If there's one thing I've learned from Defunctland, it's that nobody in Disney management has ever known what the public wants, and it usually bites them in the ass. They certainly deserve to feel stupid for putting this golden goose down.
And the funny part is that they could had got a lot of money made with "The Owl House". Everybody and their uncle wants Owl House merchandize, but for way I could find, Disney never produced any. All the Owl House merchandize that there's on sale is non official stuff.
When I consider the dumb stuff that can trend in twitter I don’t really blame disney that much. But still they probably shouldn’t have figured out some way to find out how popular it was before canceling it
@@jbcatz5 not only Gravity Falls, just look at what a huge power house Avatar is. And Nickelodeon also severely underestimated the pull of that show when first only greenlit the first Korra season (and only a short one at that). This decision was what ultimately caused the partially huge pacing and storytelling issues the show has, especially in the second season. I don't get why companies don't learn. Meanwhile we get one crappy and trashy show after another
even worse (according to a comment i read) it was 1 out of 27 executives who didnt approve of the owl house, so this one wretched person is responsible 💀
That is what happens when you have meetings over video chat and can't see the big picture because you are too worried about current profit loses then long term investment gains. Think of the money Disney would have gained if they worked with Lego or made official TOH merch, they wouldn't keep the King plushes stocked enough for a while.
If you all remember; season one actually did have episodes that didn't relate to the main story of the series, opting for a centralised story contained in that episode. This just means if they didn't cancel toh, forcing the series to hurry up and conclude, they would of had plenty of episodes to rerun like they wanted
Yeah, but most shows especially kids' shows, often opt for episodic stories to play it safe, get a fan base, and cement their place before risky things and making a big overarching story. Think Svtfoe, Miraculous ladybug, and even steven universe. Though some of them did make lore and major plot points most episodes in the early seasons were self-contained.
They show doesn't deserve that fate, it shouldn't be rushed to finished, it should get the care and dedication it deserves. Even if it is the final season, it shouldn't be 3 episodes long. That just, its like Disney is mocking the show by doing this, trying to push and rush the character growth, the story line, everything to be rushed in no more then 132 minutes
@@PichuStardust It made me so sad seeing the montage of the late summer/early fall and seeing how many bits would've made amazing individual episodes, like Luz's coming out and the gang researching how to get back to the Boiling Isles.
Disney should use this as a lesson. *Stay connected to the shows you support.* The fact Disney didn't notice how popular TOH really was is simply baffling
It's not that baffling. Disney, like most other corporations, is run by old white guys that are completely out of touch with what the common people want.
The silver lining is that this cements Dana as a proven show runner and will give her more opportunities in the future… perhaps not the owl house, but perhaps something else just as good if not better.
@@dedvi She's so young, too. I don't blame her for wanting to avoid that level of pressure. Still, I'm confident she'll thrive wherever she ends up next.
She said awhile ago she'd rather just turn the owl house into a comics series after this. If she can keep the rights. She also wanted to try using the beta concepts which was much more horror themed.
That's because kids like the shows older audiences usually don't like. And they think animations for kids. At the same time though, I feel it’s better not to unnecessarily drag a show out and ruin it like many shows have already. Dana made Disney regret a decision... let this sink in. Disney, the biggest animation company with billions of views, regret a decision. This not only shows how talented of a writer Dana Terrace is and how smart and how much she deserves her title but also that Disney messed up and being able to show this is outstanding. Edit: thank for 10k likes lol
I feel like a lot of people fail to realize the situation Disney was in during this time. The decision was made to shorten the third season during the midst of the pandemic. Disney was losing tons of money from their amusement parks shutting down, there had to be budget cuts to all of their DTVA shows, and streaming services (Which would have been more fit for shows like the Owl House due to viewers being guaranteed to see all the episodes) were just starting to take off. Season 1 of the Owl House had just started airing and it didn’t seem like it was going to be a particularly successful show at the time. Of course now we can look back and see that it likely would have been worth it to renegotiate the shows contracts to make it a Disney+ original, but that unfortunately wasn’t the case when the decision was made.
@@datguy1042 If that's true, then why not say that in the first place? Why come up with something like "we suddenly decided it didn't fit the Disney brand?" Dude, this is the same company that couldn't put their ego aside when *TREASURE PLANET* was being made. To me, disney execs can go rot in a shallow grave for ending an entire animation department's career just to make the brain child of two talented directors into a scapegoat.
A: most social media sights feed you content that aligns with things you are already interested in so don't take the quantity of stuff you see on the internet as an example of how widespread the knowledge of a show is. B: the target demographic for Disney was probably not the resulting demographic. C: sales of official Owl House branded products probably weren't as high as they hoped for.

