Arabic Coffee Etiquette: How To Prepare, Serve and Drink It in Saudi Style
I had the honor to meet and collaborate with Sara Alali, Saudi's first female sensory judge in Arabic coffee (qahwa) competitions and the co-founder of "That" boutique cafe that specializes in preparing specialty coffees. (@thatcafesa- Instagram)
Together with Sara, we prepared Arabic coffee a la Saudi style, talked about ways of serving and drinking it. In this video, you will learn about the intricacies of preparing and enjoying a cup of finjan (traditional Arabic coffee cups) of qahwa. Every culture has its own etiquette rules that are reflected in the way people eat their food and drink their beverages and this video is another proof of how etiquette reflects these cultural values and norms.
Huge thanks to Sara Alali for accepting my invitation and her eagerness to share her knowledge with all of us. Her love for coffee is contagious. If you are ever in Riyadh, stop by her cafe "That."
My heartfelt gratitude to Princess Nouf for providing us with the shoot venue- "Lift" art and gallery space (@Lift.ksa- Instagram). If you are in Riyadh, definitely try out their art workshops and check out their exhibitions.
And of course big thanks to Mohammed for his videography and editing. (@Mohammed.ally- Instagram)
Let me know if you would like to see more on Saudi and/or other cultures. And I am always open for collaborations. Email info@jamilamusayeva.com if you want to shoot something about culture in your country.
Sincerely,
Jamila Musayeva

I was at church today. And so many people complimented me and said I was elegant and demure. They said "you even speak softly and elegantly." And they said that I look like something out of a film 😂A man said "now that's a lady!" It's thanks to you ❤ I'm 15 years old
I am so happy to hear it ❤️
I absolutely love you highlighting and demonstrating different cultures ways of etiquette and serving food/drink. More please 🥰
More to come!
Yyyaaaay finally Saudi etiquette 😍🇸🇦
More to come hopefully!
I loved it! Can you do more of these for Saudi culture or other middle eastern countries. Such beautiful traditions and language they have.
I would love to!
Fantastic ! Thank you so much
This was quite the learning experience and so useful. We enjoy taking middle east airlines and using the business lounge so thank you for this video to prepare us for their households
What an amazing video!! as someone who is obsessed with saudi coffee I really enjoyed it🇸🇦❤️
It's so good!
Finally, my culture is represented 😍😍🇸🇦🇸🇦🇸🇦🇸🇦
🙏🏻🙏🏻
This was the video I never knew I NEEDED 😂😂😂
🙏🏻☺️
What a treat🥺 I appreciate the videos about these cultures since I'm not familiar with any of them. I find them interesting and very resfreshing! Thank you Jamila❤
great experience to know the traditional arabic coffee and hand gestures in drinking.👍👍.
Great video Jamila and Sara! I’m a foreigner living in Riyadh, and it has been so much fun discovering the coffee culture there. ❤
Happy to hear it!
loved it!
I would love to add that traditionally one of the reasons we serve coffee in 1/3 finjan is due to a hospitality manner, as it show to the guests that they’re welcome and that they aren’t burden on the host ( that why the host/ server is always around ). It’s consider inappropriate to serve the finjan full.
and of course thank you, I appreciate ur consideration
I love this!
I must say that I love your channel even more now that you are representing Arabic culture. I am also very happy to see that you are a proud Muslim. You are absolutely an Azerbaijani princess! Thank you 🩵
Thank you ☺️

thank you so much❤
This was such a pleasant surprise
Glad to hear it!
Saudi coffee, Saudi culture, and everything about it is beautiful and amazing.
Enjoyed the video, thanks for the coverage.🌷💘
My pleasure 😊
I love this video, thank you! Her explanation was amazing
I love this video!😍 It is true that dates are traditionally served with Saudi coffee but nowadays on special occasions people will also serve what we call "حلا قهوة" or “coffee desserts” which are essentially bite sized desserts that can be easily eaten with your hand while enjoying a conversation. It’s different from the kind of desserts served after a meal where they would be plated and eaten with a fork or spoon. Another popular option is stuffed dates that can have many fillings, usually nuts. This adds variety as part of hospitality when serving a bigger party.
I have seen these kind of dates as well.
Good Day Jamila
Thank you for posting
Loads of love from Eswatini
Thank you 🙏🏻
I would like to add if the host/ess come to pour someone more coffee but the guest is done, you'll see the guest shaking the finjan and that's the host/ess cue to either stop serving or take the finjan from the guest. love you Jamila 💌
Thank you for sharing this!
So interesting, thank you❤❤❤
Glad you enjoyed it ☺️
That’s a really beautiful and informative video!
Thank you so much!
This video made me realize something interesting. I initially found Sara’s tone and way of speaking, like starting or ending sentences with “ok,” a bit impolite for my taste. But after thinking it over, I understand it might just be her natural way of communicating. I’ve come across several colleagues and clients who speak in a similar manner, and I believe there’s no intention of being rude - it’s just their style. This video gave me a new perspective on that!
I think it has to do with the fact that English is not her first language and it might be a habit from her own language.
Thank you for sharing that aspect, never thought about it.
Love you from Saudi Arabia 💞💞
Very interesting video, I learned a lot!
Glad to hear it!
i like that ,thanx
Jamila i loved The video it’s amazing!!!

@@beebzaidan2633 Ohhh! Now i understand
Super God bless you🥰🙏❤️💋😊
Thank you! You too!
I loved the topic and I really love your videos 🤍🤍🤍🇸🇦 but unfortunately I felt like there were SOOO many missing cultural information the guest failed to highlight 😓😞
Also, dates are always served in an odd number: 1,3,5 😊
Good point!
What a lovely video
Thank you!
أحب القهوة السعودية جدًا
I do too ☺️
💚
😍

🇸🇦🥰

How to eat dates elegantly???
As shown in the video ☺️
Fruit with pits (like dates) should always be opened before eating it (what if it’s bad inside - not that uncommon, you know).
What do you mean by opened?
I personally love to pour full cup of coffee for myself 😂 I know it’s against tradition because if you pour full cup that means you don’t welcome that guest
Same here 🙈
Saudi coffee 🇸🇦🇸🇦💚😋
