For some reason Fallout 2 fans thinks every Fallout series fan agrees F2 is the best and that seems very silly from the perspective of the people who liked F1 more.
F1 is pure post-apo while F2 is more sort of "adventures of tribe man", no idea why so many people just assume sequel is better.
I think I should also elaborate a little bit about why I don't like MK3, the bullshit AI never lets you do running + combos anyway so it feels like a totally useless mechanic, you get to get that stuff in at the first battle but once the AI gets into its bullshit you can kiss that goodbye, its all about being cheap and that's the problem, it feels like there's no incentive to use it since its pointless later.

the Ai is basically OP and tracks ur moves based on the buttons you push so they can make u jizz coins into the machines

Rain is a reference to Prince's song "Purple Rain". The character is named Rain, is purple, and is the prince of Edenia.
He IS playable in the SNES and Genesis versions of the game - not any other version.
Oh hey by the way. You can turn MK3 into MK2. Get Mortal Kombat Trilogy. Go into the options "or possibly hidden options, and turn off combos. The game plays exactly like MK2 but with running. Have fun!

@@Therizinosaurus Cause it plays like MK2 then. Totaly new game and way more fun because you rely on your special moves to combo insted of the tap tap combo system. It was put in the game due to players no liking the MK3 combo system.

Combo system in MK3 is way better than in MK2, and way more entertaining to watch as a viewer/audience. I'd rather watch veterans doing combo battle in MK3, than in previous games.

To the uninformed, when talking about Reptile Joel was mashing up a bunch of different conditions. 100 battles is actually 50 battles for Noob Saibot in MK2 and low kicks is for Jade in MK2, Reptile is double flawless victory with a fatality and no blocking on The Pit while shadows pass by the Moon. Must be single player. I always heard the robots' statements as "Excellency!" and "Screw you!", also.
Also Simon is really shit in this game, what happened?

I always thought of MK3's different photoshop filters as unique schools of magic. Of _course_ Kabal and Shao Kahn would have their own blur effects!
Also the game really opens up once you know all 1,000 secret tricks about how to play it. And you have to drink a big soda, too.
The game indeed needs some time to be enjoyable, I must admit that's one negative side of it. You need some learning, and practicing. It has steep learning curve.
And guess what? SO DO a shit ton of good games out there, including MK1, and 2.

Says the mk3 characters are nonsense, while looking at the mk2 character screen with a god, an actor, a MuRiCaN man, a monster boi with arm-swords and a fire skeleton ninja. (and a kitty with 4 arms as semi-final boss). Sometimes when you don't want to see, you just don't want to see.
I kinda feel like Joel just hasn't learned enough of the A.I cheese and character combos to start appreciating the same way he explained with MKII. Although he has explained a bit more what he really meant, he also has a few silly things he holds against MK3 unfairly. Still love ya Joel keep doing your thing 👍

Armageddon was garbage though.
Armageddon is pretty bad as a fighting game in a lot of ways. The only thing good about it its the roster. Deception is a totally better game.
Now, all being said, I would love to see Joel playing every 3D MK.
Deadly Alliance and Armageddon were hot garbage. Deception was the only good one from the PS2 era.

Yeah no idea why they did that. This version of MK1 especially is great, but I don't get why they had the common sense to keep the voices the same and some sounds, and yet change others. The new clapping sound in particular is so damn offputting lol

Often fighting games will be somewhat fair up until the bosses where they crank up the difficulty suddenly.
Mortal Kombat (and Also Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo for some reason) say F that and make it balls-bustingly hard from the get go.
The Japanese version of Super Turbo is semi-reasonable. It was the international versions that cranked up the difficulty, to the point that it's debated whether the difficulty setting on the international versions actually does anything or if the game is permanently stuck at max difficulty.

I like MK3 characters, but the game itself just doesn't feel right.
Not completely sure, but I think the reason running exists in the mk3 games is cause you can run in a few other fighting games at the time (namely the king of fighters games) so they were probably just following suit.
And so you can rush down with combos. I think. I can never do it myself cause the AI kicks me in the face everytime I try.

