Im 40y old now and I still get goose bumps all over when I hear the peak in this tune. Takes me back to my golden days at Twilo, Limelight, Cream, not a care in the world, no politics or bullshit, just a massive, dark place with lasers and smiling happy people
People can trash Oakenfold all they want but during this time there was no one imo that could create the kind of journey he did with trance songs like these.
Back in the day there was no edm. There was trance house deep house melodic trance jungle drum n bass acid trance and happy hardcore and I went to every party there was. It's all old school , not the same anymore
I took my son to Cream's 20th birthday party in Oct 2012, on the way there we were discussing what tracks might be played, Oakey was on the decks playing some tremendous tunes, then he dropped this in & faded out within a second or two, the look on my sons face was a priceless moment one i will never forget, all the years i have been playing his mixes & telling my son how brilliant this guy was was summed up when he let this song rip........wot a great night, by the way this was the first time he'd ever this the legend play live.....brilliant
This has to be one of the best progressive trance songs ever produced. combined with all of another world disk 2 it is truly an EPIC GOD like ride of the mind
To each his own, djchristian82. It is progressive enough and kind of epic but you are right, it is trance. Too many labels and sub-genres for each song these days anyways and not everyone sees eye to eye as to what classification a track fits into. As long as it moves you, it is good stuff.
Just dont make em like they used to.. so much good trance music out today but for when we were coming up and this shit was fresh out of the oven,,, well it’s as mind blowing today as it was when released.. I’m thankful to lived in that era... ❤️👍🙏🏻
I know! Why isn’t this on Spotify!! His catalogue starts at Swordfish. But there’s so much missing. This is my favorite track of his on my favorite album of his.
I’ll never forget dude. I was in 5th grade when my best friends older sister gave me this cd. She changed my life. The whole album was epic. But this song was the best. On the weekends I would play this album in my room and my siblings would come down. I’d turn on the black lights and the strobe lights and we’d be having the time of our lives. This song was always the climax. What great memories ❤️ 💕
Back in 2003, in my honeymoon we left this song on repeat for at least 5 hours or more...it made my honeymoon go to another dimension, filled the air with electricity... simply unforgetable .... My one and only best track ever...
THIS track coupled with that Blade Runner Monologue death speech is simply the best combo mix ever for me. The lyrics are haunting. You can’t quite pin them down. I used to think they said “Like a car crash in the rain” and then I read somewhere that they actually say “like a cloud cries in the rain”. Epic either way. Love the image/idea of a cloud crying though. Maybe we should all get tattoo reminders that read: “You’ve Got A Wonder That’s All Your Own!” Or “You gotta wonder, it's all your own!” Heaven knows…
This was one of the first electronic albums I ever bought when I was younger... It totally opened up my world. (Keep in mind I was heavy into Death Metal).. There's something about the whole album that will never get old. Everything blends perfectly.. It just takes you on one of the most amazing musical journey's ever. By far, this song is the greatest way to end an a two disc set. Simply amazing... +1 if you agree! :D
FWIW for those who don't know, it's "Grayed Out" because it's by Andy Gray; and yes, I completely agree that this song is just hauntingly-good. It's Piledriver's best remix IMO, and the first time I ever heard it is on this very two-disc set - at the very end of a disc, and it was a wonderful way to end that disc's set IMO. I originally bought this release on impulse because of Highland's No Way Out favorite back then, but this song became handily my favorite track on the entire release - no contest.
This song has so much energy. Not the energy to dance, at least to me, but the energy to be stimulated and become lost in your own mind. It's rare to hear music give me that energy these days. Maybe that's what late 90's, early 2000's Trance is all about. It's a style that's been with me for half of my life, and it continues to do what no other music can do for me; send me far away to a magical place.
Same man. No matter what I always find myself coming back to this era. Nothing beats it. Just that musical journey, mind melting stuff, hairs on my arms standing up and get chills...no other music does this.
Just one more comment, I've never heard a track where the vocals and the music compliment each other so well and reinforce the same feeling. It's a tempest.
This era had Too many trance classics. This, Libra-Anomaly(Calling your name), BT-Flaming June, PvD-Angel and We are Alive, Lustral-Everytime, Gamemaster, Greece 2000, Dj Sakin-Protect your heart, Hybrid's remix of Take A Picture from Filter, Utah Saints Lost Vagueness, Sasha-expander and on and on and on
Like a melt down power zone Pressed on me With the very thought of love Like a voice in a hurricane Your heart, platonic I've waited for so long The force, excited Like a life on a runaway train :))) LOVE , Jan 2022 ..... Thank you 😊
Man! I remember this summer like it was yesterday! Scent of life all around!!! This cd was amazing, and what started it was his Live in Oslo 1997 two cd mix. (First one was better imo) song seriously brought back some great memories, time flies. Oakenfold ❤ still one of GOAT!
My first techno CD was ATB and I loved every second of it. I graduated to Paul Okenfold and Armin Van Buren and now enjoy today all of it, and the new guys like Panama and Sultan & Shepard. This track is one of my favorites and will never get old.
Lets have it right, the best time for prog house and trance was the period 1996-2001.oaky,sasha,digweed,seaman,warren,etc were our beatles. what have kids got now.shite "r+b" and bianca gascoine, lauren pope and peter andre's brother dj'ing dahn the "suga hut mate" fuck that!.i'll remember 'whoop it up' down the velvet rooms ta very much. i probably sound like me grandad having a moan at me dad when he watched the stones on ready steady go. mind you, i was a fucker on the gear back then. for those in the know. i salute you.
Haha great post, but please man...2001-2005 was also an amazing period for Trance! Although its true Prog-house was starting to move away from it's original iconic feelings like the stuff we got from S&D comps (Expeditions, NExposure etc), also Hardkiss bros over in the States had amazing thing going... wish this sound would make a return. But yeah I think 2003-4 were particularly amazing years for Trance and electronic music as a whole.
to be fair, there is a good amount of good music tho... you just have to look for it... there are awesome talents, just as there were whackers back then as well. that 10-20 great of the early 00's were just a fraction of all dj-s. and the same percentage of todays dj-s are great today. 1 out of a 100 are really great, the others are just noise. i for one just love the likes of kas:st, bicep, i hate models, fjaak just to mention the current generation. yes, being in our 40's 50's etc wont ever be the same as being a high teenager, but that is our problem, the music is great as it has ever been
This song is 10+ years old and can still give me chills. Underappreciated classic. Wish the lyrics weren't so nonsensical. Oakenfold probably got more mileage out of this song than Andy Gray (Amoeba Assassin) ever did.
I listen to a lot of music of all generas, but this song I always keep coming back to. The amount of creativity that this song has sparked and continues to spark is incredible. I agree with Brenden... an amazing driving song.
Phenomenally timeless. Which is the point. To be able to put this on at any moment. Creating reaction, and movement. Then diving deep into the wide open. Thank you @AmoebaAssassin @PaulOakenfold
You know this reminds me of when Perfecto were pumping out some of the best progressive trance vinyl I ever heard, back in early 90's, thanks to my mate Alan for refreshing my memory, durin class..
I’m 32 now, and here 18 years after I first heard this song. I was copying my older brother’s trance CDs, including this album and Tranceport. This might still be my favorite song. It was the most amazing experience being introduced to trance and house for the first time. Started listening to Hearts of Space on WPSU radio and the Essential Mix on BBC Radio 1... Proud to say I loved it before electronic music became mainstream. What a memory.
I used to jam this track in my car all the time. I remember tipping off a local electronic radio show to it and when they played it... it blew up the airwaves. Such intensity and layers - very hard to compare to any other electronic dance/trance track...stands alone.
I bought this cd in 2003 I think . I only knew a few songs by Paul oakenkfold at the time but it was one of the best cds I ever bought . Think I was 16/17 years old at the time

