- The number 2 nobby from the 'pick a winner' competition was Justin's pick of the entire bunch.
There is great hope for this particular nobby, it has an exceptionally thick color bar compared to most. To take advantage of how thick this color bar is, there may be some slicing involved, but you'll have to watch to find out if it pays off or not!
Here is the gem

While I appreciate that you're willing to try different formats with your videos, YOU"RE the star of the show. We're all here for you, your wisdom, your knowledge, your memories, your engagement, your stories. You're an amazing craftsman and an even better teacher, and honestly that's what we're all here for
I was coming here to say pretty much the same thing! Glad I’m not the only one who feels this way
I appreciate that Thank you. Yes some weeks I just want to inspire through opal and others I wanna talk about it.
I think this may have been a tribute to his dad.
I disagree strongly. Star of the show is the opal. Best video to date!
You obviously do not know how hard it is to keep making videos like he does. Let him just do his thing. He knows he has a fan base and people like change. He is not going to bow down to one person and what they would like him to do so cut it out.
I expected this to end in a dance!
Me too lol
@@blackopaldirect And? WHERE IS IT? ❤
How can you not love him dancing
I'm dancing listening to the opening right now knowing what fun and beautiful things are coming even though I missed the live.❤
🗣SPRINKLAHHHHHH🎉
Love, love, love this pair. I look at your opals and can't really afford what I want, because y'all have increased the value of my desires. Your vids have really opened my eyes to the world of opals and now I am obsessed. This pair really speaks to me....ahhhh one of these days I find just the right opals for me that I can get. FYI, wouldn't buy from any one but you. Absolutely gorgeous pair that I feel in my heart and soul. Thank you!!!
Thank you
Without a doubt your father is so proud of you and everything you have achieved, not just as a master of your trade but as a person too 🥰🙏🏻
Justin, you are the master! I did not see that nobby coming out as a matched pair. Congratulations!
That's partially why he held it to a light to try and determine what he has to work with as far as internal inclusions, cracks, etc. And YES most definitely a Master at his Craft
Fantastic Justin 👍👍🏴☠️❤️❤️
Its fabulous how everything in the world is trying to take a shape. Even the atoms are trying to find a group to form a complicated structures as gemstones.
The jeweler's/gem cutter's work is to release the beauty of the nature that was hid within and improve it to perfection💖
Literally a mirrored perfect pair. Outstanding.
Breathtakingly Beautiful pair!
Thank you for editing this abbreviated episode!
Don't like giving the thumbs down but I think most of us are comfortable to listen to you talk us through your experience.Iam a 60,s 70,s music chronic .This new music dousnt do much for me.
Once again, the gems are shaped as beautifully as the video!
Thank you so much 😀
What a beautiful set for earrings!
I think so too!
Love it. I like the different video format. Very well put together. The Black Opal team is very slick right now! 😍
Thank you
At the end of a busy exhausting but productive day I love to watch inspiring videos from Black Opal Direct because they are SO relaxing.
Thank you Justin and crew. 😘
Absolutely amazing Justin👌🏻 Your vids really are a masterpiece⛏️🏴
Thank you Gold Hunter
Always great when a rare pair is created! Going to be amazing for someone.
I cut and polished an opal very similar to that Justin, from a parcel I got from you and Ruth. Turned it into a wedding present set in mother of pearl for My new Niece from Milan, Italy Lake Como. Came over to the US to marry My deceased Brothers son in spring 2022. Barely speaking English during the wedding reception, trying to find the words to explain how beautiful it was, She cried very happy tears followed by the best hug ever. You just never know just how powerful the gift of a handmade gem is until You give it. Thanks Justin. You touch more people than You will ever know
Awww thank you Mark
I nearly cried when you started cutting this stone in half lol but it still came out nicely 👍
Omg me too I thought he wanted the black inside like that I've been looking online for used cutting wheels and now I'm questioning everything I know about life
trust in the force padwan
@@blackopaldirect I couldn't see everything as you can , so I just knew whatever happens would be entertaining 😂
Loving the deep azurite blue, like a sapphire which happens to be my birthstone. Only been doing lapidary work for 5 years now. I'm 54 and enjoy it emensely, wishing I had discovered it sooner.
