I too have chronic pain, fatigue , fibromyalgia, degenerate bone and disk desease, brain fog, insomnia, consentration issues, epilepsy and all began causing me issues all at once in my early 20's... I'm now 58. It's all getting worse with age, so I'm highly interested in your study as well. God Speed and best of luck on the outcome. May it help us all !
I know I might be out of context since you are discussing Psilocybin, but my girlfriend has fibromyalgia, and she has tried all supplements and possible remedies, but the only three things that have truly helped her are: the keto diet (which led to a significant improvement in all symptoms in just three days), 5-HTP (which slightly improved pain, but she stopped taking it because her sensitive gut couldn't tolerate it well), and continuing gym training despite the initial worsening of symptoms. I hope this could help someone
I deal with chronic and episodic pain related to multiple sclerosis and trigeminal neuralgia. I’ve found positive, sustained results from psilocybin and ketamine, using a mix of micro and macrodose regimens. I look forward to hearing more about your results, it’s a very promising area.
As a person who suffers from chronic pain due to traumatic injuries to the thoracic spine, which then progressed into an array of other issues - CRPS, including chronic fatigue/fibromyalgia very complex pain issues. Anyway I’m so pleased to see that we enquiring into these types of promising natural therapies options in research. I am very sensitive to some types of pharmaceuticals- unfortunately most pain medications have had unwanted side effects, worst being lowering mood. The country where I live, unfortunately it is hard to access main stream treatments let alone alternative therapies. We are really in need of more options to treat our pain issues :)
Such an interesting study! Most of us have an active Cell Danger Reaction that never turns down and psilocybin can maybe turn it off. Please do keep us posted!
I don't have fibromyalgia, but I have ME/CFS and POTS and I used to have pretty severe air hunger that disappeared after I self administered 100 mcg LSD a few times over the course of a couple months. I haven't needed to readminister LSD for about 6 months now.
I used to take low dose abilify before to treat those symptoms, so i've narrowed it down to something to do with dopamine d2-receptor activity. it seems to lower inflammation as well, and has opposite effects on it compared to adderall which is like poison to me.
@@arasharfa exactly. Our Dopamine receptors in the brain , can be stimulated by music, running or exercise, etc. I had been in a trial at Harvard/ Brigham & Women’s in Boston to see what happens to patient with CML( chronic myeloid leukemia) for 5 yrs. They concluded the disease itself has affected more of the right hemisphere, cognitive function. But! Pain caused me to have high doses of opioids and I enjoyed my life without pain for 7 years. I voluntarily got off last year and was put on Suboxone not knowing it would affect my left hemisphere. I played guitar, violin, piano, I sang. It all ceased and as a very intuitive human I relied upon this my whole life. I realized this shift too late. I am trying to fix the brain and the body. Stressors are so debilitating I now have to fight to gain brain function back. I’d hoped to get into a clinical trial but I guess I need to try my own. There are dopamine receptors in our gut too so I hope I can regenerate the pituitary and adrenal glands. But pain is really bad. So LSD-45? Compound is best? What is air hunger?
Dr. Have you looked at Charles Nichols' work on the anti-inflamatory properties of classic psychedelics? He performs a large assay using multiple natural and synthetic substanced and his results here quite remarkable. The differences between specific HT2A agonists was profound, hinting at some other mechanism being involved. He's even run a study on rat asthma demonstrating the pysiologic effects. Very intersting stuff
Thank you so much , Dr. Younger. My daughter in the Netherlands, have been suffering from unexplained pain and extreme fatigue for many years for which she has found no help for , thus far. No diagnosis yet, mainly sent away with " normal" blood results and " it is all in your head" diagnosis....
I've been disabled since 1996 with degenerative disc disease and always looking for ways to try to cope with my chronic pain. I have spinal stenosis and neuropathy in both feet. The best I can do is THC oil, so I'm really interested in the research.
