DM DOKURO - bacteriophage

- ... whatever. my birthday, my channel, my rules. you already know how we do things around here.
this track comes from an album that i am currently working on - i had thought about not really saying much of anything about it, as it was a sudden idea for an album at that time, and i go through those like paper (commitment issues), but after finishing a few tracks for it, i decided to make this a thing. then i realized that i practically ghosted all of you as a result of the work i'm putting into this thing. all of this said, i might as well give you at least one glimpse into the mayhem i've been focused on. i will warn you: i'll be experimenting with all types of sounds for this album, so you can expect a lot of harsh noise and sensory overload as a result.
this track is about science, i think. that, or the vicious cycle of abuse seen from the eyes of a simple organism attacking its host. i've seen many stories like this one, where it just... continues. doesn't stop, or get remedied... it continues, and sometimes, it shows from both sides. either can try to move on from it, but it will live within them forever. even an argument you may think was insignificant can hold that much of a difference. without resolution or closure, it continues again and again.
manually making growls/screams for a synth voice with none of those features is extremely hard work, but it was necessary for this track, and for another that'll be worked on after a little break i'm taking, since i had worked on this track for nearly 10 days in a row. . . . have i mentioned how much fun i'm having with synthesizer v?

Fun Fact: Bacteriophages don't actually target humans! They hunt specific species of bacteria, and only that specific species of bacteria. They are so specific in their hunting, they have evolved to kill multi-drug resistant bacteria. When coming into contact with a human cell, they simply ignore them, and bounce off politely. This would mean that the lyrics would describe a bacteria - not a human.
You can also deduce this from the lyric, "Bursting from your shell"
Great song!
Yeah, I was thinking it could be like that, too
"Bursting fron your shell" is basically how they kill bacteria.
yeah I always thought this was a song about a bacteria
looking up bacteriophages I could make out 3 characters in the song
The deep voice at the start of the song represents the bacteriophage because it makes the bacteria’s world worse as it exists
The second voice you hear represents the bacteria because of the way droplets of itself collide with the human’s scars
And dokuro’s voice represents a human because there’s nothing else he could be I guess
i feel like it's something more metaphorical than literal bacteriophages and bacteria but that's actually ture...
imagine if in the future we use bacteriophages to pretty much wipe out most if not all of the major (if you can call them that) diseases like cancer and when the cells or bacteria of said deseases get infected with phages this song is what they hear
Holy shit, this is incredible, I was worried you were gonna crush your voice when I heard the screams/growls, those things are voice erasers! Glad it's some other crazy thing you did, won't turn your throat into paste, also, your singing is great here, glad I was up far too late to hear this right before bed, thanks
plot twist: i didn't sing anything at all.
This actually isn’t entirely true. Unclean vocals when done correctly actually do less damage to your vocal cords than clean vocals do.
I mean he used a guy named Kevin so yeah (pretty sure it's a vocaloid thing idk how music making works lol)

Hi CDMusic
@@Chumbp ah shit here we go again
The mix of it being "science metal" with the clean vocals complimenting the growls really reminds me of Scar Symmetry, that's a good thing, a very good thing. Glad see you upload DM, and happy birthday!
honestly, i'd rather y'all call this something like Fake Metal. mainly because everything was done through kontakt libraries and such.
@@DMDOKURO Honestly I feel like the mechanical nature of the kontakt library fits. There's something satisfying about how 'perfect' the guitar is especially when it comes to the muted notes and such.
@Jacob Combs the vocals in roar of the jungle dragon and stained brutal calamity are done by himself
@Jacob Combs he did, all other songs with lyrics are made with synthv
@@DMDOKUROWell to be honest, think of metal coming in physical and digital forms. They’re both legitimate, only one gives more “authenticity” than the other. Regardless, they’re both still metal.