Beautifully done with a great soundtrack to boot. Just love it, Justin
Thank you :-)
How interesting! This was the nobby I voted on. Didn’t expect a pair like that!
Thank you
First off loved the pair of opals, absolutely delightful. Secondly, while I enjoyed the new format, music and classy editing, I missed hearing your voice and thought processes, for me it adds to the dynamic and personality of each opal you cut and gives each one its own story. In saying that, I would still watch everything you put out☺
Thank you very much for the feedback
Could always have a commentary running from a local horse race instead?
@@blackopaldirectI miss hearing your voice and funny banter Justin. I believe I learn more about opals when you explain things as you go along. Opals are one of my favorite gem stones. ❤😊
Those would make some absolutely beautiful earrings!
Not everyone would have looked at that Nobby and seen the potential..I think some would have cut it and thought is was flawed because of the darkness in the center of each piece. But you, saw the potential and made something so special out of it..a pair of such lovely pieces, it's amazing! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
It's great to watch the master of his craft at work. Beautiful gems
This was enjoyable watching the master lapidary craftsman bring the stone to such perfection.
I've never seen such stunning opals. What an eye!!!
I came home from a busy camping and fishing trip with my 2 sisters, where there is no internet, and found your video and the soothing, awesome music. I thank you tremendously for this. Your gems are beautiful too! ❤
That is awesome! Glad you love the outdoors
Wowza, you don't see this perfect color that often. Brilliance is the word I'm thinking.
@Justin, I did some research on building a diy “soft” X-ray source to take pics inside these opels. It’s probably too much for any of your contacts to build, but, they’re not “terribly difficult” to build. It does require a 35Kv power supply, a beam supply vacuum tube and so fourth. It’s not that expensive. It does require much caution to prevent electrical shock and X-ray overexposure. If you’ve got any ham radio friends, it should be easy for them to build.
In Australian talk - cheers!
Flashes of violet - truly they are amazing! Mother Earth would say that you are showing us her hidden beauty!
Beautiful, great job!
Wow, absolutely stunning
Thank you! Cheers!
There's no gemstone as majestic as opal.
I loved this Justin! This sums up why I started watching your channel: the videos always relaxed me after a long day and the beautiful opals that you produce just make me happy! Those are two of your best yet opals: they remind me of a pair of gorgeous blue eyes. ❤❤❤
Wow! Absolutely stunning!
What a beautiful pair of stones. Some blessed person is going to enjoy wearing them.
I'm weeping right now because this is the most beautiful introduction I've even seen you do. Music, editing, visuals are sheer perfection!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You're the best! Thank you
Funny I feel exactly the opposite about this video. I didn’t like a constant music overlay, missed the cutting comments and silly Justin. I actually fast forwarded to the end to see the beautiful stones. To each their own. I’ve watched all of your videos and thank you for what you do. You got me through the pandemic. Each video was a spot of light in the dark times.
Buy him a glass of wine first will ya
Thanks Justin for Sharing !
such beautiful opals 😮 can’t wait to see what the next rough piece holds!
Love watching you hone your craft
Excellent video and superb gems cut. Miss your narration. , your wit and experience shared cannot be replaced by music. Kind regards Morgan in South Africa
Wow, super thick color bar on this one.
And it cut into an amazing pair! Not quite as black as I like, but then again I like those jet black opals where the color is only seen in sunflash.
Sure is!
I’m so glad you went in. 🤩
Only a Master can make Nature's beauty truly shine. You never disappoint Justin. Thank you for allowing us to witness your joy.💗💗💗
Great show. Awesome opals, as always.
Stunning pair!!
You are so kind
Beautiful stones and a great video x
It's always a great evening when I see a new upload from Justin at BOD. What a magical stone, and also those boulder opals you showed off yesterday.
Haha thank you
I find your videos very comforting generally. This was especially peaceful, and the gems were so lovely. Thank you.
You are so welcome
Those are the most beautiful blue stones I have seen. To me the blues purples and greens ARE the stone the black is mere highlighting of the beauty.
I enjoy each of your videos! This pair is so beautiful! Magical!
Best Monday night new video from Black Opal Direct!!!Cheers
Thank you
This is timeless ❤
Thank you
Quite a perfect pair - so stunning - well done
Thank you! Cheers!
