Elliott got his start working on Late Night with David Letterman, and he made a brief return to Letterman’s show a few years ago, where he introduced a few more memorable characters.
He has continued to work, and he currently has a supporting role on a popular Canadian sitcom, so let’s take a look at what really happened to Chris Elliott.

what the heck ever happened to Justine Bateman?
He’s such an excellent actor on Schitt’s Creek, I believe him 100% in every scene. Hope to see him in more things since this revival
"Since the early 2000's Elliot has kept a low profile." 50 IMDB credits since 2000 including 41 episodes of Schitt's Creek. Ex presidents have done a better job of keeping a low profile.
I used to LOVE "Get A Life". That show was funny as hell.
me too, middle school in the 80's.... lol
problem is only about 1% of the population got the humor.
The mail order submarine episode.
no, that one was sad because they were both trapped. plus, brings back memories of when I got trapped in a mail order sub with my pops. glad they don't sell those anymore.
It's on UA-cam
Chris Elliot is great! I'm glad to hear he's doing good. It sucks that the network passed on his own show but sounds like he is having a good life. Nice to hear good stuff for a change.
If you were to ask me who my favorite actor was as a kid, it would have been Chris Elliott from Get a Life. I always get a nostalgic feeling when I seen him randomly in shows and movies. I'm glad he's getting some recognition here.
I loved him on Letterman; I used to watch in the 80s. My favourite was when Chris Elliott would appear as Panicky Guy, Guy under the Seats, and all the other characters he played. You could see how much Dave like his comedy. Loved him on Schitt’s Creek❤️
Dude is on schitts creek. What do you mean what happened to him
That's what I came here to say. He is hilarious.
Rkade Berserk I just started watching it lol
Words right out of my Schitty mouth Rkade.
I was about to say that. He is great on the show and I have enjoyed all 3 seasons that is on netflix. I don't have Pop so I cannot watch Season 4 until it hits netflix
It’s a Canadian show so people act like it doesn’t exist. Dumbasses. 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Chris has had that "why isn't he bigger" thing his whole career. He's in good company across all fields of entertainment if that's any consolation (looking hard at you music industry).
This is my strong hand 🙌🏽😻
Ryann Taylor take my good hand child
Still love seeing his old Letterman bits on youtube when I need some laughs. Such a talent.
Guy Under The Seats was my favourite character of his.
I loved "Get a Life!" Who remembers Spewy the alien? 😂😂😂
I've loved Chris Elliot since the very early Letterman days. I didn't know that was his daughter on SNL! He is HILARIOUS!!!!! ALSO, TERRIBLY underrated!!!
These pipes are CLEAN!
Who hasn't guest stared in Law&Order SVU?
Michael Lewis this is the most truthful statement I’ve read in years 😊🙌🏽🤔
Michael Lewis I haven't yet, got my fingers crossed
Im watching him now on law&order
I really loved Cabin Boy when I was a kid.
Omg I forgot about eagle heart, he was so awesome in that!
Liked him in Groundhog's Day.
Echadh Groundhog* Day
gee thanks Hal.
*Thank you! I have been craving this! Love me some Chris Elliot!*
One word: "Bananas!"...any real Chris fan automatically 'gets' that joke..probably his funniest recurring routine on Late Night.
Right under the thumbnail for this video, it said in fine print, "people like you also watched this". People like me? Lol. I haven't met one yet..
He should be in so much more. He's excellent.
I dig him back on that TV show Get A Life. lol. He was crazy dude in There's Something About Mary.
When rock climbing, he reached for the ledge with his "Strong hand".
He played Eric's Guidance Councillor in an episode of That 70's Show
This video is now 4 years old and somehow Chris Elliot's best work is still ahead.
8 years now. ...
Bob Elliott appeared on SNL too, first 3 generations to be on SNL through the years.
yup, that's why I said "appeared"
Get a life was great
I still love the episode where he built the submarine in the bathtub... and Paperboy 2000. It's just like living in outer space!
Saw "Cabin Boy" in the theater when it came out, bought it on VHS when it was released and again on DVD when I finally ran across a copy. It's still one of my main Go-Tos when I'm feeling down and need a pick me up. Movie is just so much weird-assed fun. :)
A genius named copperhound has uploaded them onto UA-cam and 8t is glorious to see
Haha, I always liked him.
haha
I've met him, he's a good guy and has raised a wonderful family
The most underrated actor/comedian
I guess now I'll have to take a look at Schitt's Creek. Loved Chris from his Letterman days. Early Letterman was just comedy gold. My favorite bit of his was " the Guy Who Lived Under the Seats".
Cabin Boy was great. I managed to catch it in the theatres the lone weekend it was out and I remember how pissed off people were leaving the theatre and how entertaining it was to see such an intense reaction to an offbeat comedy film.
I love this guy, he's Freaken amazing
Loved him on letterman when used to hide under the stairs in the audiance
He had a hilarious and what also turned out to be a quite heartwarming role in The Last Man On Earth, earlier this season.
Good question I've always wanted to know what happened to him
He was funny in CB4
I assumed he had health issues when he looked different a few years back. Thought you were going to say he died. I was going to quote his Groundhogs Day character: “I’m really gonna miss him. A lot.” Classic.
I love Cabin Boy.
Chris Elliot was damn funny. Too bad he never had a big hit.
Thanks for the laughs Chris.