The next best thing to getting an apology from the people who made the decision (without Dana's consent or request to the meeting as it's creator) is the admittance that they were in the wrong to make a "panic" decision on cancelling the series, via a much shorter final season than it deserved. And while Dana made a valid point in finding gratitude that they were at least willing to take a chance on her project and giving her the freedom to write what she wanted back then, I still feel like they need to learn from this experience to ensure they do not make a repeat of someone else's baby. At least with this it not only may open up new avenues for the series to expand or exist in a spinoff or graphic novel (assuming Dana is willing to pursue it before starting a new project), it also could mean other animators and writers will be given the benefit of the doubt for their work in the future. There are so many amazing storytellers and artists out there who deserve to freely create their work and share it with others so that they can experience it with future generations who would appreciate it too, and higher ups/execs of big companies like Disney are looked to like parents who they depend on to help support them in their endeavors.
The trouble is that a lot of Executives (in particular with kids or animated shows) think that the best kinds of shows are the ones where the main character is goofy or just plain stupid and with no on going plot. But they realise their mistake too late when we get shows with ongoing stories, world building and character development.
You'd think that they'd get a clue after seeing how legendary shows like ATLA and Gravity Falls became but NO. They have memory loss as well apparently.
Most big entertainment execs grew up before the 80s...so they were spoonfed saturday morning cartoons that often lacked continuity or deep thought, instead relying on slapstick. This is reflected in Chapek's policies of shutting down the more adult or story oriented cartoons on disney platforms, since he grew up in the 60s and early 70s where scooby-doo was the highest brow TV animation he had available.
I think a large part of it is that they want to appeal to conservatives as well.....and Owl House is VERY harsh on social conservatives (Belos is a puritan christian and a genocidal monster)
I hope TOH acts as a lesson to Disney and that they will be more willing to give serialised cartoons/cartoons with representation a chance in the future - and ofc we would have Dana to thank for that!!
I must admit, the representation has been shown phenomenally in TOH, but I still feel bad that many, if not all shows I have seen give a heavy focus on romance. What about people who are asexual, or aromantic? I mean, we have Lillith who is both, an aroace, but it just isn't the same. She's not a main character, and not exactly someone easy to associate with when you consider what she did at the beginning, so really not a good example 😢
@@peppycrossing2796 Me too. All this talk about representation, yet romance is still a heavy focus on everything. Not all people want romance. What's wrong with wanting just friendship? One of the many reasons why I loved Amphibia so much. It had a little romance here and there, but despite everything, the main focus was pure, precious friendship, which stayed that way despite much of the fandom shipping characters like crazy.
I think that it's super weird that they didn't want to have a serialised show to begin with. Gravity Falls was so successful that they wanted to give it a third season and it was built up very similar to TOH - first season being more random/episodic and second season starting to slowly becoming more serialised. They knew that this formula could work, already wanted to milk it before and yet decided to cut the serialised show by the same team short regardless?
I love how Disney’s target demographic with 7 to 12-year-olds and Disney CEO has gone on record saying that he doesn’t think cartoons are meant for adults but yet the show memory ended up being popular with meetings to adults because fuck yes it was it was an amazing show and still is

If they made a comic series off of it, like if the episodes and parts we never got to see were transformed into comics then I personally think that would more than likely get a lot of traction because of the amount of people that watch the owl house!
MoringMark is already on it lmao, they were on it from day one! Some official comics about the hexcrew on earth would be nice, but considering the amount of people who have already done such comics in the wait for season 3, as well as Dana's reluctance to work with Disney ever again, Eda's childhood with Lily and Raine would make for a much better comic series imo.

This news is both mildly annoying yet extremely hilarious, at the same time. I say "mildly annoying" because I can't believe it took the higher ups at Disney this long to realize they've made an error in judgement. This truly proves how stupid corporate greed is and how much it has destroyed the world
True, but better late than never. Honestly, if they rotted in their graves sooner than they realized that they made a mistake, I would not be surprised.
Exactly, since they want it both ways. They want this "family-friendly" appearance with this and the "live-action" Pinocchio remake on Disney+. Yet seem perfectly content with kids watching Marvel movies and pestering their parents for merch based on the MCU. Also, are you seriously going to tell me that COVID-19 was the cause of season 3 gutted. Please, Disney is the largest media conglomerate on the planet. Animation was literally their best possible bet at the time with social distancing in place. So what about their theme parks? It just seems like a cover story for the fact that they listened to the complaints of parents who called the series "too gay" as opposed to their fans. They couldn't edit out the LGBTQ+ themes either in English or if it was dubbed into another language without sounding awkward (ie they couldn't pull a "cousins" as DIC did for Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune for Sailor Moon). Companies don't care about it, any that do are lying to you. Companies only see us as a means to an end, nothing more and nothing less. To social engineer us into buying their shit or otherwise distract us from what's going on around us (along with the rest of Hollywood, TV, and especially Sports). Would you expect anything less from these suits? They sold part if not all of their souls to obtain the wealth they have now
Its crazy to me that Disney doesn't recognize its older audience when it comes to their shows. Also yeah I feel like Owl House has just been added the the list of shows that ended too soon, like Gravity Falls and Star Versus the Forces of Evil. Both of which are absolutely fantabulous shows that I miss oh so dearly.
