I think what needs to be addressed here is that she had an underlying condition (Hashimoto’s) too, and that the psychiatrist didn’t check up on that. I have ADHD and whenever I see a psychiatrist for the first time, the first thing they ask me is if my thyroid levels are okay, since I’m assuming that that can also cause similar symptoms to ADHD. Yet in this video, instead of highlighting the huge mistake that was made, all the focus is towards stimulant bashing. There are people who genuinely NEED these medications to function every single day, fear mongering of this kind is extremely harmful.
OMG yes! I was like really? What the heck? When she said that. This is total fear mongering and I 100% agree. People that are needing and legitimately rely on these medications to live a normal life are, at least I would say, not usually later correctly diagnosed with Hashimoto's. She was literally wrongly diagnosed and they're making it out to seem like stimulants are an ememy.
Not to mention that neglecting to focus on the misdiagnosis enables people to shift the blame to this woman. She was struggling; of course she is going to listen to a doctor who may be able to show her a “way out” of her challenges. If she was diagnosed with ADHD, she is going to sue stimulants.
Yes!! Thank you!!!! It took me 8 years to finally get prescribed a stimulant for my ADHD…I have a history of opioid addiction (been clean 6 years) so I was seen as “med seeking” 🙄 My life was miserable, even in recovery, before this medication. I couldn’t hold down a job, my home was a wreck, and I was so overwhelmed I felt frozen with anxiety. I couldn’t go from A to B…I would go A ➡️ Q ➡️ P ➡️ Z ➡️ 7 and so on, in circles, never able to finish anything. The difference for me is night and day…in fact I became an addict while trying to mitigate my symptoms with substances. Finding the right medications not only completely removed any desire to get high or escape my reality, but I am now capable of things I never dreamed of being able to do before. Now, I’m also bipolar and still have the occasional episode, but medications have turned these giant boulders into gravel…manageable pieces. I literally wouldn’t be here without them. Also, I’ve found that for people who NEED stimulants, they don’t make them hyper…with my meds I am calm and can think on a linear level. I’m actually less social even…so if you’re getting massive euphoria and energy from the meds then THAT is what leads to addiction, when you don’t need them.
Nothing is wrong with them if used as prescribed by your doctor. But they can be very addictive and come with side effects, especially Adderall. You build a tolerance and keep seeking that motivation and focus, and that creates the cycle of wanting to abuse it.

It shouldn't be as easy as a doctor assessing you in 10 minutes then writing a script. Here in the UK I've been on a waiting list for 3 years for an NHS diagnosis. Decided it was taking too long and it's impacting my life too much to keep waiting so booked private (even private paid care had a 3 month waiting list) . I had to pay £430 for the initial hour long consultation then 2 more half hour sessions at £230 each before they could make the decision. And I think it's the way it should be. At least 90 minutes and/or 2 seperate sessions minimum for the psychiatrist to get a firm grasp on your background, childhood, baseline emotions, past trauma etc. Don't get me wrong I don't mean you shouldnt have to wait months or years or pay for it. Just shouldn't be as simple as "sounds like adhd here's some adderal". Long term daily stimulant use is a serious thing that needs assessed properly. Not a "throw stuff at the wall and see what sticks" approach.
