I have to say, his rivalry with John Cena was well-documented. I've seen people say they've never had a bad match, and I tend to agree with them. They both had great matches together, my favorite of which was the WrestleMania qualifier on February 25th in 2013, that match took their statuses to new heights albeit it was on Raw. Punk pulled a piledriver on Cena, and Cena pulled a hurricanrana on Punk. Although Cena got the upper hand, they both were tremendous in that match, I had to tip my hat to both CM Punk and John Cena, it was that good a match and you rarely ever see that these days. And for them to work with one another, respect each other and boost their careers into the stratosphere, I have nothing but huge kudos for that
Cena/Punk had amazing chemistry in their matches, this explains why. Punk knew how to take the Cena formula and play around with it, and make the matches more exciting. I liked how Punk would always counter Cena's 5 moves of doom early in the match, but Cena would still hit them later if Punk was the heel..amazing well put together matches.
Punk’s feud with cena was the feud where John won me over as an all around wrestler. Their match on raw in 2013 is one of the greatest tv matches in wwe history. And now all I wish to see is punk and cena in a room chatting it up. There is so much honor for the business both carry while being seen as total opposites on the surface, the imagination about both of them just talking it up candidly runs wild.
Their matches were boring as fuck. At least Cena knows how to cut a god damn promo without having to break the fourth wall. You people are sick in the head.

At the start of 2023 I played the WWE2K15 showcase mode highlighting their rivalry and it felt like a trip down memory lane ❤

First to comment, John Cena vs CM Punk was a classic matchup cos they both knew each other so well inside and out, both on-screen and offscreen, they worked very well and their matches and promos were always sweet. For those that want to bury Cena first get ur facts straight, remember because of John Cena, CM Punk was blessed and fortunate to not only face John Cena at the main event of money in the bank, but beat him and hold that WWE championship for 434 data nonstop, just like Lesnar, which is pretty impressive for someone like Punk If CM Punk, was never John Cena genuine friend he would never be in the position he is today. Like it or hate it, pure facts.
It becomes not a fact when you say it’s because they were genuine friends. Because that isn’t how it works. The thing about Punk v. Cena that really worked, it was not like Rock and Austin or Hogan and Savage, neither guy wanted to out do, the other, each guy knew their position on the team, and they knew working together would make them both a lot of Cash, Cena's best opponent was Punk. The story also worked because it's the Poster Boy, Bright, Smiling, "Rise Above Hate" everything Vince McMahon looks for in a guy carrying a WWE World Title, against the guy who is his antithesis, the anti hero, who says "I embrace Hate, I love it." I could just tell Punk and Cena are not B.F.F.'s but they have a lot respect for each other.

Plus it was dogshit
The problem with John Cena is never been him, but the way WWE shoved him into people's throat, destroying too many careers of talented guys in the process. To the point that when Cena left, they really stopped making stars and every guy on top right now, doesn't really feel like a big deal compared to part-timers and legends from the past, since they don't get overly protected the same way Rock, Austin, HBK, Hogan, Lesnar, Taker, Cena and Orton got on their way to stardom
@Daddy longstroke4201 Stroke yeah that's why I don't blame him for the Nexus, because when you're wade Barrett and you need six or seven other guys to get you over, that's a recipe for disaster. These two were absolute magic when they were together, from their promos to their matches, you couldnt find one terrible thing about anything they didnt. The one thing that should be a disappointment is that they never had a Wrestlemania match
After ALL the interviews I've heard with Punk, and a few other that are like him (maybe 2-3), and they've all actually done counters to John's moves. Maybe the problem isn't Cena and his 5 (now 6) moves of doom. MAYBE, it's the talent being afraid, and not taking the chances

Excited in a good way for when Cena retires and starts doing candid interviews and podcasts. Bet the man has a LOT of stories to tell.
CM PUNK didnt have a bad match against Cena.
Cena never had a bad match with Punk.
I’m not a cena hater but punk was the far better pure in ring talent.
@@kgot7436 Absolutely! Cena was thankful he didnt have to call the spots. Punks logic, and wrestling ability made for match of the year quality bouts!
except when he botched the AA counter to crash on his ass and the piledriver botch when cena almost died

Their matches were boring as fuck. At least Cena knows how to cut a god damn promo without having to break the fourth wall. You people are sick in the head.
For Meltzer to give a WWE match (or any match that took place outside of Japan, for that matter) five stars means it was an incredible match.
It means nothing because Meltzer opinions means nothing. You waste of oxygen.

According to punk. After a 60 day suspension. They fed exed him his paperwork saying he was fired. On his wedding day. Then took it out on AJ. So no I don't think he would go back. At least not as long as Vince still runs things. And now it looks like Trip won't be running it when that day comes. Seems nick Kahn will.

Cena is incredibly underrated as a performer. This and the match with Umaga were great
I think what hurt him the most other than following the five moves of doom formula(which most superstars are guilty of to an extent) is trying moves he hadn't quite perfected the use of. Like doing dropkicks and hurricanranas and having them come off sloppy or botching them altogether.
@@axebomber2108… other superstars really do the same things, watch a Ric flair match from the last 25 years.

Cena has magical video game powers. Once he hits you with the first shoulder tackle, you're locked in a irreversible move sequence where you lose control of your body and always try to swing at him.