I don't believe Gravity Falls was cut short, but they certainly had struggles getting some content approved and it's been a few years since I watched it, so I could be wrong about that. A third season wouldn't have been that hard to do, I just worry the pacing might not support it because I remember feeling pretty satisfied during my first watch through, other than Pacifica kinda falling off the radar immediately after her single-episode redemption arc. Star vs. the Forces of Evil is a mixed bag and I think it had 4 or 5 seasons which isn't terribly long but also not incredibly short. Whether you liked the ending or not it didn't feel super abrupt, so I don't know about that one either; maybe I just missed hearing about it being cancelled before they were ready. The Star/Marco shipping felt awkward and drawn out at times so I wouldn't have wanted more of that but the ending could've been more satisfying overall. I certainly would've loved spending more time with most of the side characters! 😊
@@DoveJS I’m pretty sure though Gravity Falls ended on its own terms. There are too many shows that go on past their freshness date, you can tell when they run out of ideas, and it becomes a bad experience by the end. It just sucks that it got cut off in its prime so we won't get to see a more leisurely story with extra character tidbits that probably had to be cut to further the main plot. I do not feel Dana would have dragged the story out personally, it wouldn't have ended up in a Fairy Tail situation where it doesn't know when to wrap up, but with 4 seasons and maybe a big special length finale I really think material could have been comfortably and succinctly covered. Idk I'm just incredibly bitter seeing how many storylines were axed because of it needing to condense and quickly wrap everything into 3 episodes. They could of, AT LEAST, not shoved everything into 40-50 minute episodes and actually just told the same story they did without adding anything and just made them 20 minutes, just like the rest. I feel like people would at least be less upset.
So frustrating that Disney didn't realize how amazing this show was going to be. I do hope we get more Owl House in some form going forward. It deserved to just run as many seasons as necessary to tell its story, but regardless, it is still amazing!
Most television shows are going to have either a very loyal fan base or a very broad fan base. The Owl House is one of those rare shows that has both, And it makes me seriously doubt the business credentials of any executive who can miss such a golden opportunity.
For the record, I'm pretty sure episodes relating to Amity, Gus, Willow, and Hunter adapting to the human realm (ex. beach episode, rafting, Amity and Luz dates) would've been episodic, which is Disney's formula. Which is ironic, because that is what fans are begging for right now. The stuff that was cut was probably going to be episodic and fans are actually disappointed that we missed it. Disney just lost tons of money.
Wrong. We were never getting that. Everything that was cut was Boiling Isles stuff. They're only in the human realm because of the Collector, who only exists because of the cut. We were never getting a full 3rd season in the human realm.
@@RavenStarMedia Even so, if Disney asked Dana to make more episodic stuff rather than serial episodes, she could've went this route as well. Has she ever revealed what the story would've been like without the Collector? I feel like Luz and Camila's relationship would've been severely underdeveloped without it. Especially since Luz's main concern throughout the 2nd half of season 2 is Camila.
@@Donirexian She hasn't totally revealed everything yet (probably because the show's not done-there's still things in the show's initial pitching that she hasn't shared yet because of spoilers to come). However, she did say all of the following were cut: -Hooty origin episode -a 2nd young Raeda episode -Luz's quincenera -Steve and Maltholemule bonding -Darius and Eberwolf bonding -a lot more expansion on the coven heads -a beach episode So there likely would have been more lore expansion and more slice of life bits, but the shortening forced them to re-do the plot and move the Day of Unity til the end of Season 2 rather than the end of Season 3.
@@RavenStarMedia To me, that still sounds like a lot of episodic plot. Even if it is lore expansion, a hooty origin episode and another Gus/Matholomule one doesn't sound like it would advance Belos' plot that much. I think my main point in my original comment still stands. Even if it isn't the main crew adapting to the human realm, we still would've gotten a bunch of episodic stuff that fans actually are wanting now. I still think it's hugely ironic that TOH team had to cut the kind of episodes Disney wants, and fans want too. Disney needs to learn that an overarching plot doesn't mean every episode will be the main focus of it. That's why there's always so called filler episodes in anime like Naruto and One Piece.

It's one thing to do it on Saturday morning before the games, but to trend on a Saturday night while a number of big games were still being played is pretty impressive. Especially when there were a ton of close games that day featuring top teams. That absolutely had to catch the execs attention.