I ran into him at the Portland Jetport in Portland, Maine. He's a really friendly guy. I'm surprised it wasn't mentioned that he was the voice of Dogbert in the Dilbert cartoon series.
One of my favorite comic actors. Loved Cabin Boy and Get A Life!
True story-- growing up as a kid in Morocco, my grandparents (where we stayed) only had ONE American movie on VHS that we would watch over and over again: Cabin Boy. Later, as an adult in the states, I was blown away when other people hadn't heard of it/didn't like it.
Wow, I feel like there should be a charity to donate to so something like this never happens again.
Cabin Boy was hilarious!
Vanger48912 These pipes are clean
That was the first thing I told my wife when I got my colonoscopy last year. She didn't get the joke.
madbug1965 lmao...That's a great one
these pipes are clean!
...not
Chris Elliot IS so funny!
I really enjoyed his show, and wished it had stayed on.
Chris Elliott is a underrated talent. I think Cabin Boy and Get a Life will live up to the test of time.
They should cycle these two by us again now that weed is legal.
Thanks for making this video after all
he wrote a bunch of books too. Daddy's Boy is awesome!
Big fan here..... loved Bob and Ray on NY radio back in the day, and loved everything Chris Elliot did.
Let's go Brandon
Chris Elliot is wonderful in Schitt's Creek!
He was also in, "Dances With Wolves".
I hope he gets a smash hit show that he’s created one day he deserves success he’s hilarious
here's one actor i always knew was an oddball in real life
Everybody’s dad’s favorite actor. Hahaha I’ve always thought he was so funny!
To answer the question posed by the title; nothing, he's never gone away at all.
I loved Eagleheart he was hilarious in it!
Don't forget his guest appearance on King of Queens as the exterminator guy. That was funny.
Chris Elliot is awesome. Love the guy
Chris eliot bring back so many good memories
Yeah, he's been part of a huge success for the last 6 years on Schitt's Creek. That's what happened to him.
Schitt's Creek! It's an incredibly bingeable show on Netflix. Lot's of fun.
“Take my good hand!” 🤣😂
“Get A Life” was great. So was “Cabin Boy.”
I don't care what anyone says, I LOVE Cabin Boy to this day.
Aww, I like Cabin Boy. It's so weird and... well... weird. But that's what I like about it. I need to watch that again.
Cabin boy was hilarious... from what I remember when I was 11
THESE PIPES ARE CLEAN!!!
1:00 Any torrent link of this series pls?
His best work was on Letterman. Comedy gold.
I forgot all about Get a Life... I used to make my dad record every episode when I was like 5 or 6 because it came on at my bed time lol. But I watched the shit out of that show, Chris Elliott was so fuckin funny to me.
these pipes are clean!
So remember, kids: if you work hard, do the right thing and play by the rules, you damn well better hope you're related to or friends with someone if you want to be successful.
Abby Elliot is kind of a third generation SNL cast member; I remember seeing a clip of grandfather Bob Elliot singing a parody version of Rod Stewart's Do Ya Think I'm Sexy? as part of his duo Bob and Ray. I grew up with Get a Life!, but I never saw the alien episode! Also saw Cabin Boy; think as a Blockbuster rental. The whole family is funny!
I loved Cabin Boy. I legit said, "These pipes.... ARE CLEAN!" after I lost my virginity.
These pipes...are clean!
These pipes are clean!!!!!
I had no idea he was the son of Bob from Bob and Ray!
I live in the UK and only really know Chris from his movies. I thought he was brilliant in 'Mary.'
hes Very funny i always loved hes humour get a life was very funny it should of went longer then 2 seasons.
if you enjoy chris elliott's work, check out 'FDR: A One Man Show', absolutely hilarious.
Wouldn't Tim Meadows be the first 2nd Generation performer to appear on Saturday Night LIve? His father is Garret Morrison..
I am kind of surprised that he has never been cast as a serial killer. he has the look.
Elliot's comedic genius is truly underrated , BUT I think it required Letterman's comedic foil--it worked best in conjunction with Letterman there to laugh at him.
purple lightning, yea that's a good sign!
Most underrated comedian in Hollywood.
Long story short, he switched to TV and has been acting ever since.
He also voiced Dogbert in Dilbert
I only recognize that guy in Scary Movie 2..
One of those comedians that can get me to cry because I'm laughing so hard.
I still see him around. I wouldn't call him gone.
I've always liked him,,,to me he was pretty funny,,,especially in the movie 'SCARY MOVIE'...I thought he was hilarious,,, it's good to see him back on tv.....
he's in a new film that just played at Sundance.
You take that back! Cabin Boy is a gods damned work of genius! You Philistines wouldn't know comedy if it gave you a Cleveland Steamer!
this isn't the answer to "what REALLY happened to him?" so much as just a summary of his career
He can adapt. I thought his only odd appearance was the restaurant manager in _Nutty Professor 2_ ~ after Cletus Klump chokes on the beef, rips a fart that carries the flames off a birthday cake behind him and catches the curtains on fire, Elliot is there in a second with an extinguisher then tells everybody everything's under control.
*PS- Ahaha I just remembered I dressed up as "Hanson" for Halloween when Scary Movie 2 came out*
I love Chris Ellliot. Funny dude.
RIP Chris Elliott :(
Somebody's daddy is missing a leg, weird and funny line in Cabin boy.
You really can not say Schitt?
Cabin Boy is a cult classic. My roommates love to get wasted and watch it