Whether I watch his own interviews or people talking about him elsewhere, he always gains respect. Love you Cena!
CM Punk and John Cena iconic rivals, their rivalry was so memorable, I will never forget the summer of 2011, the epic WWE championship match at Money in the Bank in Chicago is my all time favorite wrestling match, whenever they wrestled they had good matches, brought the best out of each other, they were polar opposites, one was the face of the company, the other was a outspoken rebel.
At the start of 2023 I played the WWE2K15 showcase mode highlighting their rivalry and it felt like a trip down memory lane ❤
Kane and John Cena were two amazing competitors to do choreography with prepping for matches. Always easy, and always willing to compromise at the last second if something goes wrong. Not like dudes such as Ryback or Randy Orton that were either too aggressive or too demanding on certain moves.
Hulk Hogan was always worried about his spot.
I mean from his perspective it makes sense. You dont become the most famous wrestler ever by being nice to everyone.

Punk should've main evented WM29. When Cena vs Rock happened the 2nd time it felt like we were being force fed. If they really wanted Cena vs Rock II so bad then they should've turned Cena heel after he lost to Rock.
No. The reason why the part timers are still in the main event it's because the full timers SUCK.
I see your point but how could they not follow up on their biggest match ever? It had money written all over it
Yes very good point
@@gustavoclarindo101 :yes also very good point
@@MoMo-lr8hg The full timers suck because they are always buried by part timers. It's a vicious cycle. Wrestlemania season is only 3 months, they bring back part timers, then they leave after Mania and the roster loses most of the star power for 8 months.
He is so true to himself and that shows in his work. Punk has always been a stand out wrestler in my childhood and exploring more on him, he shows complete humility and graciousness. This man is the heartbeat of professional wrestling, from 2002 to 2012, to even 2022. He is so true to himself on a personal standpoint that his character as a wrestler isn’t far from it. Besides his character, his craft in the ring describes the adjective of THE BEAT IN THE WORLD.
For me Cena’s rivals go like this: 1) Edge 2)Punk 3) Orton
I would put AJ Styles over Orton. Cena and Orton lost steam when WWE shoehorned Triple H into what should’ve been their match at Mania 24. The less said about their feuds in 2009 and 2013/2014 the better.
@@ericdxfan511 Lost steam? They had great matches in 2009.
@@kingme1931 The only great match was the Iron man one. SummerSlam was ruined by shitty booking, I Quit Match pales in comparison to Cena's match with JBL, and the Hell in a Cell match was watered down.

Kind of a relief that CM Punk and Cena had good chemistry. As a kid, I feel like I didn’t appreciate him as much as I should’ve.
First to comment, John Cena vs CM Punk was a classic matchup cos they both knew each other so well inside and out, both on-screen and offscreen, they worked very well and their matches and promos were always sweet.
For those that want to bury Cena first get ur facts straight, remember because of John Cena, CM Punk was blessed and fortunate to not only face John Cena at the main event of money in the bank, but beat him and hold that WWE championship for 434 data nonstop, just like Lesnar, which is pretty impressive for someone like Punk
If CM Punk, was never John Cena genuine friend he would never be in the position he is today. Like it or hate it, pure facts.
Nicely put
It becomes not a fact when you say it’s because they were genuine friends. Because that isn’t how it works. Sure they may have been chill with each other, but to say them being genuine friends is the only reason is just wrong. You think Vince allowed him to hold it for 434 days because of just one match? No.
Fuck John cena. He’s a horrible character and wrestler

Cena was always the guy punk wanted it but Vince and hhh wasn't having it
I'm glad Punk said "he does 5 moves how do you not know what to do when you wrestle him" and when he brought up the "Cena Comeback" best moments I've heard
It’s always cool to hear how willing and giving Cena is. You wouldn’t have been surprised if he was an ass. But he seems like an awesome person
I’ll never forget the pop when Fire Burns hit at the MOTB match, it was deafening even at home, I envy anyone in that building that experienced it live. Punk was the most well rounded but it’s a shame that HHH wasn’t a fan. Imagine if HHH believed in pushing Punk to the moon
I think u mean vince triple h had and still has no say in main roster creative decisions
John Cena vs CM Punk is a rivalry that always got a reaction. There both the greatest of the recent era
I remember watching ECW when Punk had his first match on there. Crazy to see how far he's come, loved his style the first time he walked down that ramp.
HHH references all over this.
John and rock didn’t need that rematch taker and punk should have been the main event of wrestle mania that night I still miss punk even if it’s been 7 years
Rock and Cena shouldn’t have even happened again. Should’ve been Rock vs Punk or even a triple threat IMO.
That was the rock returning the favor and passing the torch so yeah it needed to happen
@@OutlawTorn33 yes it kind of did but it didn’t need the championship
@@OutlawTorn33 not really, Cena did not need that win. What torch? Rock had been gone for years and Cena had been THE GUY for years. There was no “passing of the torch”. Cena just had to get his win back, there was no reason for this match, no one wanted to see it, it ruins the whole “Once in a Lifetime” things from Mania 28, and it contributed to Punk leaving. Plus it was dogshit

Beside MJF, i think John is one of those wrestler that can dance around on the mic with Punk. Their promo was legendary💯
And then you have guys like edge and Chris Jericho complaining about it which means they cared about their spot too much.
They invested everything in cena and forgot about the rest of the roster
This was pure gold
Cool to see he liked working Cena. An all time great rivalry

I love that quote of the day "if you want to go fast, go alone but if you want to go far, go together"

I think more wrestlers should think outside the box every big wrestler had a comeback sequence and they've done it a thousand times so I never know why wrestlers don't think here's the comeback so I should do something about it. I get they do it for the fans to get on their feet but Cena has done a thousand shoulder barges don't you think it be more exciting if someone countered that.