Never disappointed ,best time spent all week 👍
Lovely pair. Well done
That was awesome, two beautiful stones.
😎😎😎👍👍👍
Thank you
Stunningly beautiful
I really enjoy this video format, very soothing ❤ keep up the good work
Glad you enjoy it!
Wowa!!!! Gorgeous
Interesting format but I love your commentary on the normal format. You add so much with your voice over. It is good to try things even if some of your people might want something else!
A minor suggestion, Justin. A friend of mine who sells expensive coloured diamonds told me he doesn't clip his nails but rather files them, to enhance the close-up experience.
Hahah good to know
Very well done, both the video and the jems 👍
Thanks again.
Our pleasure!
Justin & B.O.D. I wat to say THANK YOU my friends & Teacher for everything especially the emails and time given to us.
Top video justin like always . Tks mate
If they had come out slightly different sizes, they would still make terrific his & hers rings.
WOW!!! stunning one of my favorites ❤
Stunning!
Thank you! Cheers!
I've been following you for about 4 years and I still find it fascinating to watch you. Your skill and knowledge of opals is unique. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and spoiling us with so many beautiful videos. Greetings from Germany 😘

UNBELIEVABLE...GREAT PRESENTATION 😊
Glad you liked it!
Happy Birthday Dad, hence the silence. This is for me one of your best, Justin. Your Dad learned you well, your reveal on this Opal is a perfect representation of you & your Dads love for each other.
Glad you enjoyed it 🙏
They are stunning. The music in this video was amazing.
Thank you
Gorgeous!
Thank you! 😊
Stunning...
Nice pair!!! Beautiful!
Thank you!
Maybe the best video I’ve ever smoked a bowl while watching 😂 that music and the beauty of the stone was a meditative experience ❤
Awesome 👏
Exquisite little matching masterpiece's.
Glad you think so!
Beautiful
Wow, been watching for a couple of weeks. The hum of the wheel, Justin’s soothing voice and his magical hands plus the stunning, beautiful opal are a delight to watch!
Welcome aboard!
What voice? This was ace but he was completely silent in this one.
@@dylanmeyer6614 Well, he or she said they were watching for a couple of weeks. I know he didn't keep quiet in all his videos for 2 weeks.
@@jjbud3124 ok my mistake. Apologies. I misread the comment and thought it only referred to this latest instalment.
I've been watching justin cutting opal for quite some time. Frankly, since this video started, i know justin will slice the stone.. thanks justin for all the lesson and your journey.. trust me, " i'm going in "
That is awesome!
I never tire watching your videos! Like a box of chocolates, you never know what you will end up with! What a lovely pair of gems. They will make a great pair of earrings. ❤BOD. Hello to you all!
Thanks so much 😊
Yet another spectacular vid of you & your amazing craftsmanship Justin, with your dad ever close by watching over you as you as you go about creating amazing pieces. What a sensational pair of end product Black Opals 😍 Top effort 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Thank you Sinister
Love it ❤
I wish! What a beauty! 😮
Thank you
Very welcome
Great work again Justin. Bravo! Awesome to watch a master craftsman working their skills and showing their craft.
Reminds me of when I visited Europe (almost 30yr ago) watching masters making Venician Glass products.
Thanks again!
Gorgeous
This is the one i voted for because I have a stone I've been putting off cutting that is very similar. I cant decide if I want to cut it in half like you did or not. It looks like your worked out however the color around the perimeter is better than the color in the middle.
maybe cut the better color outside off, and doublet them, use lesser color center for bigger stone...my thoughts
I Absolutely Love The Music 🎶 Choices In This Video 😮
Absolutely wonderful photography and music! Great storytelling!
Glad you enjoyed it!
This is a great format👍✅️
Thank you
The cat’s eye look of those stones is really remarkable Justin 😊
Thank you
Rich ocean blues....breathtaking 💙
Those are really pretty!
Thank you! Cheers!
Wow. Just. Wow. I was worried when the slice revealed a really dark patch in the middle. Almost looked like potch or something, to the untrained eye. But DANG. That color runs deep and mysterious. Further enhancing my belief opal is the best gemstone around. Diamonds, rubies, emeralds. All just ok, compared to the crystallized fire that comes out of Australia.
Yes I was worried too
