To elaborate for Maya: she’s in a professional company right now and on top of class every day she also does performances almost every day when they’re in season. Along with that she is now wearing Freeds and if you know anything about pointe shoes, you know that Freeds die super super fast.😭 she used to wear Russian made shoes which last longer. PLUS professional companies give their dancers point shoes for free, so she’s not spending money on these shoes the company supplies her with the amount she needs to dance in safely so she isn’t dancing in dead shoes!
@@Iloveflowers-oz6sf She probably just has naturally long lashes. I’m fortunate enough to have long but sparse lashes and pretty much any mascara and a curler can get them looking like that
Nah they are used to it with the pros. It’s rare to have a pro who doesn’t visit the shoe stocker every day or every other day. They are super excited when they get a pro who only sees them every week or even more rarely every 2 weeks for one pair
The bank accounts just hoping for the day when pointe shows will actually be made to last. I mean, in so many years of ballet, how have real resistance yet healthy point shoes not been invented yet??? 😢
They have, but not enough options exist for all feet to find a pair that works well. I wear So Sanca JoyII now, over 2 months wearing the same pair 5x per week, at least 1 hour each day, still seem newish. I don’t fit Gaynors well at all though. Some people won’t fit either of those well. Some people just don’t like how the synthetic materials feel or look.
Melanie’s mascara looks so perfect it’s actually insane! Are those fake lashes? They don’t look like it.. but I’ve literally never seen such perfect mascara 😮😮😮
I remember when i first started pointe, being really annoyed I went through my first set within 6 months because of my hyper extension but seeing how many the professionals use- I'll keep quiet 😅
30 A MONTH!!!! Isn’t that like 3000 dollars a month on pointe shoes! That’s actually so crazy, I can usually go one a month but I’m not a professional. But it’s really cool to see the differences between the dancers and their preferences.
@@tay_laus ah, I never knew that, thats does make a lot of sense knowing that much of these girls are still in high school. Also dancing is possibly what they do all day so it would be hard to work a job to pay for the shoes with it.

It’s crazy how often you should and need to go through them when how incredibly expensive they are. I’m home so happy my parents didn’t put me in this type of dance. If your in a company it’s a lot cheaper but to get there is really hard work.
This is interesting. I'm a fan, not a dancer, so didn't know how this works. Sounds terribly expensive! Love you, Master Ballet Academy-- very talented dancers. ✨💐👏
When I wore Freeds I would go through almost a pair a week and for the non dancers out there my Freeds were like $120. Paying about $120 per week got to be too expensive so I ended up switching brands. I still love my Freeds but I only wear them when Im not doing a heavy performance.
I love how when we all saw Maya’s toe pads people were like “what if she can’t afford to get new ones and you’re laughing at the only pair she has” and here she is going through a pair of pointe shoes a day lmao
personally i’m a semi-professional dancer i do different styles other than point so i dance everyday but only pointe about 2-3 times a week. my shoes take a while to die and i love dead shoes so usually mine last about 5 months
The two biggest shockers are Maya being so high and Melanie only going through 4 a month. I really would have guest arouns 10 for how amazing and practiced they are.
All I can think of that one infamous photograph of a ballerina with pointe shoes that are taped up with duct tape. That would be me. My mom used to sew my leotards and knit my leg warmers. We were *very* poor in comparison to all the other dancers with 2-3 story homes. My mom couldn’t even afford a car. Eventually I switched to gymnastics which was far more forgiving financially. The parents in gym also seemed more likely to help one another out.
My cousin did ballet all the way through high school to auditions for some companies. Her brother did hockey. My aunt and uncle aren’t rich. They made sacrifices and made sure my cousins could pursue their passions and interests. I loved going to see her perform (Nutcracker was my favorite)! She still takes some classes at her studio and helps teach some classes.
I asked my mom about this since she was a ballerina in the Soviet Union and she was like…. That’s ridiculous, the shoes must be super low quality that’s not normal
Can anyone give a little more context. If a dancer on average is starting a new pair of point shoes every week. For example, how many hours a week a pair of point shoes are being used? Also, how much does dancing on dead points affect your foot health? It sounds like a lot of money, but some people will pay that much in fuel ($60) for their cars every week and it’s seen as a basic need.
I'm shocked! As a non-dancer, I thought pointe shoes had to be changed every 3 or 4 months. 4 a month seems already gigantic so my jaw fell when I heard about 30 😮 It seems like so much waste! (not trying to say that she shouldn't do that, just that pointe shoes seems very weak) Do you sell your used shoes to non-professional dancers so they can use them longer? How long is it possible to keep the same pair? I'm very interested in knowing more about this topic :)
Maybe ….. just maybe…. If Maya changed her toe pad. I feel like that has to affect the count even in season and In a performance rotation. On the other hand…. Something to be said for not changing what is not broken. Yet.
So maya goes through one a day 😭😭 so for 365 days she spends about 36,500 on shoes my bank account is crying. (I know she’s in a company and they pay for them)
