Thanks for the Absolute Beginner video. Just FYI, the origins of Gel Plate printing, go back a long way. Hectograph printing (also called Gelatine Duplicators or Jellygraphs) date back to the 1870s, and in fairly common use in duplication until the early 20th Century when they became replaced by spirit duplicators and later mimeographs. Gelatine duplicators have an interesting wartime history in both world wars as the low technology needed and portability made them ideal for clandestine and field documents.
Wow! You just solved a mystery that's stuck with me for over 35 years. I remember seeing my Grade 2 teacher creating these purple coloured worksheets in class on a tray of what appeared to be jelly. I thought it was some sort of voodoo magic back then! 😅
Coffee filters work great in place of deli paper. The upside to using coffee filters is that you can use them in other projects. They give a similar affect to using craft tissue paper.
Oh my gosh thank you so much! YT started recommending videos about gel plate printing and I watched them but I had no clue what I was watching. The results were amazing but I didn't know where to begin to do it myself. This answered all my questions!!
I understand drying the inks, im an inker, but i gad a hard time with lifting the dry acrylics...guess each will bring diff effects. Im excited to add the gelli ink technique to my repertoire!
I just found you and am so grateful to have your video. It gets daunting watching a lot of videos when you’re just looking for basics. Thank you for the one stop shopping - it’s so much appreciated!
I've been wanting to do some gelli plate printing, but found the videos lacking. You gave me great information. You did a terrific job of teaching me! Thank you!
Thank you for a great tutorial for beginners in using Gelli plates! You have a wonderful presentation style - you just get on with it without loads of hesitation and you explain clearly how it works for someone who has never used one before!,
I can’t 🎉believe I just found you. I am doing more than a happy dance you are fantastic I have been doing my gel plays good, but not great and you I have been working along the side of this class for your teaching. I am falling down over excitement and I have worked or watch people that teach and they have never ever showed me this and you are fantastic and I am so glad that I met you. I can’t express the gratitude that I am feeling from you. Thank you so very much. I hope you have a nice weekend. I’m so happy to have found you. You have changed my whole perception of geli plating
Thank you for showing how one can use "STAMPS" on the gel plate. I just started using my and sometimes I get lost, with the inks and paint not knowing how to use them. Thank you again. I will view more of your UA-cam to understand the process.
Thank you so much especially about the alochol ink!!! I'm an alcohol ink abstract artist and decided to try something new and different and this was awesome!!!
Thank you so much for sharing the basics!! I cant tell you how many other artists ' videos I've watched and there is no information about what kind of paints etc to use- your video is great, much appreciated
I just bought a plate and I can't wait until i can play. Thank you for this. You explained everything SO well! I'll be posting my results on you FB group tomorrow.
Thank you so much for this introduction video. While I watch my favorite UA-camrs use and mention hello plates I had no idea even what it was… much less how to take care of it. Everyone shows printed techniques, like you say, so God bless you for speaking directly to people like me! I’m excited now to try mine (just finally found one at Michael’s today).
Wow... GREAT TIPS! as a seasoned artist, stamper, teacher, im sorry i charged ahead w too much faith and not enough YOU! I ruined my gelli plate edges using nice photo paper! Shocked it was so dangerously grippy! Best what not to do ever! Ive still stuck with thicker paper, yupo specifically, it works great. Pricier, but i also know it loves inks, and wont tear on pulls like some do. Glad to know Ive got another ink technique to add to my repertoire. Thanks much!
Such helpful tips, something I have not spent enough time playing with, you have inspired me Lou, I will be coming back to this time and again, thank you.....xxxx
Good beginners tutorial. my best tip is to have a pan of soapy water nearby. I toss brayers, stencils and stamps in for easy clean up later. I use a $1 store cat litter pan and a splash of Murphys oil soap.
Great video! I’ve just been introduced to the Gel plate craft. Had no idea where to start. This video explains the craft in precise, easy language with easy to follow instructions. Just what I needed, Thanks
Thank you so much. I have bought a gel plate and have been keen to start but slightly intimidated by interesting tutorials that have not explained the details and left so many questions. A lot of these have been answered by your tutorial. I will now get on and start experimenting.
Thank you, this video was exactly what I needed as got some small, shaped gelli plates the other day but haven’t been brave enough to try playing with them yet. Now I know what to do with them 😊
Eeeeek., I refuse to buy a gelatine based plate. So I need to make Glyicerine one, I guess. Haha, it is at it is. However, I love your tutorial! Thank you so much 💜💜💜
Please, share why? I wondered about DIYing a silicone one? or i just discorvered soft resin.. but guessing it doesnt have the grip? Not sure how glycerin would be grippy though? Thx.
@@hollyartistauthor First I need to tell you that these Gelli plates are vegan. I was so wrong 😱. You can read it on their website. I'm sorry. I don't want gelatine in it because it is made of animals.
Thank you! This is the first video of yours I have watched and it was so helpful! I’ve been doing gel printing for a wee while but not with alcohol inks….I’m inspired to try that now.
Great video. I can't wait to try out your technique. I bought a plate, scrapbook, and 2 brayers. The first paint i bought was called Pouring Acrylic and it wouldn't spread evenly on the plate. It just beaded up like water on a windshield.
Thank you soooo much for this video! I do like the effects of gel plates. I bought some about a year ago but have not used them. This video gave me confidence to use them now! Thank you, thank you!
Thank you! Another very good video!! So informative!! I’m interested in botanical printing on the gel plate. I will look to see if you have any of them. If not I hope that you make some! Thank you again!💕
I love how you have introduced not putting the paint straight on to the Geli plate! I will now get my geli plates out and re-discover the fun! Thank you and appreciated! Love it!
Thanks for the Absolute Beginner video.

😂 funny. i thought she said gelli paper! Im at salon, its noisy. Glad to know. Is it same as freezer paper? glossy side, matte side
@hollyartistauthor I think deli paper would be equivalent to freezer paper.
Why is that an upside of Coffee Filters? You can use deli paper for different crafts and projects as well..and they are cheaper
Oh my gosh thank you so much! YT started recommending videos about gel plate printing and I watched them but I had no clue what I was watching. The results were amazing but I didn't know where to begin to do it myself. This answered all my questions!!
Well that was just exactly what I wanted. Thank you so much.
That's so funny that you include interruptions 🤣
That's brilliant! Because our days can be filled with those.
I understand drying the inks, im an inker, but i gad a hard time with lifting the dry acrylics...guess each will bring diff effects. Im excited to add the gelli ink technique to my repertoire!
Thank you! I haven’t used my plate yet, because my table needs cleaned up first, lol. This was very helpful!