I knew this was going to happen when I learned they cut the show short due to its serialized nature. They'd see that the show is actually really popular, and they'd be like "Aw shit, we missed out on so much money."

I don't think I can honestly ever forgive the decision to cancel this show when it had a whole season planned we never got. It's literally the only tv series I genuinely enjoyed and felt connected with. I've cried profusely and violently several times today as I just saw the final episode. Something about watching that last episode made it really sink in that it was over. I'll forever miss the magic that this show's heart and soul bought to my life. My heart hurts and I'm crying again now.
I hope this makes Disney realize that giving creative, character focus shows a chance is worth it. We'll never get to see what the owl house would have looked like without these limitations, but maybe I'm happy with what we got and I know Dana and the crew are giving us the best season 3 they can. who knows? maybe we'll get that golden guard spin off, or a young eda spin off. maybe now shows like the owl house won't have to fight so hard to just get a chance.
Original ideas will always have to fight for a place in the corporate world. Corpos don't care about art, they want short-term profits; this makes them extremely risk-averse and completely incapable of understanding the idea of building a fanbase. They don't want a group of 100 000 fans following the story for decades, they want a group of 10 million normies consuming the product for a month.
@@faithnorthrup3662 Personally tho, i'd really like to see more detail into whats in the montages from the beginning of s3 e1. they wanted to make a whole episode on each of those little clips.
I’m not a huge fan of the owl house, no particular reason just couldn’t get into it, but I can see why it’s doing so well. The animation is really well done, the characters are pretty diverse in their personalities, and the music and writing also seems really well done. The show deserves the admiration it’s getting from the fans and it’s nice to see Disney is finally acknowledging that
I personally wasn't that into it when I first watched a couple eps from the 1st season (which had to do with the aspects Disney pushed for, Harry Potter-esque school, etc.) but The 2nd season completely altered my perspective and showed me how good the writers actually were. And they are REALLY good, especially when it comes to creating character relationships and dynamics. And this was done with the knowledge they were being cancelled, which is doubly impressive to me. Disney seriously messed up and I hope this makes them give new show ideas the consideration and room they need to grow.
@@Bubbafanforever Personally I got hooked at the finale episodes of season 1, and rewatching the first season gives me a whole new appreciation for the humble beginnings of the show. First time watching though, I really found it annoying how direct and cheesey the messages were, so I totally get where you're coming from.
This is the best show they’ve ever had. The animation styles are fantástico, the world building is incredible, and it’s WAAAAAAAY more emotional. Hell it’s even darker than Gravity Falls, and that’s saying something! Owl House is their most phenomenal masterpiece and it will be EXTREMELY hard to top it.
Owl house> every Disney show. I also noticed that Disney is only using princeses that are old like Snow White. They just changed the skin tone/race of her and called it a day instead of making a new princess
Considering what's happened to so many cartoons on networks channel, I'm pretty sure things would have been worse if the owl house got picked up by Nickelodeon. It's still gotten unfortunate turn of events with the Disney channel, but they're pretty much the lesser of two evils
Imagine what’d happen if it were picked up by Cartoon Network/HBO max. It might’ve gotten the same treatment as Infinity Train. (For those out of the loop, that is not a good thing. Infinity Train got majorly shafted recently.)
Disney making rash decisions and then going "wait, this show was actually a gold mine and we completely ruined it for no reason? Oh nooooo" is pretty much tradition at this point with these cartoons.
Honestly as much as I love the owl house I really don't want comics or any other third wave canon stuff. After the way Disney pulled the plug with there idiocy I want them to have to deal with the fact that they fucked up and keep fucking up.
And people are wondering why anime is literally exploding in popularity these days. The demand for animated stories, in the very wide range that anime offers, is so huge that its burning out the talent at unprecedented rates. There are just sooo many kinds of stories that can be told only, or better in an animated form (image One Piece done in real world style cgi, it just wouldnt work)
@@thomasallen9974 THIS. This is the exact reason I started watching anime, for YEARS I could never get into anime, but because of gravity falls, the owl house, amphibia, and to a lesser extent the ghost and Molly McGee made me realize I really enjoy watching animated stories. Because western companies weren't making that much animated stuff like TOH, Amphibia etc I started watching anime
@@thomasallen9974 You're spitting facts. I've always that anime was incredibly powerful for the wide variety of stories and topics it could explore with now demographic bounds. It showed me that animation is a MEDIUM not a genre, like the West sees often sees it. But with shows like Castlevania, Invincible, and Arcane being insanely popular without falling into the realm of "kids cartoon" or "adult cartoon" (I hate these with a passion), and shows like Amphibia and The Owl House appealing to both young and older audiences, I have more hope.