Joel, the way to get reptile is too get two flawless victories on the pit stage without blocking and perform a fatality (you can't perform a stage fatality but you can do a fatality that requires the block button like toasty.) You also need to have a shadow fly pass the moon in the background. You should probably do this on snes because you don't need the shadow to fly by the moon. Also it's not different for every version. Edit: I forgot to mention that the game has to be in single player mode

Iv'e never seen someone shit on UMK3 so much, just because it has a simple running feature and because they implemented a combo system which the first two lacked. The difficulty is BS but all three games had that problem. Only reason you had no trouble with Khan in MK2 is because you knew about cheesy baraka tactic, if you didn't, he would've been as bad as in MK3, i remember spending 2h trying to beat him in MK2. Criticizing the visuals of MK3 also seems silly, it's from 1995 and some of the effects you made fun of were also in MK2, such as the warping vortex in the background. The only major complaint MK3 had at the start was the fact it had no Scorpion for some reason, considering Ed Boon is a huge Scropion fanboy it's crazy that even happened but thankfully UMK3 came out which fixed that and added some more characters,levels + mini-games.
Yeah, as much as I like Joel in general, sometimes his opinions kinda illogical and frustrating for me. He's okay with first two games because they about martial arts (questionable) even if they have gods, magic, 4 handed dragon monsters, tarkatans and multiple worlds in it, but yet can't stand cyborgs and invasion of the evil emperor on Earth. Like wtf? xD And I'm chill with that during stream, because he can just don't like the style of the game, but when he said about combos and running it's just turned me off. It seems he just shit on combos in MK3 just for the sake of shitting, cause he said it's just spamming buttons and and maybe you can pull off combo, when in reality there is dedicated series of imputs that you need to learn, like for fatalities and special moves, and they adding some depth in PVP. And this man love Tekken series, that have running and combos just like here in MK3, but no, MK3 is shit xD But hey... opinios, man. What I really don't like in MK3 compare to first two games is fatalities with decapitation. When Kung Lao fatality in the 2nd game have amazing animations for every combatants MK3 decapitation looks like they cut sprites on few parts and it's looks lazy, also that ulimited bones fest, not a fan. But in terms of creativity 3rd game is far from shit, it's a good sequel and far better game than MK4 and 5 that's for sure. And he said once that he likes MK4 lol

@@nikitalobo9337 I know and I love Joel too, his criticism of mk3 really bothered since it felt more like he wants to dislike it intentionally but is having a hard time actually giving many major valid reasons to not like it. Saying that having a more functional combo system and being able to run ruins a fighting game really is silly. Yes, there is a quiet charming simplicity mk 1 and 2 had but it couldn't really be like that forever, especially during that period where fighting games were getting more and more crazy popular each year with lots of other studio to compete with and their games. The AI is pretty insane and if you're not a fighting game god which most aren't, the typical strart is cheesing it, something both mk 1 and 2 require to beat em' too and even the later on mks to a degree.
Nothing like a good shit and watching Joel to get the old spirits outta the shitter. Quite literally...
joel I think you'd enjoy UMK3 more if you learn the basic combos for some characters. All I really know is scorpion and his main thing is Teleport->Spear-> HP, HP, (Back) HK, HK for a 6 hit cambo.
Combos are only practical when you're playing against humans, they're very ineffective against the bullshit AI.

MK1 Is my favorite too, it somehow actually feels... ominous? Like there's this sense of urgency and tension when you fight. It's probably the music that does it, but I'm not 100% sure.
I can relate, I like the music in it probably the best of them all, MK9 is a close second.
Still irks me to this day when people say Mortal Kombat theme they mean the movie, the MK1 title theme is so damn catchy :D

Joel pls. don't blame MK3 for you sucking. You abandoned most of the gameplay elements to cheese it as soon as you could and didn't learn from your mistakes the entire time you fought Shao Kahn. Like maybe not trying to throw an iceball as soon as you're able to land a slide. Or not using the more damaging combos if you manage to freeze him.

Talk about unpopular opinions, MK3 is my absolute favorite. The running feature and combos were awesome, they made you look like a total badass in the arcade. And I don't know how unpopular the cyborgs were, I was under the impression people seem to like them.
P.S. Motaro and Kahn both have their own cheats I found and have never not used since. Just uppercut Motaro straight into hell. Kahn you wait for his rising knee attack, uppercut, then run up and do your six-hit combo.
