I hope this fragrance house will always be around and continue to grow and develop. Their entire concept is fantastic. They do the impossible with such laid back charm, making it look easy, which is: push the envelop, create a self-referencing universe unto themselves, take risks whilst AT THE SAME TIME making really wearable, addicting fragrances. I mean, 'O, Unknown' is such an unsung great. It smells blank by design. I have a few of their fragrances and none of them smell remotely alike. Cape Heartache is a bizarre abstract in the best of ways. The synthetic strawberry mixed with the fir and pine reminded me instantly of two rather wonderful memories, all in one delightfully startling olfactory collision: 1. Teen headshops and second hand record stores from the 1990s...that whole era, and 2. The smell of air conditioned shops and convenience stores when I first went to Los Angeles from here in London. THAT SMELL! How on Earth can I be anything BUTprivately revelling in the joy of being alive, in my great good fortune in life, whenever I wear Cape Heartache?! It's not a sophisticated fragrance, I'd agree with that verdict, it's not destined to be a classic. But these 'authors' write cult-classics after all, so they'll always have their fanatical devotees. Fragrances, like music, reminds everybody of different memories. I'm sure the IA guys would be horrified to hear that someone is reminded of 1990s punk record stores, headshops and LA convenience stores when they smell Cape Heartache. But it's WOOOONDERFUL to have something trigger incredibly strange details from my memories in a way that feels almost like a bespoke psychedlic trip, intensely personal. Thanks guys just for embodying the spirit of the niche perfumer and niche perfume lover alike. The world already has Jo Malone and Byredo-- we'll always be in need of Imaginary Authors. Accept no imitations! PS= Imaginary Authors are the precise reason why I DESPISE clone houses and cannot understand why all these goofy, hustling UA-camrs keep recommending them to their ethically rudderless, impressionable audience of pretentious yokels. Is the payment from these despicable companies really that impossibly tempting to these shameful folks?! Why can't they say 'thanks but no thanks'? How can they call themselves lovers of niche-perfumery and supporters of the long suffering creatives? How can they say with a straight face that they're supporters of brand owners who are the ones taking all the financial risks and doing all the creative heavy-lifting, only to then support the filthy parasites who come along and steal from them? Where is the integrity in all these hustlers?! Tsk tsk, for shame. Thank you for giving Josh and Ashod the support and attention they deserve and posting this terrific little video. Thumbs up.
Thank you for your experiences with Imaginary Authors. Indeed, such an original, creative, fun and enjoyable brand, with great fragrances and a great team in Josh and Ashod. We love working with them and retailing Imaginary Authors in Europe, in Amsterdam.
I love this one! It is like a strawberry patch in the forest