@@Zman201 Though in my opinion anime tend to have the opposite problem in that shows tends to be ludicrously long for absolutely no reason. To the point that there is absolutely no way I could finish certain shows in a reasonable amount of time, so in a way I actually prefer that Western animated shows tends to be shorter as I think the pacing as a result tends to be better. That being said I definitely would want more Owl House as it is probably my favorite animated show in like a decade. But not so much more about it starts approaching 1000 episodes.
This show is just astounding. Seeing everyone in the human realm just hanging out actually almost made me cry, and then they already left. The characters are just absolutely addictive. I can confidently say that that season in that style would have been my favorite thing Disney has ever created. Rest in Peace Owl House, you will be missed.
I'm still bummed that season 3 got cut short, as well as angry at the executive's words of choice for cutting the season short, but hearing that the executives are now realizing they've made a huge mistake makes me feel better. Justice!
I was goin to say, the episode release on UA-cam was overwhelmingly large. just as large as the first episode released years earlier. When Disney executives saw that they went "Oh sh!t. we messed up on a cash cow." and I'm honestly geninuly happy that Dana and crew were able to show, with only a limited time and constant pushback and refusals, to go all in and make the worst situation one of the most impactful to hundreds of thousands to even millions.
Another idea is to have a spin-off on Vee from her time in the Boiling Isles, to her time in summer camp, then to Luz and her friends arrival to the human world.
Serves Disney right; I'm glad TOH and Dana got the recognition they deserved and others saw how great of a show it is. The future for Dana looks bright so I'm truly glad for her; who knows, maybe TOH will return in another form (fingers crossed) 😀
I'm so happy that Disney finally realised just how much love this show has gotten from audiences. While there's no hope for the show continuing beyond season 3, this realisation should hopefully mean some other form of content for The Owl House sometime in the future. It's just a shame that so many amazing shows (Ducktales, The Owl House, RotTMNT) are being cancelled because executives have no idea how to market a show or what the public want, etc. etc.
And it might (MIGHT) also mean that, maybe just maybe, for shows in the future they’ll stop and look around for a little bit longer before choosing what to keep and what to cancel
Short Version: 1. Upset and Angry because of crammed 3rd season 2. The other two ended on good times Amphibia could have gone one well for another season. They could have explored the country's history more. Ducktales ended at a good time. I want more of course, but Ducktales still did good and they didn't draw it out until it got boring. I can hardly stand what they did to The Owl House though! It was also a GOOD SHOW. I can't stand how they CRAMMED way TOO MUCH into that 40 minute 1st 3rd season episode, though I was still happy for it. I also found it to be too dark though. It deserved a good 4 episodes at least for the "human world part", with Hunter's transformation and everyone interacting with the human world. Thanks to this video I now get that Disney only wants non-story line shows though.
@@ShadeandShadow4ever The darkness of the special surprised me. Some moments were quite intense and caught me off guard. But that makes a bigger impact IMO
To me, the strength of the show--the reason I love it--is because of the feeling of Eda, Luz, and King as a found family that genuinely care about and look out for each other.
Yep, there's definitely a silver lining to this whole thing now! Before their realization that the show was actually popular and successful after all, Disney was most likely NOT interested in continuing the franchise in any way whatsoever. But now, since it's too late to continue the main show, I'll bet dollars to donuts that they're much more open to continue it in other ways now. How they do that we'll have to see, but I think this franchise isn't over just yet 😁
For real. If they put more effort into connecting with their consumers than they'd actually know how to get more money from them. Instead of cancelling an insanely popular show.
Here is a fun thing. Notice how "Thanks to Them" pretty much starts months after "King's Tide". I don't think it would be impossible for us to get like a 'Season 3.1' where they have episodes such as 'the beach episode' and episodes similar to what Amphibia did for the first part of its 3rd season with the human world culture shock.
We wouldn't have got that though. Everything cut, beach episode included, was Boiling Isles related. The Day of Unity was fast-tracked to the Season 2 finale after the cut instead of the Season 3 finale like they originally likely planned,
Now that Disney understands the wrought behind its blunder, it can make better decisions in the future. Though a slim chance, we could be getting a spin-off for the show to make up for these unethical transgressions.
After cementing the short-lived length of Season 3 and dealing with much very well-deserved anger towards them, you can only imagine the conversation in the Exec room: "Well, it seems we were wrong lol." "Yeah, we couldn't admit this _before_ the damage was done, but now that we've already gotten our way let's just call it an 'oopsie' and move on as if nothing happened." "The public will see it, think 'Oh wow, they admitted it! We're happy now,' and move on even though nothing's changed!" In other words, had they admitted this before cutting S3 short, maybe I'd care. But as they've already gotten their way and aren't going to fix it (obviously), I honestly could not care less and it does not merit their forgiveness. But that's just my two cents. Maybe if they actually did something productive then they could earn it, but if there was any faith in them it's long gone by now.
