    My son was first diagnosed with croup at 2(he's 9 now) and used to freak out, but a paramedic gave us advice that really helped immediately everytime. When he would get sick with croup we would immediately steam up the shower have him in there for 15min. Than take him to the balcony to breathe in the cold fresh air. Doing both helped so much and immediately. Thank you for spreading this awareness and remedy ❤️

      Interesting!! Viral illnesses can cause a dry cough that can persist for a few weeks and sometimes linger a little longer but if your cough continues well past that I’d bring it up with your clinician, they may want you to see an adult ENT. Adults don’t typically get croup but there are other causes or a barky cough they may evaluate you for

      I find that one dose of dexa is better than prednisolone for croup and I notice it to have less side effects. Side effect being prednisolone can make some kids very agitated or cranky (short lived but still tough) and I dont see this as much with dexa

    So so helpful! Could you talk a bit about steroid usage for mild cases? My son has croup (likely due to Omicron) and though we have a mild case, the doctor recommended a single dose of steroids. I’m not sure whether to take it or wait it out, especially as we might be flying soon. Would appreciate any advice!

    • @pedsdoctalktv9960
      @pedsdoctalktv9960  2 роки тому +1

      I would go by severity. If impacting sleep or breathing, benefit is there. My son had croup twice as a young toddler and we waited it out the first time, ended up with decadron and second time did prednisolone. I will say the prednisolone made him very very angry. Its a common side effect that does improve once the medicine stops. Hence why I always look at benefit vs risk. Overall, we are happy we used the medicine as it did help his clinical symptoms when needed!

    My daughter got diagnosed with croup recently she is almost 4 years old she didn't have any symptoms but a weird fever one day on and off for 3 weeks she'd have a fever and then it would go away and she be fine the rest of the week and then she have a fever for a day or two and then should be fine the rest of the week sometimes you have a headache as well and that happened for 3 weeks and then one day she woke up and started with the seal bark cough and a slight fever the cough was only in the morning and wasn't that bad the next day I took her to the doctor she had no more fever and no cough but the doctor made her cough and she heard it in her voice the bark was there and her voice sounded a little raspy I had them check for covid because last year or so we were at the water park in the Poconos and she was having a hard time breathing I didn't know if it was because the room we were staying in had two rooms the room we were in didn't have a window and the fan wasn't working properly but I watched her sleep and she was stopping breathing and then she wake up gasping for air and go back to sleep and then I heard it in her breathing and I looked it up and I thought for sure it was croup I put her by the window with it open it was wintertime so that helped a little the next day I took her to the emergency room and she said same thing happened with her daughter and it ended up being covid sure enough they gave her steroids anyway just in case and it turned out to be covid but she had more croup symptoms back then then she did this time around which makes no sense and this time around it was no covid just croup so weird

      Hey! croup lasts usually up until age 5. It’s not permanent but there isn’t a “cure” for it. It should only happen when they get sick. And it’s not something you should panic panic over. It sounds much worse than it is. I’ll be honest I’m a rare case and at 20 I still get the croup. But the only times I’m affected by it is when I’m sick and I have never ever been hospitalized even with asthma. It’s just a minor inconvenience when I’m sick because it’s loud and my chest will hurt a little bit. When I was younger what helped me a lot was a humidifier by my bed when I slept
