Merrow M-3DW Patch Edge

Merrow patch edge experiment
Trying to save money by using a modified M-3DW (serger) and not buy an expensive MG-3U (patch machine).
Result:
Patch needle plate and feed dogs are not compatible with this machine, see photos.
Modifications made:
1) change both Stitch cams to either 28 or 30 stitches per inch.
2) remove upper knife. remove lower knife
3) insert patch Edge guide into lower knife holder.
4) remove foot and use Swing Away foot arm with no foot. reduce foot pressure
5) use two cones of serger thread and one cone of Mauzer silk rayon floss thread.
Conclusion: I'm happy with how this came out. parts cost about $120 (two cams & edge guide). Satisfied with the results and significant cost savings over purchasing a patch machine.
Different color threads only used for testing purposes. 😊

I have this style Merrow machine and was thinking of converting to do patches. Yours looks great. Very encouraging.

So if you still have other finger thing, it might be possible to grind and buff the piece so as to make it work maybe. Might be worth a try. Very good to see you do this.

I purchased this part directly from Merrow. this part cost $70 and below is the information I received about putting the part into my machine.
"you can use the 6-107-25 Fabric/Edge Guide in the M-3DW. You will need to remove the cutters and put the guide where the lower cutter goes in the machine"
