This is so helpful ,my partner and I and our 2 year old twins suddenly came down with a horrible cough and flu symptoms, my poor babies are so irritated with the coughing my son has been up for a whole day now refusing to sleep and now my daughter is refusing to sleep too .ahhh Lord heal my babies
My asthmatic grandbaby gets severe coughs. We put a tiny dab on the chest and lower neck of hemp cream 900,000. Try it on yourself first so you get an idea of what it does. Keep it off the face because it has a vics like vapor. It's way better for pain and stops coughs so they can sleep.
I am from Pakistan and I know Indian and Pakistani mom loves their home remedies to help their sick children. Although mucus takes time before it is completely gone, also for underage kids it is very challenging. Thanks a lot for the video, very informative.
Hemp cream 900,0002 extra strength on the voice box area relieves pain and stops chronic cough. It smells like vic's. Keep it off the face. I actually used it on myself first. I have this on hand for back pain relief. After 5 minutes you'll feel a nice cooling feeling. This cream is like a miracle treatment. I was skeptical when I used it for back pain. I couldn't even stand up and was hosting Easter for 40 people. I rubbed the cream on my lower back, within 5 minutes my pain was totally gone and never came back again.
Omg 🙏🏾🙏🏾 thank you so much for this I tried tumeric milk for my 2year 7mnths old she’s been coughing non stop since we went to bed with 3-5 seconds in between her cough. Gave her the tumeric milk although I had no honey she took just as sip and it’s working 😢😮. I had already told myself it’ll be another sleepless night thank you so much
So thankful for your content. I have a sick 3 year old and 2 month old and i'm overwhelmed with what's ok with a toddler but not ok or available for my two month old! I can pause you and take notes vs hang up with the doctors office and forget everything they said 😅
I’m so glad that you decided to get on youtube! I process information better visually so this format helps me much better than your podcast, which I also think is great - just harder for me to process 😊 Thanks for all you do!
Thank you for this video. When my son gets viral coughs he tends to have crazy coughing fits to the point he throws up. I use a majority of these remedies already due to all the research I've done but I love how you break the reasoning down behind why each remedy is used. Thank you!
I'm not afraid of medicine, but it seems to me like my colds either go longer or turn into sinus infections when I try to suppress them with dayquil or mucinex, so I try to avoid them and go for the honey even as an adult! Very unscientific, but the times I've tried to use cold medicine to get me through a deadline with a cold it just seems like it goes and goes and goes.
Thank you for this video! Our twenty-seven month old woke with a wet cough and warm and cranky. I wasn't sure what to do, I left a message with our pediatrician. But want to do the right thing, and even more so to not do the wrong thing!
@@pedsdoctalk thank you, we brought her into our local testing tent and learned she had RSV, a mild case they expect to resolve in a few days. But the diagnosis has us extra vigilant
Very helpful! Came here because my babe has had a runny nose for about a week and wanted to see if I was missing some things! I was and found the honey tip and turmeric tip super helpful. Will try!
One of my faves (for myself at least, my daughter is a little too young yet) is good old fashioned (preferably homemade) chicken noodle soup. It's warm and helps alleviate the dry scratchy throat and provides a lot of fluids. Plus it just makes you feel better. I also like peppermint tea.
Thank you for sharing this important video! I love it how comprehensive it is by age and the different options (natural remedies vs OTCs). As a PA who works in the ER mainly with pediatric patients on colds and flus, this is definitely a bread and butter for me as well. Oh and the "antibiotics not good for common cold" speech that I'd have to give. You got yourself a subscriber!
Curious on your views on giving “afrin” or “Zyrtec” for a three year old during a cold. My husband thinks I’m being overly cautious by not giving it during the night when it helps clear her congestion. I’m more of the “turmeric milk” and he’s more of the “pharmaceuticals” type of guy so we bump heads a lot. Adding stress on an already stressful time.
There's no evidence to support the use of antihistamines for a cold. Afrin restricts blood vessels in the nose which can help with congestion but it's not FDA approved in kids under 6 and is also not recommended so for that age I recommend nasal saline instead
Your voice is sweet and soothing.. I listened for the information yes but more for your voice❤ Keep making videos for us, you are beautiful.. Love from India❤

