable on a country that has been cut off for decades?

    • @crownretro

I've a friend who worked in South Korea, and a lot of residents feel North Koreans are like lost/cut-off brothers & sisters, they aren't as brainwashed to believe the North Koreans are "evil commies" like 99.9% of (North) Americans!!
What country are you from, Jeremy?

North and south want reunification. The US has troops 40,000 in occupation of the south. They are preventing unity!

crownretro I'm in The United States. That doesn't mean I have any less of an understanding of the similarities between NK, SK, and East, West Germany. I don't allow the ruling class to tell me how to view entire populations. I have always viewed people as people.

  • @williampowhida572

To understand North Korea one must read the history of Korean Society from at least 1932 on and one must investigate the cold war conflict between USA imperialism and Soviet imperialism. Personally, I wish that the USA would withdraw from Asia, at least in military terms. We are there only as the result of USA imperialism and the Second World War which American "interests" in Asia helped to foster. American Imperialism has resulted in the current sad state of our democracy at home. Those who live by the sword shall die by the sword.

not in wester neyes, in the west, if you do not bully and push round countries with little or no power and cannot defend themselves, then you are showing yourself to be powerless... when you are inflicted damage, embargoes and manipulating elections, sending armies of mercenaries and prospecting for resources you do not deserve but are willing to kill innocents for... then you are power-full.... we are severely mental deluded here.

I don't like the language these two use regarding the DPRK. "Regime" and talk of executions with no context are very scary, but what are the real reasons behind the execution of the supposedly "Chinese man" in the WPK Politburo? I think it's entirely possible he was executed on political grounds, but they never prove it as being such! And the idea that the CPC's policy of non-interference is just some "Cold War hangover" of some sort is a ridiculous relic of Cold War Brittania and Americana in-and-of-itself! Non-interference in other countries' internal political affairs is a basic tenet of national sovereignty. The only acceptable circumstances to intervene are genocide/apartheid/settler-colonialism, and the DPRK does none of those, much less these bullshit accusations of dictatorial tyranny, prison "camps" and forced labor, etc. Shameful rhetoric for an otherwise excellent journalistic entourage

What is it about camera angles that render the viewer looking up the speakers nose that seems reasonable to videographers? Being talked down to, is the implication. It is off-putting and is a non-verbal statement of arrogance.
