Frequently use that level crossing n Windermere as a back way home from Ballarat to home (near Daylesford) - if I want a nice Saturday drive and take my time and avoid the main roads. There’s a little old general store right next to the level crossing (now a home).
@@driver667 yup the drive back through Learmonth then the back roads to Clunes then backroads to Eganstown and Daylesford. Nice wander and see some lovely old building.
I wonder if it would be feasible to extend the regular commuter line along the old Skipton rail trail to Lucas and possibly beyond to Ballarat's southern suburbs? It probably won't happen before 2050 as things are, but Ballarat only having 2 active stations makes things quite a strain, especially when it comes to car parking.
I've often thought about the cattle yards line (redan). It ran around the suburbs of Ballarat and could be a perfect suburban style extension of the Wendouree service. 👍😀
@@driver667 Oh yeah, that could work too. They could build a Redan station there and use the site of the old cattle yards as parking places, that could serve the Alfredton/Redan/Sebastopol/Delacombe areas.
I’ve thought that as well. Extend it back to Scarsdale. All those areas are booming. It’s incredible the size and number of estates that have sprung up in those areas even in the last 3 years . It won’t be long before it’s almost built up all the way to Haddon. I’ve also thought of a new station at Burembeet (sp) Junction next to the freeway interchange where that big car park is already. It would serve Learmonth, Waurbra, and Cardigan Village (the latter which also has a lot of estates going up.).
@@driver667 I forgot about the Redan line. That would have been the one that ran past Vitclay pipes near the Wendouree station and all the backyards in Alfredton.
Gorgeous open countryside...just sailing along. Very good for the soul, I think.🙂
A nice drive in the country is always a good idea 👍😀

I often like drives that are a little off the main drag. Can be much more interesting and less traffic. 👍😀

It sure is. Glad you enjoy them. 👍😀
Yes there’s 4 Vline trains a day Melbourne to Ararat (weekdays. Weekends are different).
