- Because we can never have too many cute birds in our journals, I have another easy idea for you today. This one uses bright paper and various rectangles, and there’s even an articulated wing. I had fun using some prints I recently made from my foray into the gel plate world. (thanks to @julietorrens for her encouragement!)

If you’re looking for more junk journal ponderings…. Last summer, I made a limited-series podcast about all my deep thoughts regarding junk journaling. It’s free on the Spotify app! Search for “Ordinary Paper” or link here:
podcasters.spotify.com/pod/da...
Note that in the first episode, I mention that I was doing a podcast because I didn’t think I had enough ideas for a UA-cam channel. Things (happily) went a different way, so ummm, never mind on that! - Комедії
Oh my! The collaged whimsical animals of Clare Youngs!! The gorilla reminded me of some of the ones on the Little Big Planet’s video games. Some great, fun ideas! Inspiring. Thanks for sharing the link. ❤
I'm so glad to have discovered her as well!
Oh these Birds are just wonderful and they bring A big smile to my face 😁I have bought some of those small Brads and can't wait to try making some lovely Birds 😍p.s I think Gel printing is so satisfying and lots of fun ..
Oh, thank you! They make me smile, too (also make me do silly voices when they "fly") - so glad you also enjoy gel printing, I'm so eager to do more. Thanks for watching!
Anne these birdies are whimsical and can bend their legs any way they want. Right? Here is a little bird fact. Birds have knees (forward facing bends) and ankles (backwards facing bends). What we see is the ankle bend so it is backward facing. The knee is closer to the body and covered with feathers and birds stand on their toes. My birds aren't always anatomically correct either but they make me and my friends happy. Thanks for sharing your great ideas.
Well, I'll be darned, I actually thought I knew a lot about birds, but that's new to me - thank you, Renee!
Very interesting
Im in love with all your whimsy. YES MAM TO WHIMSICAL JOURNAL. love that idea. Please please please. Thanks anne. I remember reading my kids the sneeches.😊❤
Oh, Suzy, thank you so much - you really get me excited about continuing on this whole whimsy thing!
These are adorable. I wanna make me a whimsical birdie book now. Hmmm thinkin' we might could make a whimsical butterfly out of these same shapes. Also, I have tons of playing cards. How fun would those be to make into birds. Thanks so much, Anne! Enjoying your channel!
Kristi
Playing cards, BRILLIANT!!!!!! Kristi, that's a fabulous idea! Thanks for sharing it!
These birds are adorable! Also, I read "The Sneeches and Other Stories" as a child! I've read it to my kids and their kids for decades!
Isn't that the most precious book? Not the best-known of the Seuss stories, but it's always been my favorite, too. Such well-told, important lessons - and just plain fun! Have fun making your birds! And thanks for watching!
Love doing the first birds and I’m very excited to try these! My next thing to try is gel prints, that looks like fun! Here’s an idea, maybe you could try doing whimsical insects ( 🦋🐞 and 🐝)or little whimsical woodland animals ( 🐿 🦨 🐇🐭) lol….Thx so much and Love 💕 ❤your style!
Oh, thank you SO much! I'm so delighted you're enjoying them. And guess what, a woodland creature is most definitely in the lineup over the next couple of weeks! Thanks for watching, I appreciate you!
oh what fun!!!! I hauled out my bin of old mags- only 1 from 2018- not the correct one, but this seems easy enough. I have some Paper,CS in my bin from 2012 !!!!!!!! your birds are so sweet. tfs
Thanks, Kathy! I'm always amazed when I stop to look at magazines and truly appreciate the spectacular photography. Have fun with yours!
Im glad I found your channel, neighbor! I'm from Vancouver. Loving your whimsical creations.
Laurel, so glad you have tuned in! I would love to connect more with local junk journalers, I really don't know many here! Let's stay in touch! And thanks for watching!
Hi, Anne! In my opinion, whimsical things are so cute! I love these ideas! TFS! 🩷🩷 🐦🦜🦜🦜
Thanks so much! 😊 I am always so delighted to hear from you - do take care! More whimsical things coming soon!