I am glad that Disney finally admitted to their HUGE mistake, but wish it was much earlier instead. Here hoping for the future for these beloved charecters! I watched it on their channel here on UA-cam, so if I helped it in any way, I'm glad!
fr! even if it is the 11 minute episodes as long as it has good writing and funny moments i would love to see a bit of worry but also fun and excitement.
I really hope that there’s a spin-off series, maybe about Eda or even maybe about Philip and Caleb originally going to the boiling isles, we have enough now to know what happened but we don’t really know what happened with the build up… it’s be pretty cool to get any kind of spin-off of the owl house in general though
its weird to me that the reason they didnt like the show is that it didnt appeal to their arbitrarily decided demo of young kids... when literally all they had to do is realize that its a great show for older kids. i guess its an 'old tv' thing to decide who your show is for before its even made, but today with streaming and all that its easier for ANY kind of person to find your show. seems like itd make more sense to just put the thing out and then wait and see who actually gets interested, then you can start determining your target demographic based on the people that are actually watching.
@@catbatrat1760 Look, I know it is a risk because of ad revenue, but what if people made the episode, had a small viewing (to determine which audience it's best for), and then advertised it with who liked it best, then made deals with ad companies. I’d love to see the scrapbook be turned into episodes after the show ends. Like a spin-off of the series a few years after the main storyline and then they go into detail about their time on Earth and then that’s when they’ll go into depth about every moment that they did in the human realm that’s on the scrapbook. Then, who knows we get some new storyline along with the spin-off as well
I do wonder how a spin off about young Eda would end. Being a prequel it has some restrictions. For example she won't be able to break her curse or get the level of management she has today. Granted she could discover those potions.
Hell yeah; bring back the Titan Hunters; introduce more Titan islands, etc. Turn Jacob Hopkins, the human conspiracy theorist, into a still-quirky but legitimate threat. SO many avenues.
They really should. There was SO SO MUCH content possible, and if there is ever another special I think this is an avenue that needs to be explored in great detail because there is so much we were robbed of! I think it's the least Disney can do.
I agree. one of my favorite parts of the owl house was watching every witch get so confused with anything human. at the end of season two i got excited seeing as they were in the human realm, but as expected disney disappoints
something important is the fact that the fact they have recognized the popularity of the owl house may actually help future series of this style (this lore-fulled teen with a little more serious moments than the usual series trend that gravity falls started that amphibia and TOH followed in their own ways) to be able to grow without so many obstacles that disney usually gives to them *cof cof, dumb censorship, cof*
Honestly I would love to get a series set 10 - 20 years after the show. They could show what happened to everyone after the show, some episodic adventures with new character (to appease the great and terrible mouse), maybe even have a new villian like the agents from Amphibia.
I'm avoiding Owl House season 3 spoilers, but I decided to watch this video anyways. I was not expecting to see this at 1:51. I'm bisexual and seeing this nearly made me cry. The amount of joy that washed over me was overwhelming and amazing.
I've always wondered why shows which grow genuinely popular from taking unique approaches, outright risks or are simply enjoyed and appreciated are often canned or scarcely shown in favour for other shows which, honestly, don't. It's not exactly something that drives me up the wall, but it always really confuses me, especially since if it's about money one could just see how popular it is and act on that.
@@Montesama314 There's money to be saved, but I doubt that there's money to be made on cheap shows. People only buy merchandize of media that is good and complex enough for them to want to expand their experience of the show.

Think of the money Disney would have gained if they worked with Lego or made official TOH merch, they wouldn't keep the King plushes stocked enough for a while.
If you all remember; season one actually did have episodes that didn't relate to the main story of the series, opting for a centralised story contained in that episode. I personally liked that pretty much every episode had something to contribute to the main story line.
Why come up with something like "we suddenly decided it didn't fit the Disney brand?" No, R E A L L Y ?

They want to be able to run reruns endlessly without worrying about ongoing plots.
So you're saying there's a chance.
There's Dragon Strikers coming, so that's a good sign. Although it's on Disney+ rather than Channel.
@@lulystalgianature2968 big agree there. I hope for some more cartoons with ace/aro rep in the future!!

Some official comics about the hexcrew on earth would be nice, but considering the amount of people who have already done such comics in the wait for season 3, as well as Dana's reluctance to work with Disney ever again, Eda's childhood with Lily and Raine would make for a much better comic series imo.

Yeah that’s the odd part.
Yet they’re okay putting out PG and PG-13 films

And I agree, I'm glad the Owl House won't get milked either! _“You could not live with your own failure. Where did that bring you? Back to me.”_
This is what they should do as the spin off series
However, she did say all of the following were cut:
-Hooty origin episode
-a 2nd young Raeda episode
-Luz's quincenera
-Steve and Maltholemule bonding
-Darius and Eberwolf bonding
-a lot more expansion on the coven heads
-a beach episode
So there likely would have been more lore expansion and more slice of life bits, but the shortening forced them to re-do the plot and move the Day of Unity til the end of Season 2 rather than the end of Season 3.

