Check the band Grotus. Two basses, drummer, singer that drums. They’re fantastic and a precursor to so many bands that their influence is almost buried.

Yes. Boss LS-2 is the holy graill and the easiest way for Bassplayers who want to use guitarpedals. In combination with the Boss LS-2 my cheap Behringer Ultra Metal (UM 300) Distortion pedal sounds like a boutique pedal. Great review.
I use the Fangs with a Big Muff and its a killer combination just need to be subtle with the muff! (Now realised what I have written and waiting for the comments!).......🤭
For the style of death metal that I play, the MT-2 is the clear favourite. But it was fun to listen to all the demos and especially hear the Fullbore doing something useful. Might take a look at the used market and see if I can snap one up.
I just got one and it's pretty cool, I get some great tone out of it, I feel like it gets a bad wrap cuz people who demo it typically don't mess around with it much, everything is just set to 12 o'clock or ramped way too far up. If you scoop the mids and crank the highs you can get that really fuzzy burzum filosofem tone out of it. I have mine dialed in to a sound that's really reminiscent of old Obituary
I use a overdrive, into a SansAmp, then run that into the effects loop, no low end loss at all! Access to the amp Eq with the sans amp Eq, and have a very mean aggressive overdriven sound with plenty of low end…
I like how you keep switching different basses for different tones honestly... As a bass builder could I suggest that you'll get better results and thicker overtones using ceramic magnet pickups opposed to alnico or ferrite magnet pickups. Ceramic handles the distortion by far better, especially combined with alder, swamp Ash, and maple wood bodies.
Metal Muff should be good as EQ/"preamp" too, when I roll distortion knob to 0 it doesn't distort at all and I can use it to add or cut lows, mids and treble or just boost the signal.
relation prize-quality is very important, in this case, metal fangs distortion is a great deal for bass players who can't afford expensive pedals. In my opinion every pedal on this video sounds similar each to others, and any choise is really a good decision, but i can't help be impressed about TC Electronic products left me speechless
I just discovered your channel the other day and totally digging it. To my shock, the Digitech Grunge pedal with the low up about 3/4, almost all the way down and the gain all the way down is an absolute beast on bass. It's very similar to the Darkglass B3K for way cheaper.
You wanna know how to REALLY do this? Get the Boss LS-2, as mentioned in the video. Put your metal distortions in one loop. In the other loop, put an EHX Knockout - clean to 0, highs to 0, lows to taste. It's a low-pass filter set at 60Hz, you you'll never lose your bottom and you'll never have that cheesy "two basses" blended sound.
@@andreasdeutinger7319 I've since changed the Knockout to a Microtubes X, which gives me a distortion PLUS the an adjustable low Pass filter at the twist of a knob. I have a Brimstone Crossover Distortion that will arrive today to replace the X!
I personally use the Wampler Dracarys with an Allied overdrive for my setup. Then add in a Tumnus in my fx loop through an Orange terrorizer and it sounds like I'm ripping mountains in half. I also really feel the style of bass, amp, and cab matters when you get into metal bass. That is my black metal setup, and I use a modified P bass I built with an Orange terrorizer 500, and SWR 4 x12. For a more hard rock stoner doom its the Boss Ds-1 Tumnus stack into the Orange, but with my Emperor 2x15 cab.
I use a modelled version of whatever the guitarist is using, normally a JCM 800 for metal but works with most other amps. That way phasing isn't a problem between the two bass signals, it can all come out of one DI and all the EQ points match up not leaving a huge gap when solos are taken.
I have tested a shitton of distortion pedals. The best guitar pedal for me is the old and out of production "Jeckil and Hyde", made by Visuals Sounds. Its bad that they are out of business, so you have to get old, used pedals. Its a fuzz and distortion pedal. With the overdrive side you are able to get everything, from astonishing tube like harmonics to complete overdrive. The distortion is something different, from nice and gritty up to totally and complete facemelt. The overdrive has gain, volume and a tone knob, the distortion a three band EQ, volume, gain - and a bass knob that gives you back all the bass you need. I stopped using the Jeckil and Hyde because I found the Darkglass B7k working much better to me. You are able to mix the untouched signal with the distorted tone, have a 4 band EQ and a Grunt and a Attack mini toggle switch. Ok, this one is built for bass, and you hear and feel it. Another question: please tell me something about the Thunderbird that you use in the vid. Is it an Epiphone? I am looking for a TBird with bolt on neck, because I have an old Fender P bass neck, and I want to built a Fenderbird. I know that there are Epi TBirds with a bolt on neck, but I was not able to find one until now. Are those stock pickups? Thank you in advance!
Awesome clip 😎🤘🏻🎸 I’ve once used my brother’s metal zone through a friend’s ampeg rig and it sounds killer. With that being said, I personally liked how they all sound, but if I can choose two, I would go with the boss metal zone and the tc electronics fangs metal distortion pedal.

Very nice video guys. I use a bass modded MT-2 with my P bass but i stack it over Sansamp clone , and it sounds great. Digitech distortion factory is another amazing 7 in 1 metal pedal.
The end result is cool but takes so much effort to make it work way better off just getting a bass distortion pedal. However if you are a guitarist or a studio and have ways to biamp/mix the clean tone this is a solid idea for production. there's lots of pedals that make a loop that lets you mix your clean sound with your effects pedals would love a video on some of those.
hot dayum that mxr pedal sounds awesome. I need that tone without splitting the signal to a second amp, how would I still split it with the clean low end signal?

It was surprisingly excellent.
Yeah. I been using for a while ... and I have to play around with settings but that is it for me
Yeah, I think it works better as a bass distortion than a guitar distortion
Boss MD-2 Mega Distortion - even better imo, fuzzier and bassier