@@annekenlon Wow! I´m so happy with this news! Thank you! 🩷🩷
And I just had to add … knees and ankles. Where are the claws! 😂😂😂😂 and it gets me when we say we’re going to cut or chop off the leg or whatever. My comedienne weeps, only a tad for I know it’s only whimsy. 😂😂❤
Exactly!!
Anne! He’s so cute. I’m working on a whimsical journal as well. I found the most beautiful color and pattern fabric in a thrift shop the other day. Thank you for these two tutorials I love birds and I’m going to include them in my journal. 😊❤
Wonderful! I am getting close to doing a full-on whimsical journal - probably later this month - and I'm thrilled that so many other great crafters are interested in doing the same! Let's have fun doing them together!
I would love to see a whimsical journal.
Thanks, Cathy! I am gradually getting that one together!
LOVE THIS IDEA. I really want to make a whimsical junk journal. So I need more ideas. Would love to see whimsical trees, animals, insects, houses, etc. thanks.
Thank you! I do have quite a few more whimsical treats planned for the months ahead - I appreciate your watching!
Yes me too
I was one of the people who found you Via . . . the Knotted Bird😀
Loved it and went on to find your Whimsical Birds, love them😀
Loving this . . . I have been using my makes on cards. I don’t do Journaling but certainly LOVE your birds.
💕🏴
Made small enough, these could absolutely go on a card! So glad you're joining me here, Patty - we might convince you to make a journal yet! :-)
Oh my goodness, Anne!
I adore your beautiful new flock of birds. They are absolutely fun. I can see a whole journal with a bird theme. Your watercolor flowers on bookpage would go so well with the birds too. 😀
Thank you so much for the shout out. It means the world to me. ❤ Your prints are fantastic 👏 👏👏👏👏
I am so glad you enjoyed the process.
Many thanks again for the mention and for sharing your lovely new birds! 🤗❤
Julie, thank YOU for all your creative inspiration! I am really eager to get more into gel plating, and your encouragement gives me confidence! Hugs to you, friend.
@@annekenlon ❤️❤️❤️
Another fab bird! Thanks for sharing 😊
Many thanks, Susie! I appreciate your watching!
When you removed for gluing, the beak,
The poor bird could not speak!
However, when glued the beak,
Very loudly did the bird SQAW-eeK! 😂❤
Very neat whimsical birds! And baths! I thought of the movie “The Birds” (Alfred Hitchcock) where the woman (mag page) ran from the birds! Those speech bubbles need a bird facing the curly-cue and the woman could be holding a tiny funky nest … or the tail or the body?
Thanks for telling us all the good info on the who and where. I’ll go look at the links.❤ thanks much!
So your delightful rhyme had me singing to myself..."head, shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes....." We're off on all sorts of tangents, aren't we? Thanks as always, Jenn!
@@annekenlon uh oh. That’s a reference I’m not familiar with or else have forgotten!🤣❤️
Your humor with this bird, I needed that this morning! Thanks. I did attempt one from your last video on whimsical birds but I failed. Gonna try it again!!! I want to learn all sorts of whimsical animals for journals!! I have been stuck with vintage style and I love love love vintage style. But I would love to learn a different style of journal too.
Thank you so much! Yes, I think expanding on our styles and building one look on top of another is one of the most exciting aspects of a creative life. Thanks for watching!
I love these birds too! I am one who started following you when you posted the other whimsical birds video! I have made several greeting cards with those birds and am so excited to try this method now too! Just so happy and adorable! Thanks again for sharing!
Oh, I am so happy to know these have become part of your portfolio, too! Thanks for letting me know, and thank you for watching!
Incredible you are so talented I love your birds. I think a whimsical journal is a wonderful idea I would definitely do it. Thank you for sharing your talent.
Thank you again, Marisol! I am getting together ideas for that whimsical journal that I've intended to do for months - I will definitely get to it this summer. So glad you are here to watch - many thanks!
I will be looking forward for it. Again thank you for sharing.
LOVE these little birds! Just made four of them and placed them on cards for a nursing home residents project I'm working on. You made it so easy to follow, and I look forward to watching more of your videos :)
What a delightful comment - so happy you can bring a smile to dear folks who have brought to much to others during their lives. Thank you for your generous spirit, and thank you for watching!
