Great video and the step by step instructions helped tremendously with changing the belt. Your no rushed approach to dismantling made this a non anxiety event. Well done.
WOW! I just dodged this 'bullet' on my 1960 T-1500. The take-up spindle was slipping badly. I bought a new belt, but was no-way looking forward to installing it. I got the sides and top-panel off, to discover the felt clutch lining had come unglued and was sticking out on one side. The belt is still supple, and while I'm sure it has stretched some, it's not slipping yet. So I disassembled the take-up spindle, reglued the clutch-felt, and the machine is again working perfectly (for now!) But many thanks for the video. I will need it when the time comes to tackle this ordeal! 🙂
Hey there? I am curious if you can share where to buy these parts. I am not tech savvy but have 2 of these machines laying around! thanks you! also would you know how much it would be to repair one of these things??
Thank you for the very detailed video. It was exactly what I needed to re-belt and clean one of these machines. Everything turned out very nice, and I about to use the tape deck to demo an amp and guitar mod.
Thanks! I have one of these that my grandfather had. However, the take up reel is not working, so I’m guessing the belt needs replacing… Where can I get these replacement belts?
Great video. This will help me greatly. I notice that the fan blade is missing from the motor shaft in your machine.

This machine is also known as the “Saving Mr. Banks” tape recorder, the one that was used in the movie.
Wie kommt man bei dieser Fehlkonstruktion an die Tonköpfe zur Reinigung ran.
I have this type of recorder that plays on full speed but not half speed. Any thoughts? My father made voice recordings but used half speed.
How do you remove the safety clip at 19:47?
That is a C-Clip. To remove it, just insert the screw driver and pry. You can search "Remove C-Clip" on youtube. There are many example.
Thank you.
How old are you?