music/lyrics: DM DOKURO
vocals: Kevin (Synthesizer V)
album: they know who they are
Lyrics:
during the day
i will invade your whole life
feeding upon
your broken heart to survive
as i infest
you slip into the mundane
while i exist
to make your world's matters worse
during the night
you're choked awake and can't move
i lose control
becoming your suffering
droplets of me
colliding with your open scars
apologies
cannot remove parasites
time will tell for sure
during the day
regret will not provoke change
the act was done
so we will live life again
and you pretend
like nothing caused your foul mood
and when we're through
we will have said our goodbyes
during the night
i'm in your head. in your thoughts
I take control
prolonging your suffering
visions of me
swerve in a dance inside of you
another husk
embracing your parasites
bursting out in wrath
yet while inside this void you're crying
towards that psychopath
who watched with glee while you were dying
bursting from your shell (bursting from your shell)
the end result of my infection
life to living hell (life to living hell)
no means of comfort or protection
death within my grasp
my final moments filled with sorrow
leaving far behind
the remnants of the life i borrowed.
emerged
i always mishear "no means of comfort or protection" as "your means of comfort are pretentious"
For those curious, the card at the end reads
"Compared to them, you're no monster."
"you're not always to blame."
The text is flipped horizontally and vertically, different ways for both pieces of text.
I really love this, and the fact that all of this is vocaloid is really awesome - thought it was you singing at first, ngl. Also happy birthday!
i dunno... with how SynthV and all these other new vocal synths are coming in, Vocaloid has been kinda quiet lately...
@@DMDOKURO damn I’ve gotta get my hands on this technology…
Perfect depiction of suffering from mental illness. To my experiences at least, spot on. Your works are full of emotion, and that's something that is very difficult to achieve. Great work dokuro, stay safe
Can you explain how? I just sont undersrand from the lyrics
"during the day I will invade your whole life" a lot of people suffering from mental problems are often set back in social situations (although that depends what problems you have) and sometimes they stop you from doing stuff like going to work or hanging out with friends.
Song also says that it keeps you awake at night, when you're alone with your thoughts and you lose control of them you can't do anything but think and because of that you can't fall asleep. Most of the lyrics in the song are pretty much a reference to suffering from mental illness like anxiety or depression for example. You can try to read into the lither lyrics if you want
@@evenrag thank you
@@evenragthat is actually pretty spot on as far as the issues I face during my waking hours

Love the vocals man!
Also I love the Synthesizer V work you’ve been doing I am now a fan of vocaloid
Happy birthday. Didn't even know
Edit: I noticed what you said in the description about experimenting with sounds. I liked descent for the fast paced heavy drumming, and I've noticed that I like overwhelming songs. I hope you still enjoy making songs, because your well being is all that matters. After that, doing what you enjoy.

"Time will tell for sure"
Dam that hits hard af
completely captivating. that last chorus is just stunning. amazing work on the synth V growls too, holy hell!
im absolutely in love with how those irregular rhythms mix with the vocal harmonies, holy shit. already looking forward to this project 😤👍
The entirity of this album has been very useful for my own healing journey. Ive been struggling with things that the world seems to have very little to no sympathy for, and everytime i listen to the songs in this album i bawl my eyes out (despite not being an emotional person at all) because it feels like im finally not alone in my struggle.
Thank you DM DOKURO. Even if this album ends up not getting finished because of your own demons, your positive contributions to my mental health have been staggering.
Waking up to a Dokuro song makes me feel like it's my birthday as well. Happy damn birthday, man. The best things all belong to you on this day
i LOVE the chord progressions and vocal harmonies in this!! if this is just one song of a whole album i'm very much looking forward to hearing more, this is outstanding
Really awesome sound Dokuro! Beautiful harmonies with that SynthV voice (sounds surprisingly like your own singing voice).
And, as always I hope things get better for you. 🫂
i thought it was his own voice lmao
What a beautiful album, I can see your descent into understanding by grasping the truth within you. Such maturity in this album. I much needed this.
Dude this song is absolutely amazing, this will totally be my anthem for 2023 and forward. The lyrics and song as a whole really go hard. Thank you so much for all the hard work you put into your music!
Another good one. Keep the good work up Dokuro!
already listened to this well over 20 times and I gotta say
gets better with every listen. I swear Dokuro could rush a song out in a single hour and it would still be legendary.
i love how each lyric reflects the actions of a virus, whilst not being too desperate and pushy to jam the idea of ''funny virus song'' into your head
And now Im speechless.
Thanks for your amazing work.
And here I was thinking calamity was the peak…
Nope, no, he’s actually still growing in quality-
Happy birthday! This is incredible, looking forward to the rest of the album!
Happy birthday man! Excellent track!!
Edit: What a fucking banger, listened to it like 5 times already. Love the Opeth vibes
incredible. absolutely speechless. The vocals and gritty theme work so well together. The composition is top tier, and the lyrics are spot on in displaying the songs message.
Every time you release, it puts a massive smile on my face. I can’t wait for your album.
Happy Birthday Dokuro, I hope you are pacing yourself.
WOW this is very good. I remember during the lockdowns jamming to your clalmity ost. This lives up to the gloriousness of that music. I'm looking forward to hear the rest of the album. Thanks
I have been listening to this on repeat for two hours now. Thank you.
Happy birthday, it's nice to see you enjoying the process this much more. This entry already sounds fantastic, best of luck with the album!

