  • A partial recording that I just made of this song to demonstrate how I approach the notes and how you can also. It was originally recorded in 2015 and left as Private until now. I tried to leave out embellishments that I would normally put in, and played the notes straight as I can. It is NOT my finest recording, but, I feel that you can learn something from it. Wishing you all the best!

      Your comment is much appreciated Sideshow! I started practicing my Handwhistling in 1965 and am the Original Pioneer of this art form. I was invited to be a guest on the Tonight Show in 1979 and was on a full ten minutes. I put eight minutes of it up on my Channel in two parts. David Letterman was on the Tonight Show for the first time in 1978 and Johnny Carson liked him so much that he let him be the Guest Host with Doc when I was on. Johnny was off that night. David did not have his own Night Show for three more years! Other TV Shows are up as well as 300 videos of all kinds. Thank you for stopping by. If you are a Handwhistler, post some viedeos and I will give you advice on how to improve.

    Nicely done! I was expecting Hallelujah from Handel's Messiah, but I like the song you played more!

      Glad that enjoyed my simple rendition Jeremy. It was no frills, just the control of the tone.

      Thank ;you for enjoying and for your comment Tropic. I have been practicing my handwhistling since 1965 and am the original pioneer who got it accepted as a musical art form Nationally. Yes Bill, this song is pure genius from Leonard Cohen and so beautiful. I found it in my webcam uploads and had never posted it to UA-cam. Everyone seems to enjoy it. I kept it quite simple in my styling. Stay well and happy!

      Thank you Job te Pas for enjoying this demonstration video I made for a fellow Handwhistler to teach some of the techniques. Please check out the last one that I posted two days ago. It is, "I say a little Prayer" by Dionne Warwick. You will absolutely love this one. It is my finest! Stay well!!

    Hi l,m back l love your singing I’m not humming with your hands

    • @HandwhistlerBen
      @HandwhistlerBen  2 роки тому

      I am just blowing air into my hands and the "toot" and all the sounds come out from squeezing the palms closer for higher notes. It is the hollow sound from my sealed hands. I am not humming as you know, although, I can blow air into the hands and use my voice at the same time: ua-cam.com/video/sv6nuEbNoI8/v-deo.html I am happy that you are enjoying the over 55 years of handwhistling practice and 64 years of singing.

      Manu, where did you see this video? I only shared it with a handwhistler and guitar player named Mahir to help him improve his tone with diaphragmatic breathing techniques. Thank you for enjoying the hard work that I put into this short demo of this song.

    I'll try practicing along 😁

      Mihir- Practice recording WITHOUT ANY COMPUTER ENHANCEMENTS LIKE ECHO. I never use any. It covers up if your tone is not pure and steady. You hear everything when you listen to my videos. I don't ever edit any videos and always play straight through, even if there is a mistake. Of course I never use auto tune. Mitsuhiro uses his wind control the same way that I do. Although his vibrato is not like mine and isn't done professionally. I still get a more full tone than he does.

      Mihir- Here is another video that will show you all of the techniques that I use for my tone: ua-cam.com/video/jUiNebrhEK8/v-deo.html

    hey ben idk if you will answer but i want to know if you try to guess the tone (like moving up and down) by the melody itself or do you know all the notes of the melody and the notes of your hands? thing is i dont know my own notes but i do know the distances so sometimes whistling by hearing sounds better, you know what i mean? so my question is do you go by notes or hearing?

    • @HandwhistlerBen
      @HandwhistlerBen  9 місяців тому

      I know both the exact pitches in my ear AND the position on the hands to jump to the exact notes through the whole songs that I play!

      @@atrixiousscramasax6686 Are you a Pucker Whistler with your lips or tongue, or a Handwhistler like me? I could HEAR your lowest and highest note or a full scale and tell you what your lowest and highest notes are called.

    those low notes are difficult to play

      It may be the size of your hands or palms. It takes both control of the movement and seal of my hands plus control of the air stream, staying always relaxed. I make every note come out clear, rich, in tune and centered with the control of my diaphragmatic breathing techniques. Wishing you all the best. 56 years of practice also!