I like to do the natural remedies even if I do use the OTC stuff too
Paracetamol, similar to Tylenol, and ibuprofen are common medications used to treat pain or fever in young children and are generally safe to be used in moderation with otherwise healthy children. Check out this video for more info: ua-cam.com/video/gyEiDMf8esg/v-deo.html

This was super informative! My 13 month is on the last part of cold and although we have been doing saline, suction, humidifier and steam shower as suggested by her pediatrician, I wasn't aware of honey or offering her turmeric milk. I will be trying tonight.

Hey Dr. Mona, thank you for this informative video. You mention the vick's baby rub having eucalyptus in it, however I keep reading that we shouldn't use Eucalyptus until a child turns 2. My cousin, an ER doctor has recommended using Eucalyptus on baby's pjs at night. Can you help me clarify? Thankd

Does nebulizing with saline water help with coughing?? I five my 9 and 11 year ild children’s musinex. I try natural remedy but nasal congestion and coughing is hard to treat.

Cough and congestion are often difficult to fully alleviate but, hopefully, the remedies I discuss here are helpful. I hope they feel better soon!

just what's listed in this video! nasal saline and suction as needed, can use humidifier if helpful, and close monitoring/following up with clinician if concerns. hope they feel better soon!
Hi Doc. I have a 2 months old boy who's coughing and sneezing but my issue is the phlegm cause I can literally hear it and it seems to be annoying him too cause he'll just cry randomly. Before we were admitted and had a couple of suctioning sessions done so I don't know if I should have those done again or if there's something that I can use to help thin the phlegm so that it can just come out by itself.
Yes at this age nasal congestion and phlegm is so tough! Nasal saline drops and suction can help as well as a steam shower to loosen secretions. Signs he may need deeper suction/hospital intervention are working harder to breath like ribs pulling inward, breathing faster, poor feeding or rectal temp over 100.4. I hope he feels better!
Good day doc ,my 6months,1&half yr and3yrs old baby's having cold and cough again and again What are those things I need to do as a home remedy? And do's& don't food during cold and cough Thankyou

Thank you for this video! My toddlers won't drink the golden milk (they don't know what they're missing), but will eat apple sauce with honey and turmeric mixed in. Is there any reason it wouldn't be as beneficial to give it to them that way?

@pallusvlog5195 i made my kids orange juice freshly squeeze in the morning and lunch. At night time it was warm orange juice with salt and honey for my two year old and one year old. And i put vicks under their feet cover with socks
@pallusvlog5195 make sure to cut the orange in half put salt a lil microwave for 30 seconds squeeze the side with the salt into a bowl add honey and with a spoon or sirange give to kids warm
Hi doc! My child had a fever for three days highest temp was 39. Then the next two days she had low grade fever of 37, but sometimes during the day it went off to around 36. Her CBC results were normal, although her WBC was near upper limit. Her Urinalysis also showed normal results. She had cough, which according to the pedia is dry cough. But she was fine in a sense that she was doing her normal routine and eats well. On the 7th day the pedia prescribed her antibitocs since she still had low grade fever of 37 and cough didn't seem to improve, although the kid was not coughing frequently. In scenarios like that wherein the fever lasted for several days (oltho it was a low grade during the last few days), was that already a good sign that it was not a viral infection, but most likely a bacterial infection? hence the need for antibiotc?
Usually, fevers from viral illnesses will resolve within 3-5 days so if fever above 38C lasts >5 days a further workup is typically recommended. If viral symptoms like cough and congestion are present, patient is otherwise feeling well and fever is resolving antibiotics are likely not necessary I hope that helps!
In general most caffeine free, herbal teas, like chamomile or mint, are safe for toddlers over the age of 2. You want to avoid honey under the age of one! Ask your child’s clinician if have questions about a particular kind of tea

Can i mix the honey with tea
In general most caffeine free, herbal teas, like chamomile or mint, are safe for toddlers over the age of 2. You want to avoid honey under the age of one! Ask your child’s clinician if have questions about a particular kind of tea
