Only thing I can add is to remind you you still have to water the transplants for the first couple weeks until they get a nice root ball around the ollas. I've heard some stories about people new to ollas wondering why their plants died after transplant and if ollas even work since their ollas were always full of water. It's because they dried out before the roots could reach the ollas to take up enough moisture to survive.
Good tip! Lucky for the plants it has been crazy rainy here, so I haven’t had to worry about any supplemental watering. Hope they’ll be established with the ollas soon.
Excellent! Top soil! Is refreshing to seeing something realistic and a lot better than dead soil mix that tricks people into buying fertilizer without comparing how live soil does side by side and see the difference! Specially if healthy non sprayed with poison soils! I add worms to mine too found in the wild if not added already when diggin the soil
I love my Thirsty Earth system! I rent a garden box in our community garden and it’s great when you only have one shared hose and can’t use drip irrigation. 🥰
Thank you! I’ve been liking it so far, and I’ll be sure to post updates. Your garden is beautiful as well! Just subscribed so that I can keep up with your plants too.
Hey! Thanks for checking in. Good news is that I’m editing the update vid as we speak, should be up within the next week. Adulting and my real job have just been taking up all of my time lately 😓
The nice thing with the way that Ollas system is designed is that you could build a rainwater capture system that would just eliminate your home water usage! Are you able to introduce liquid nutrients to this system?
Yeah that’s one of the things that appealed to me for it! I just built my first rain barrel system and am loving it. I was wondering the same thing about the nutrients. I’m not sure if they would clog the pores in the clay cups or not… Maybe I’ll email them and ask.
@@jackspepperpatchit shouldn’t clog the pores so long as it’s a non salt producing nutrient! Or if the reservoir has an ample amount of constant mixing to not allow for salt to build up.
hey great video. is there a follow up to this video? i just ordered the thirsty earth ollas and first question was how are they in fabric bags? and can they be used in pots with bottom watering like an earthbox or city picker box.
Hey, thanks! No specific follow up, but I show these plants again in my August pepper harvest video at around the 8 minute mark. The system worked great all summer! In the super hot times I did have to fill the bucket much more frequently (every other/ every 3rd day) but that was still a huge improvement from just the grow bags. I will show the system again in a video about the end of the season that should come out next week. My only other tip is to get some mosquito dunks for your reservoir because mosquitoes found their way into mine and filled it with larvae.
New subscriber... love your hot pepper focus!! Question - what size grow bags are you using now? You started with 20 gallon in your older vids, right? But your Amazon link for these bags indicates 5 gal bags. Seems too small... ? Thnx!
Thanks for subbing! I’ve always just used the 5 gallon grow bags. My hard sided plastic pots are much bigger though so maybe that’s what you’re thinking of. Bigger is always better but these 5 gallons are nice for space and cost
Whats up! Jack may God guide you in peace always! What are your favorite peppers and other vegetable or fruit varieties that you have eaten so far (top 3 of each) if you can share to hear what would be good and taste profiles
What’s up! My favorites are always rotating haha but at the moment I’d say top 3 peppers in order from mild to medium to hot are hatch chilis, fish peppers, and fataliis. Hatch chilis just have great flavor and I could incorporate them into anything. Same goes for fish peppers but they’re a bit hotter. Fataliis are my favorite for hot sauce making! They have great heat and flavor/aroma. other veggies I really enjoy growing are my strawberries, okra, and heirloom tomatoes. There’s just nothing like the taste of home grown ones and they’re more nutritious than the varieties you can get in stores too!
Thanks! I’ll keep the channel updated. Been mainly organizational stuff so far and tbh haven’t even gotten to all the regulatory sauce stuff yet. It’s a lot of steps to get everything approved to be compliant.

Just curious, but did u ever have the problem that the roots grew through the grow bag and into the ground? Ive heard that thats what happens when you place grow bags on soil/gras haha
Yes! That has happened to me before. Last year once the plants started to get bigger I placed all my grow bags up on a paver and it worked really well for me.

Great channel!! I grew 38 varieties in my 24 season, so much fun, learned a lot my first year
I appreciate it! I continue to learn new things every year. 38 varieties is a ton! Welcome to the club
That hat is CLEAN my guy. Congrats on the new business and looking forward to some monster harvests!
Thank you!! Love how the hats came out I’ve been rocking mine everywhere. Have brown and green bill ones available on my website 🤘🏼
Looking forward to an update on your setup. Thanks for sharing!

That’s a perfect use case for it! I’ve been liking this one a lot so far
Update Please!
Super kool system, Jack! 🥰🌱❤️ Looking forward to watching the peppers grow, and how that system works for you over the season. 😊

Hoping for an update soon. Hope all is well mate.

Nice! This is exactly my setup in the Phoenix desert.
Sweet! If it can work there then it’ll work here. How often do you have to refill the reservoir?
Also, congrats on your new pepper companyyy! 👏🎉✨
Appreciate it!! Been a lot of work, but it’s been fun to see the progress and reception so far!
Congratulations on starting up your own hot sauce company. I really hope it goes well for you.
Thank you! Still in the organizational phase now but I’m really excited. Will post updates!
you are very creative, we need to learn from you,
New subscriber here. This seems like a great system. I've got to check it out. Thanks for sharing!
No problem! Ill post updates with how it does this season. Thanks for subscribing - how are your peppers doing?

i think you need to soak the ollas in water to clean them before using, terracotta clay contains lots of arsenic
Interesting! Hadn’t heard that. It definitely couldn’t hurt to do it though.
Much love excited to do this journey myself if you have any tips on starting the business drop me tips.

The guy that does those ollas is about a mile away from me. He’s a pretty cool dude.
Nice! He seems super chill in all his videos. It’s a really cool system he came up with too. Where are you located?

what's the advantage of this over a normal dripline irrigation system? does it use less water overall?
Yes! They claim it uses 61% less water than a traditional drip system.
It looks like it’s better at bottom watering than traditional drip systems.
Dude you should have just filled and soaked them in water first.
Just following the manufacturer’s instructions!