He was my best friend, I always remember that time and place with this song. Takes me to better times. Total masterpiece.
i had the same experience.. thats where i found the song too, on mtv... then one day i just bought the another world album and i had the awesome suprise of this track.. to this day, its my favorite song of all time...

I have the same feeling i had back at that time. patience pays off
I have this one on vinyl! Classic! Grey is on the synth, Sacre is on the vocals, just to clear things up. I love the hidden track from this 12" on the B Side..
I remember buying this CD when it came out. It was my intro to Progressive House. This track blew me away. I miss the old trance, dance has totally gone down the shitter.
Me acuerdo de mis fiestas en los cayos de Utila, Honduras alla por el 2004 cuando andaba arriba y disfrutaba del amanecer rodeado del mar, arena blanca, arrecifes y 🌴palmeras.
Bought this cd like almost 10 years ago from Tower Records....still have it....still listen to it while I'm working....my favorite song from cd....it'll never get old in my book....Paul Oakenfold is the greatest DJ in history, IMHO :)
this song is just pure fuckin magic, still to this day it hits the spot, i actually just had an urge to play it on you tube. Those who dislike it, would be interested in hearing your ideal trance tune.
Your life, euphoric
I've waited for so long
I'm crashing
Sweet foam in these eyes
Like a six ton mega bomb
Your heart, platonic
I've waited until this time
The force, erratic Like a deuce from a laser storm
Your spite, turns on me
Like a cloud cries in the rain
Your karma it's solid
You gotta wonder, it's all your own
You gotta wonder, it's all your own
You gotta wonder, it's all your own
Heaven knows.... Heaven knows
Still I felt so right
Guess I've never known before
Heaven knows.... Heaven knows
Still I felt so right
Guess I've never known before
Heaven knows....Heaven knows
Still I felt so right
Guess I've never known before
Your thigh, Your hip
Like a melt down power zone
Pressed on me
With the very thought of love
Like a voice in a hurricane
Your heart, platonic
I've waited for so long
The force, excited
Like a life on a runaway train
Your spite,
Exotic
Rush in to my mind
Your own, Your soul
You're like ice on a desert plain
You're like ice on a desert plain
You’re like ice on a desert plain

This isn’t an Oakenfold track though. This is Andy Gray. Tiesto remix of Southern Sun is peak Oakenfold