I mean I can. I can't wait to hear more of this album.

AWESOME!!! the vocal synths sound super natural, i thought "time will tell for sure//bursting out in wrath//etc. etc." was a person! the lyrics also slap incredibly hard. i'm really looking forward to the full album

Another amazing release, I always love seeing the new songs you put out there. You're like the Golden Goose, don't push yourself too hard, move at your own pace, we all like what you produce, but your own happiness comes over ours.
Edit: I've listened to this at least 10 times already, I love it so much I cannot stop listening to it.
Had to hop on my alt just to say...
This is amazing. All of it is. I love the cryptic messages behind it, I love the atmosphere, the metal screaming, it's all perfect. I can't tell if I like this or Still Here more.
Anyway, happy birthday, Dokuro. Hope you're okay.
My favorite message was “they know who they are” at the end. Can’t read the other text tho.
Yeah holy cow, especially with that little bit at the end, makes me wonder "A-Are you okay buddy?"
@@Starfloofle This and "Still Here" give me similar vibes with the "metal" they provide, even if Still here only has it as a section and not the full song.
I found out what the messages really mean. "Compared to them you're a monster" and "You're not always to blame". "They know who they are" is the name of the album.
Happy Birthday Dokuro! Looking forward to more when it's ready.
this goes so hard fr you always deliver amazing songs
Always awesome to hear when you're doing vocals.
Dudeeee, i was missing out! I wasn’t able to listen to this before i got into metal but now this shit goes hard
HAYYUPY BIRTHDAY Dokuro! A very interesting style shift, makes me look forward to this album you mentioned.
Happy Birthday Dokuro. This is an amazing metal track!!! I guess Metal Hellsinger is in BOTH our brains then.
no idea how tenebre rosso sangue lead me here, but it's so good. always loved metal with growls AND cleans(Ne Obliviscaris and Persefone being my favorite bands).

The brutal tone of the guitars and the use of the kicks to emphasise the chugging makes me want to call this Nu Metal or Djent but this sounds like a whole new genre entirely.

that perspective really makes this song hit closer to home than i would've thought--i'd listened to this song a bunch of times but never really took in the lyrics (in my defense, i'm not great at processing speech sometimes) and boy fucking howdy did i grow up in a codependent relationship like what you're describing--it still eats at me and i have no doubt in my mind it still eats at the other person. we cut things off (well, "we" implies agency on my part--more like he cut me off for being a pathetic fucking wretch) but nearly eight years after the fact it's hard for a day to go by where something crosses my mind that doesn't in some way make me think of that situation. there was no satisfying conclusion; it's just impossible.
Ever since calamity my favorite compositions have always been your metal ones, this is one of the best imo. Keep it up!
I hope they hire you if they make DMC 6 for the music this is insanely good
