I always have shot with the Square/X button. I've found it much easier this year to use the shot stick in the new method. Turn off aiming, pull the stick to shoot and tap L2/LT at the release point instead of releasing the stick.

But at the same time there is a delay to when you pull your trigger because it is not a button and it dosent activate right away
