The most annoying thing about Rachel is that the show showcased that she was the only one with dreams she’d do anything to accomplish. Santana wanted to be famous, Mr.Shue wanted to inspire students, Sue wanted to better the school, Kurt wanted to excel in theatre and fashion, Mercedes wanted to be a pop star, Blaine wanted to sing and be happy with a family, Quinn wanted to have an ideal family, popularity, Artie wanted to be a director, Tina wanted a bf and sing, Mike wanted to be a dancer, Brittany wanted to be a dancer, Sam wanted to be happy and fit in, Finn wanted to make his parents (more his dad) proud and Puck wanted to be nothing like his dad. All of these characters succeeded in less time than Rachel. The only episode that shows Rachel’s dream is the last episode while every side character had seasons upon seasons with their dreams and they managed to do it without needing to be a diva or being a narcissist.

Exactly, Rachel saw her friends as competitors that's why when Santana auditioned as her understudy she must've thought that Santana must be trying to steal the role from her
I actually don't think so, she may see everyone round her as competition sometimes, but she is the kind of person that needs people, she may be horrible to them, but she wouldn't abandon them either. She needs reassurance, someone who will soothe her insecurities, and I do think that she is attached to some of the characters like Kurt or Mr. Shoe, and obviously she really loved Finn, even if they had a toxic relationship at times and she did many wrong things. It makes her dynamics with people toxic, but she needs them.
I wasn't surprised about her being rude but I was surprised about her being racist. I've heard that Rachel Berry was actually based of Lea's personality in real life. Rachel was more a self-absorbed diva who was so focused on herself that she didn't stop to think about the consequences her actions had on others; and less of a bully who genuinely wanted to hurt people.
Rebecca the POCs in the cast also outed her for racist behaviour. She was also a complete diva - no one was allowed to look her in the eye on set, and she referred to the extras as “cockroaches”

I’ve never watched Glee but based on how Gleeks talk about her, I always thought she was the villain? Or at least an annoying side-character. I’m still having trouble believing she’s the main character.
BAHAHA she is one of the main characters, but she does a lot of horrible things that are sometimes worse than what the actual villains do. She has a killer voice though, and because Lea Michele wasn't much different in character than Rachel, that's probably why she got so much of the show to herself.
Glee fans are like sheeps. When one of them have a opinion all of them have the same opinion. Sue, Santana, Puck, Quinn all made horrible things. Crimes!!! Sue pushed people down the stairs, she was racist and homophobic multiple times. Rachel was fine, people just hate her because everyone does. But if you watch the show you will see people constantly humiliating her in front of the whole school. It was sad, she just want to be popular.

