During the early morning light, Roger uses acrylics while sitting on the harbor dock to capture the light and reflections in the harbor. The painting is finished back in his studio where he demonstrates the use of color and value to create the distant look of trees and houses along the shore. Sarah talks with a lobersterman who has just come back from checking his traps.

The painting turned out beautiful. It’s good to have enough wisdom to know, when conditions have changed so drastically, you are better off finishing in the studio.

Yes, I do finish a lot of my paintings on location especially if I'm not filming but while filming after setting up cameras, etc. it just becomes a bit too much to do.

@@Bansemer I completely understand that. It’s very distracting trying to film while you’re trying to be creative at the same time. And it’s very time consuming. Hard to get your hand in there without the camera being in the way. You have to make a lot of changes in order to make a successful video. Whereas when you’re painting all by yourself in your own head you only have one thing to concentrate on.

I always believed cerulean blue to be warmer than ultramarine blue as it has yellow in it, no?

Roger what do you look for in a composition? I struggle with this endeavor

Hi Jay, For me it either hits me or it doesn't when I see a location. Sometimes I change things around but usually not very much. The main thing I'm looking for is a good and strong center of interest.
