Been a long time since I saw a W-9 working in the field. My grand dad had one 60 years ago. They would take turns running it around the clock plowing. There were also a few other machines from my past in this video.

I recall plowing with a 3 bottom pull type plow and getting it so plugged all three wheels of the plow were in the air. Believe it happened due to pure frustration. I was much younger then.

Great video on my bosses farm we run twin S780’s in our family farm we run New Holland TR’s it’s whole different world from little to big. What I’ve learned and come to appreciate in my experience is that bigger helps a lot but you can’t forget about how far farming has come from hand plows to automated tractors. Gotta love the classics

Great Vlog, It's good to compare the methods of the 1960 & 70s with todays methods, my observation is the major difference is the RAW horsepower available in todays machines providing the power to do multiple functions in one pass, thanks

Harvesting machinery is fascinating. We’ve come a long way, over the years.
However, when you know what tilling does to the soil microbes in the soil, no-till is the way to go. Erosion is an issue when you till, as well. That’s why our topsoil is so thin today compared to years past. Weed seeds are also brought to the surface to germinate, when you till.
If they could design a harvester that could also pull the stocks out of the ground and mulch them as a final step, it would be perfect. Let the worms and microbes do the rest.
I would encourage every farmer to read a book called “Teaming With Microbes,” by Jeff Lowenfels and Wayne Lewis. It should be required reading for farmers, because it really gets into soil science. Then, experiment with it. Many farmers are switching to no-till.

just don't see any MM harvesting equipment anymore Such a treat to see. Even I on the Tractor forums (NOT FB) see guys just handing out old Corn Pickers and MM Harvesters for free!!! Yeah, I picked up an old MM Sheller from a guy for nothing. Complete even. 1936 model. I'll take OLD Over new! Dispite the huge drop in Efficiency and comfortability. At least the "Made in USA" ones will last the good ole 100 yrs or more

We saw a Gehringhoff NorthStar Horizon SC head in operation. It would chop and windrow the stalks. Then the fodder coming out of the combine would drop on top. It made it pretty easy for us to round bale it later. I have seen some guys with either 20' or even 30' Hiniker flail windrowers doing similar.

i wish you would show and explain the differences more, i.e. on the modern combine show the shredder rollers and how the cornstalk is pulled down through it versus the old rollers which pinched the ear off but the stalk was just drug through.

Back when I started out I picked corn on the ear with a one row New Idea picker and a D C Case tractor. I used what was known as a stock chopper, 8 ft wide with 4 blades that rotated as I drove through the field. It was a jarring experience as each blade hit the ground it would jolt the whole tractor.