I feel like they were kinda trying to make Rachel relatable in a way that she was a "loser" or like an outcast from the school, (to relate to kids who aren't very popular) and they tried to make us feel bad for her because nobody liked her, but sometimes I also think they're making her annoying/unlikeable on purpose to show that there are actual reasons why people are disliked. Like how Rachel is kinda annoying and spoiled, and she storms out of Glee club sometimes if she doesn't get what she eants, and someone else gets a solo for once (in the first season at least). I feel like the show was making stereotyped characters, but then they put a twist on them. For example, Noah was the "badboy" stereotype (I think) and he got his best friends girlfriend pregnant. Usually people would assume that he wouldn't care, because or stereotypes, but instead he wanted to help Quinn and the baby and did help.
i like this point a lot! rachel is basically the “lovable loser” archetype flipped. she’s “unlovable” but still has the arc of an underdog, making her root-able
Xeoney, Yeah. It always confused me as to why they made her the main protagonist in the show. I always found her so up relatable that I found just about EVERY other character easier to relate to. I always found her behavior towards her “friends” to be deplorable and something I vowed I’d never do to my friends. The writers try to justify her actions but they failed. Her actions are absolutely disgusting to me. Really her only good quality is her dancing and singing skills.
she's also totally not relatable because that level of talent and hard work? EXTREMELY rare to hear a high schooler - especially a sophomore - sing like that. But she's far from perfect because she is sooooo fucking annoying
Normally I always favor the “mean girl” in such rolls because I think they’re witty, dramatic, and funny (ie Regina George, Madison Montgomery, etc). But I actually couldn’t stand this character and then finding out majority of the cast didn’t either OUTSIDE of filming is just icing on the cake
Because thise other mean girls never thought of themselves as the outcast underdogs. That's what the difference between "delightfully bitchy" and "insufferablely self absorbed" is. Is your mean girl turning around and monologing how no one understands and appreciates her or how easy everyone is to step on. One makes the audience want to stab them, the other makes the audience want to quote them.
Well she sure is the new version of the "nice girl" someone who pretends to be nice and sweet to get what they want, but then, when they don't get their way, will throw a tantrum and moan about how the world isn't fair and how everyone else is the problem. 😑
She (getting out my list)... Treated Kurt like crap or a pet when needed Was RACIST to... Everyone not white Played a Latino but said it wasn't right for Santana to play Fanny Was HOMOPHOBIC to... Everyone in the LGBTQ+ community that she knew Treated Tina like crap Sent Sunshine to a *crackhouse* and "made up for it" by telling her that she was a good singer Kissed Finn, Puck, Jesse, Brody, Sam, Blaine and called *Santana* a shot Quit NYADA cos she thought she was above hard work Shouted at Kurt for him saying that she could stay at NYADA and leaving him alone before he was beaten up (I know she didn't know that would happen but another guy had been gay bashed near them so she should have been there in case they showed up) That is only part of my list.Rachel was *not* the good person they tried to make her look like
Her expressions are SO INTENSE! You can see the temper tantrums she's throwing in her facial reactions when they tell her that she's basically being crazy about shit
“ I’m not homophobic in fact i have to gay dads” is another version of “I’m not racist I have black friends “ Edit: I’m NOT SAYING that Rachel herself is homophobic I’m saying the phrase is similar to that phrase that’s it. She has two gay dads and her best friend and roommate is gay so how could she be homophobic
Santana should have been the star of the show .. the main character.. she was so much more entertaining and just soooo much nicer to look at 😍 she was so so STUNNING and BEAUTIFUL 😞
Totally agree with that except for being nicer to look at as a good reason. I guess you were joking there :D Besides, it would miss the point of it in Glee - to have the girl with the big nose being successful in an industry that's too driven by appearances.
@@analaforet6498 ironically tho, the girl w the perfect face and body (santana) ends up being more redeemable than the girl w the big nose. I wonder if the writers ever realized that
let’s get jung honestly it would have been goals if both Santana and Kurt were the main characters, imagine if it was about two best friends who are both also gay in Ohio making it to NY, it would have been great
Why did the writers give her such a great life with no consequences. Like they let her treat people like crap. They should’ve had her have some sort of struggle when she graduated, to show her it’s hard to make it in the real world. But no she just had everything handed to her, they could’ve had her character develop throughout collage. But no she marched around being rude and at the end got an amazing ending, winning a Tony.
I love how she actually works for her own goals... but I really can't stand her character at all lol she is just too funny sometimes 5:06 this right here is what we all wanted to say to her
Dominic Everything I liked that the show intended to make the main character nice girl ambitious like Sharpay, but I never liked her because she always annoyed me and was horrible to everyone in the Glee Club. When I rewatched the show as an adult, I hated how she lied and said the original Glee Club teacher had an affair to get him fired (I know she wanted a part, but that could've ruined his life) and went after Finn while he had a girlfriend. I know Finn was likable (I had a crush on him, too) and Quinn was portrayed as a bully, but that doesn't make it okay to try to steal her boyfriend. The show portrayed her as a victim of bullying, even though she was usually the bully.
@@Mancalashawty one of the actors, I think Sameya? Responded to a post Lea made about support for George Floyd. The response was basically 'Remember when you told people you'd gladly shit in my wig?' Wish I was really surprised but I remember when Amber riley mentioned that she tended to not get her singing chops mentioned and she implied it was because of a costar. 🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️

