My father had this exact model of tape recorder. Every week, when the Johnny Cash show came on TV, we would prop the mic up in front of the console TV speaker and record the music. Dad would then edit out the talking segments by hand. He taught me how to edit tape on this machine, when I was nine years old. I'll never forget that. Incidentally, there is a stereo version of that machine as well.
This machine looks brand new !Great video! Thank you so much. I currently have 4 Wollensak machines. All 1520 AV . I had a T-1400 that had tubes in it but tossed it. I LOVE these machines!
A lovely machine. It is interesting that the manual refers to it as an 'audio-visual' tape recorder! Perhaps they envisaged it being used with a cine projector. What does the Instant Stop & Record Keylock do?
This machine has a lovely frequency range. I’m really not sure about the A/V name, you could be right with the projector idea. The instant stop simply stops the transport for a long as you hold the lever, like a pause button. Holding this lever whilst pressing play puts the machine into record mode.
@@SoundsVintage Ahh, thank you. It's really smart and I'm very envious! I own a cine projector where you can thread an audio tape from the reel-to-reel through the projector so that both are synced/ controlled at the same time (I believe). I've never tried it though to see how well it works.
Hello. If you skip to 1:32 in the video you will see an arrow pointing to a lever. Holding this lever down whilst pressing the play button puts the machine into record mode

Thank you for your comment. It's great to hear stories from when these great machines were in regular use

I’ve recorded on a professional reel to reel at a studio and I’m left wondering, where is the record button on this vintage equipment?

@@SoundsVintage Much Thanks didn't see it
Why is it called an "audio visual" tape recorder? ... It's audio only, and doesn't record video.
Hello. I'm not sure why it has the A/V name, perhaps the idea was for it to be used with a cine projector
