Tbf, it's not the first time that a FE character is possessed by a opposite gendered entity. But yeah, it would probably be a bit less awkward if we could hear Byleth's and Sothis' voices simultaneously rather than just hearing Sothis' voice coming from Byleth.
No cap in the demo female byleth sounds more Sassy then male in this game which means female byleth has more of a personality than male byleth. So it’s canon byleth is female. Especially cuz sothis. Arval I feel like gender wise is male so canon gender for shez is male. This is just my theory for the canon gender of the protag based on if they have personality or not and how both stands act and sound.

And in basically all the trailers. Considering Male Byleth was pushed for pretty much all of three houses promotional material it makes sense in a way that the what if scenario pushes Female Byleth. Though outside of how goofy Male Byleth is with sothis’s voice i think Male Byleth does a better job portraying the cold emotionless mercenary.
female byleth also seems more "canon" as shes supposed to be the goddess/vessel of the goddess (also you can romance every lord as female byleth). engage kinda changes that tho
I used Female Byleth, so having Sothis' voice gave me an "Oh Shit we're fucked" moment. Seeing it from the Male perspective when I rewatched the cutscene was more humorous than "Oh shit".
For me it was the opposite. It feels more like an “oh shit” moment, because it’s male byleth and a pissed off girl voice seeking blood should not be coming out of this guy.

@@Beresunablle Sothis has nothing to do with Byleth's gender, the only reason Sothis is even within Byleth at all is because of the circumstances of their birth. And really of anything since Sothis taking control is supposed to be shocking and unnatural Byleth being male makes more sense.

Interesting that Shez and Arval never wonder why the Ashen Demon's appearance changed as well why a woman's voice is heard from his mouth. It is also interesting that Sothis did not made the effort to introduce herself. The game's dialog in Three Hopes could have been much better.

@@Egoce Sothis was always able to stop time, though, unless you've forgotten how she stopped time before Byleth was struck by Kostas, and only later rewound it. Sothis has control over the flow of time in general, not just rewinding it. Also, we saw it from Shez's perspective, so we don't fully know exactly what Byleth was doing.

Spin-off where one of Byleth's older merc jobs ended a bit early due to Jeralt being efficient at his job, so Byleth never ended up at the academy. In this game, Shez survived that earlier encounter and met with the three house lords a couple of hours before Three Houses' prologue (so Kostas is killed early, they find Monica before Kronya and Solon take her, etc.). As such, you get 10 major permutations for Fódlan's future (Silver Snow, Crimson Flower, Azure Moon, and Verdant Wind for Houses and the kill/recruit Byleth paths for Scarlet Blaze, Azure Gleam, and Golden Wildfire [though the kill/recruit Byleth choice basically affects details about the final chapters and if you get Chapters 15 and 16 {you skip those two chapters on each route if you kill Byleth}]). If Byleth's and Shez's genders also count as major permutations, then you get 32 permutations (2*4=8 for Houses, 2*2*2*3=24 for Hopes).