I dont think shes racist. i just think she’s a diva, a bully, and arrogant. she was rude to the crew and extras regardless of race. lea’s a lot of things but i don’t think racist.
People fail to realize the point of Rachel's character is that she isn't always likable...the first scene we get with her is a monologue in which she lies about a teacher to get her way. The show is a satire on high school sitcoms/formats. It works. Glee is supposed to be the opposite of normal.....when I see all of these videos on youtube saying Glee is bad most of the justification comes from a lack of understanding the show doesn't take itself seriously at ALL, and its making fun of your taste in stereotypical television/movie tropes.
True that is how the show and the character work but the problem is that Rachel get away with everything it didn’t matter what she did she never saw any repercussions which just murder any likeness must viewers could find in her
I mean... really though? Sometimes there was just bad writing honestly. While it might’ve been intended as satire at first, it drifted into drama territory quite fast and Rachel in NY was definitely not just satire. Santana’s coming out. Kut’s love life. Quinn in labor. Finn’s death. The coach’s sexuality. And it was this odd mix of serious and “satire” that I personally often got confused. “here’s a satirical take on gays but also Kurt’s dad is super sick and let’s talk real serious about religion”. also “the kid in the wheelchair dreams of not being in a wheel chair but he starts to feel better as he teaches Quinn how to be in a wheel chair hell yea you can live a full life, but lol jk Quinn is fine and Arty is still alone let’s never talk about it again”... it gave me whiplash sometimes. And when you start to view the show in this tomalley confused light Rachel Berry is just the most obnoxious character, because in the serous scenes she seems serious. But she’s still a freaking whiny bitch
Rachel: *gets sandy ryerson fired for an inappropriate student-teacher relationship* Also Rachel: *stalks will, buys him creepy gifts, and sings him a love song*
If you actually appreciated the show's humor and storyline, you would realise she's one of the best. None of the Glee characters were meant to be likeable and all of their flaws were meant for comedic purposes, including Rachel being annoying and her obsession for solos. If you think of her as worst character, you never really understood the show
Melody Smith that’s better than constantly insulting people like Santana did , or trying to get child services to separate a mother and child like Quinn did
@Melody Smith That was part of her dream, she wanted this more than all of them.It was selfish, but that was part of her character Rachel was meant to be annoying and selfish, Santana was meant to be a bully, Quinn was meant to be obsessed with popularity.Using those flaws that writers clearly wanted them to have and calling them worst characters cause of it is honestly stupid

i feel sorry for the actors trying to understand if she's still acting on set
Great point
i like this point a lot! rachel is basically the “lovable loser” archetype flipped. she’s “unlovable” but still has the arc of an underdog, making her root-able
Nova Moore I think they made her the protagonist because she has the best voice.

Ok but she didn't lie though. Sandy WAS molesting that student.
@@anhnguyenquang4456 carressing him!
True that is how the show and the character work but the problem is that Rachel get away with everything it didn’t matter what she did she never saw any repercussions which just murder any likeness must viewers could find in her
we get that, we still don't like her
I mean... really though?
When Jane Lynch came in and said Shut up it gets me every time
Rachel: *gets sandy ryerson fired for an inappropriate student-teacher relationship*
Also Rachel: *stalks will, buys him creepy gifts, and sings him a love song*

Ivan Lee yeah lol but that means she is a great actress thats why we hated the character
If you actually appreciated the show's humor and storyline, you would realise she's one of the best.
None of the Glee characters were meant to be likeable and all of their flaws were meant for comedic purposes, including Rachel being annoying and her obsession for solos. If you think of her as worst character, you never really understood the show
Melody Smith that’s better than constantly insulting people like Santana did , or trying to get child services to separate a mother and child like Quinn did
@Melody Smith That was part of her dream, she wanted this more than all of them.It was selfish, but that was part of her character
Rachel was meant to be annoying and selfish, Santana was meant to be a bully, Quinn was meant to be obsessed with popularity.Using those flaws that writers clearly wanted them to have and calling them worst characters cause of it is honestly stupid
Melody Smith it’s so obvious that people who don’t like her cos “ she always had to be the center of attention” don’t appreciate the nuance of a flawed main character
Ok but idk why people actually liked her character