Maybe we will get a spinoff off story about Caleb and Evelyn. Oh, and maybe, perhaps, we’ll see it from Caleb’s point of view.
Honestly I'd rather take something completely different than a spinoff. As in let ghosts rest rather than try to make it fit after digging it up.
@@CS_Mango Eh, it could be there for the people who do want the spinoffs.
The show deserves the admiration it’s getting from the fans and it’s nice to see Disney is finally acknowledging that
There's nothing wrong with not liking something if you are civil about it like you were.
It really only got good in season two
@@Bubbafanforever Personally I got hooked at the finale episodes of season 1, and rewatching the first season gives me a whole new appreciation for the humble beginnings of the show. First time watching though, I really found it annoying how direct and cheesey the messages were, so I totally get where you're coming from.
I enjoyed it because it kind of gave my Gravity Falls vibes
Kasrium greeting us in the beginning and King popping out of the cake synced up so well wow.
I'll hoping for either an Owl House spinoff or The Owl House Movie!!! Which one sounds better?
personally i'd like a spinoff! maybe something following eda as a kid, or luz and friends in their adult lives.
im hoping for the witches time in the human realm as it was clearly supposed to be a part of season 3
@@PurgatoryProductions1 hear me out:a Vee spinoff
@@onecoolguy9499 YES
Spinoff of VEE in the Human Realm (and occasional visits to The Boiling Isles to see Luz & Co.) Or an Eda Hexside prequel series.
I'm going to grammar n@zi you for a few seconds and say it's "fantásticos" with an s because the noun is plural 😂
Owl house> every Disney show.
I also noticed that Disney is only using princeses that are old like Snow White. They just changed the skin tone/race of her and called it a day instead of making a new princess
Yeah. Canceling it is Disney's BIGGEST mistake. And it was a stupid one that should NEVER have been ALLOWED to happen in the first place.
Exactly! They just kicked an amazing series to the curb
A comic series detailing all the adventures the kids had in the human realm would be nice.
Considering what's happened to so many cartoons on networks channel, I'm pretty sure things would have been worse if the owl house got picked up by Nickelodeon. It's still gotten unfortunate turn of events with the Disney channel, but they're pretty much the lesser of two evils
imagine the "spongebob experience" applied to owl hosue
Even if it’s not a show, maybe a comic could work
Serves Disney right; I'm glad TOH and Dana got the recognition they deserved and others saw how great of a show it is.
It's just a shame that so many amazing shows (Ducktales, The Owl House, RotTMNT) are being cancelled because executives have no idea how to market a show or what the public want, etc. etc.
Always end a season with some form of resolution, because nothing is ever a guarantee
Cry harder
And it might (MIGHT) also mean that, maybe just maybe, for shows in the future they’ll stop and look around for a little bit longer before choosing what to keep and what to cancel
Short Version:
1. Upset and Angry because of crammed 3rd season
2. The other two ended on good times
Amphibia could have gone one well for another season.
I'm screaming "I TOLD YOU SO, DISNEY!" right now. ToH could've made them billions but they threw that opportunity away in a panick, lol.
I say spin off Dana was open to a spin off so we shall see
What's a donut?
They probably won't bother continuing it.
EDIT: grammar
I would love to see graphic novels to flesh out the story. Its absolutely awful that Disney cut these guys short
It's insane to see how disconnected these big companies are from their consumers, but never disconnected from the money they pull in.
For real. If they put more effort into connecting with their consumers than they'd actually know how to get more money from them. Instead of cancelling an insanely popular show.
Here is a fun thing. Notice how "Thanks to Them" pretty much starts months after "King's Tide". I don't think it would be impossible for us to get like a 'Season 3.1' where they have episodes such as 'the beach episode' and episodes similar to what Amphibia did for the first part of its 3rd season with the human world culture shock.
they can easy, I would just call it 2.5.
We wouldn't have got that though. Everything cut, beach episode included, was Boiling Isles related. The Day of Unity was fast-tracked to the Season 2 finale after the cut instead of the Season 3 finale like they originally likely planned,
.
@@RavenStarMedia Well, we could get it now.
She got Disney to essentially admit they were wrong! Dana is an absolute mad lass and I love her.
Now that Disney understands the wrought behind its blunder, it can make better decisions in the future. Though a slim chance, we could be getting a spin-off for the show to make up for these unethical transgressions.
I hope disney keeps making bad decisions so they keep losing money ❤️
@@clubkiddxx fuck disney broooooooo
YES! Unethical, IMMORAL, STUPID transgressions brought on by DICKHEADS who deserve NOTHING but bad things in their life
I think you're vastly overestimating the abilities of the average corporate executive to learn and grow from mistakes
We're happy now,' and move on even though nothing's changed!"