I'm very excited about this! I might be able to give it a shot and become an anecdotal report. FMS , chronic pain and fatigue for 40 years is long enough.
I have ME/CFS, not fibro, but find dextromethorphan helps reduce PEM on a short-term basis. Will be interested to see what it does as the active control in your study. Cheers from Australia 😊
Great! I wish I were a bit closer (in central NC). I was just wishing the other day I could visit Gulf Shores again - b/c the winter cold is making things worse & I remember how nice the gulf waters were, though it's still too early in the year for swimming. But given respiratory viruses, shoddy aircraft, and some passengers' shockingly anti-social behavior - I'm not sure I'm going to ever set foot on a plane again. The anti-inflammatory mechanism is interesting; psilocybin can tamp down NLRP3 activation. I don't know if fibromyalgia is the same as myofascial pain syndrome, but there was a paper * that linked carrier status for familial Mediterranean fever with myofascial pain syndrome. I'm an FMF gene carrier. * paper title '[Heterozygote forms of familial Mediterranean fever can be manifested in adults as myofacial pain syndrome]' translated from German
I was told today by a friend who is using only natural substances that her father , a cancer patient, is taking a spray under the tongue. It’s enough to get him over the bad days. As far as pain, she said no. ??????
Would you also consider psilocybin to be a potential treatment for ME/CFS, particularly due to its anti inflammatory effects in the brain? Additionally, fatigue is also a major component of fibromyalgia, are you following fatigue levels as a secondary outcome in the trial?
So happy I found your channel! IMO Fibromyalgia is used as a scapegoat when the Dr can’t quite put her finger on the actual problem. PS Love mushrooms 🍄

Thank you! I’d move to Alabama if I could get in trial. The sunny South would help even more I’m sure. I’ve prayed for the day you or another neurologist would do a trial. Living with chronic pain and debilitating fatigue is horrible. I tried something on my own and my life turned around from not being able to walk let alone live my life stolen at age 42. This worked and my intuitive ability was incredible,my “ original talents” soared, I excelled at music and my body was in the best shape possible for a person my age. I was willing to stop doing my own experiment. But synthetic medicine is not quite the same as the real plant- based treatment.

@@youngerlab thank you so much for your response. Do you think that you will always be using synthesized psilocybin or do you think in the future that studies will include natural psilocybin?
@factitiously why is it important to you that it is natural? It's the same thing. I use mushrooms now and then, but I would love it if I could get a synthesized version of it.
It's not the same thing. One is denatured and synthesized and the other is a whole plant food. It's important to me that it is the whole plant food because magic mushrooms have a safety track record of thousands of years. Whereas synthesized psilocybin only has a track record of as many studies it has been used in. So that's a very short time, which puts it in guinea pig territory. Just as eating sugar has very different effects on the body from chewing on sugar cane or eating broccoli versus taking a sulfurifane tablet. So it is that most denatured ingredients have a very different and usually detrimental effect on the body versus the whole original plant.
@@factitiously Fair enough. I just read up on it and I didn't realize there was as much of a difference. I can understand if you want a study where the whole mushroom is used, as there might be other things in the mushrooms that "add" to the experience. If you go by extracting the psilocybin from the mushrooms, which can be done, but is a pain to do, then I'm not sure it is as important, because from what I've read, synthesized compounds seem to be, in general, safer.
I was told in Palliative Care that I would be put on Ketamine. I had an instant gut reaction no. Idk why. So I never tried those. My niece, who I had no idea suffered horrible depression even though she had an idyllic life in an affluent community with her children and loving husband, was suicidal. They treated her with Ketamine. I heard that they told her only a few sessions were allowed. After her last she took her own life ; I have no idea if ketamine’s cause delusional state or not? Diet WAS her business. Selling turmeric ( I take 3 capsules with pepper ) and selling her juices. Apparently when one is that depressed, I guess nothing worked, but my family blamed the ketamine.