In other words, had they admitted this before cutting S3 short, maybe I'd care. But as they've already gotten their way and aren't going to fix it (obviously), I honestly could not care less and it does not merit their forgiveness. But that's just my two cents. Maybe if they actually did something productive then they could earn it, but if there was any faith in them it's long gone by now.
oh boy,if they call it an oopsie, the internet is gonna eat them alive
@@bigmanhawkastro They pretty much did if their response was like "Oh no, the show is actually successful." lol
@@josiecroix point is ,internet is not gonna forgive this incident

Best bet is a comic series or maybe even shorts
6 MORE EPISODES! 6 EPISODES! A hour long this show deserves it
A mini series about their time in the human realm would be so cool, I'd love to see the (montage (and) scrapbook moments in motion.✨
fr! even if it is the 11 minute episodes as long as it has good writing and funny moments i would love to see a bit of worry but also fun and excitement.
Yeah, but that would arguably be considered a risk, which puts just about any executive's tail between their legs.
@@catbatrat1760 Look, I know it is a risk because of ad revenue, but what if people made the episode, had a small viewing (to determine which audience it's best for), and then advertised it with who liked it best, then made deals with ad companies. I mean, all members of Disney cooperate already sold their souls and blood. What's a little cash, right? I'm not trying to argue with you. I want to know if this idea is probable and to throw a couple of little digs at Disney. However, if this idea works, but Disney won't do it, I think I'll start making changes in my plan for the future and try to create my own network with even more animated shows that appeal to multiple groups. I apologize for the small mini-rant today.
@@catbatrat1760 Where's the risk though?
When a show is good I tell my friends about it.
Do people actually pay attention to ads? Maybe a little, but I really question if they're as impactful these days as they may have once been.
Over saturation and all.
Remember how Teen Titans and Young Justice got canned because too many girls like it?
@@Appletank8 .........what?
Please tell me this is isn't actually proven. Please tell me they didn't do something THAT dumb.
I’d love to see the scrapbook be turned into episodes after the show ends. Like a spin-off of the series a few years after the main storyline and then they go into detail about their time on Earth and then that’s when they’ll go into depth about every moment that they did in the human realm that’s on the scrapbook. Then, who knows we get some new storyline along with the spin-off as well
Omg yes!! We get our 20 more adventures without it being weird and out of place! Some of them could even be flashbacks to the boiling Isles!!!!
I do wonder how a spin off about young Eda would end. Being a prequel it has some restrictions. For example she won't be able to break her curse or get the level of management she has today. Granted she could discover those potions.
I do like the idea of a young eda show but I also want a sequel show where Luz is training human witches and the boiling isles has new threats etc.
Hell yeah; bring back the Titan Hunters; introduce more Titan islands, etc. Turn Jacob Hopkins, the human conspiracy theorist, into a still-quirky but legitimate threat. SO many avenues.
They should make a 10-episode special that fills in the time between the gang going to the human realm and season 3
omg
they should!
I wish disney would make rides and attractions based of their animated shows at their parks
something important is the fact that the fact they have recognized the popularity of the owl house may actually help future series of this style (this lore-fulled teen with a little more serious moments than the usual series trend that gravity falls started that amphibia and TOH followed in their own ways) to be able to grow without so many obstacles that disney usually gives to them
*cof cof, dumb censorship, cof*
Honestly I would love to get a series set 10 - 20 years after the show.
They could show what happened to everyone after the show, some episodic adventures with new character (to appease the great and terrible mouse), maybe even have a new villian like the agents from Amphibia.
Can I just say, thank you for getting this out here?
I've been having a rough couple of days and needed some good news
I'm avoiding Owl House season 3 spoilers, but I decided to watch this video anyways. I was not expecting to see this at 1:51. I'm bisexual and seeing this nearly made me cry. The amount of joy that washed over me was overwhelming and amazing.
There's a lil canonical lesbian Amity snuck into the episode too :)
I think the people making decisions are just that out of touch with reality tbh
risk aversion is a prime motivator is many business decisions
@@Montesama314 There's money to be saved, but I doubt that there's money to be made on cheap shows. People only buy merchandize of media that is good and complex enough for them to want to expand their experience of the show.

Me too, I want more of the main series ):
Nah abandon all hope on that happening.
I only wish. I hope they learn never to.underestimate their audience again.

But I thought they finnish animating the third season and is just waiting for next year, right?
it genuinely makes me so upset that the show was cancelled and shortened. i will genuinly cry for years once its finished, it will feel like something has literally been ripped from my soul. i will always have some tiny hope that disney will ask Dana to pick it up again, although i know this wont really happen.