Love love love it!!!! Thank you.
You are so welcome! I so appreciate your watching - thank you!
Absolutely love them ... Thank you so much for showing us how to make them.❤
You are so welcome! I'm delighted you watched - thank you!
These are lively I tried your other birds too xx
Yay, thank you!
When you put the beak on, I said Bam he is a bird!!!!🐦 ❤❤❤
Maybe he's a blabber-beak!! Who knows WHAT he's out there talking about???!!!
These birds are super cute!
Thank you - glad they fluttered into your life!
these are very cute. I made one. I think I want to make them two sided. Bend the wings a bit (bigger wings for this) and hang them so they look like they flying. Will take a bit if fiddling with the balance, but I think they will be cheerful and fun
What a super idea! Thanks for sharing, and thanks for watching!
Love these.
Thanks so much, Cara! I appreciate your watching!
Love your birds I also love your fun side 😊
You are so kind, thank you, Sharon!
Darling birds.... Im going to make one right now
Oh, I love to hear that! Thanks so much - I'm sure yours are adorable!
I love whimsical!
Me, too! Thanks for watching!
I made your other whimsical bird out of the circle, loved them. These are so cool. Tfs
Thank you so much! There's no end of the fun we can have with birds, that's for sure!
Wonderful! Yes, I don’t think you can get tired of birds!! Thank you!
Thanks, Joanne! Glad everyone likes birds so much! I appreciate your watching!
This is such a cute project ❤
Thank you, Jeanette! I really have used these little guys so many times. Hope you have fun with yours!
I thought the legs on the second cousin was character. Loved it and love this!
Thanks, Margie! I know my cousins and I are all different - and so are these! But we all fit together somehow. Thanks for watching!
❤
These are way too cute! Thank you for sharing 😊❤
You are so welcome! Hope you make some soon - thanks for watching!
I LOVE the birds. I LOVE whimsy. AND your imagination in putting that bird on the rim of that drink - GENIUS!!! I ‘bout died of glee. ❤
You brought GLEE TO ME with your kind comment - thank you! Yes, that li'l guy was ready for happy hour!
I think the circle bird was actually an old sizzix video to show what you can do with their sites. Not as cute. This year they showed how to make rabbits out of their stacking circle dies. ❤❤❤
Wasn’t familiar with this, thank you!
I love whimsical birds, thanks for more ideas, these are really cute!
Glad you like them! There are more coming, too - thanks for watching!
So precious, love the birds. Thank you.
Thank you too, Mary!
Love these so much…made a few with Gelli prints and am making them into cards. Would love to see your take on other whimsical animals like dogs and cats!
Thank you so much, Julie! I really appreciate your feedback and I'm brewing up some future whimsical creatures to bring to you occasionally in the weeks ahead!
You did another great bird idea 😁❤️
Thank you! 😊 I'm so glad you watched!
Hi Anne. Yes!!! I have seen you before (you have just found my channel!) I knew your name & face looked familiar. I don't know if I mentioned the legs bending the wrong way, but I did think it. Those circle birds are genius despite the legs, but love the birds made from paper. The Whimsical papers you saw are for a humourous birds journal. So I will put some on the cover. I have some painted. But I might have a go at these & put them inside. Great stuff 😊😊😊💖💖💖
Thank you so much! I am thrilled to have connected - and I absolutely love your painted papers. I spent part of the afternoon doing some right along with you!
@@annekenlon Aw thank you so much. Yes I first saw your channel when your circle birds came up. Lol at the Whimsical Knees🤣. Love these new birds, too. I am going to add both types to my funny birds journal. ( It's for a swap within the UK. [Not My Group]). I have decided to make it Very Bright & Whimsical and have used those painted papers as pages. 😊😊😊💖💖💖
OMG....ANNE!!...THE FIRST COCKTAIL IS EXACTLY WHAT I WOULD HAVE USED! Thanks for the shout outs! I loved the creations! The Birds are so fun! I have not done any metal/hardware work yet with eyelets or how you did the moving wings. The ad with the little lady I thought WAS a collage...I would have made it..haha...love her...love the oncoming journal too...YES I SO WOULD PUT THAT BIRD ON THAT COCKTAIL and i will acquire that CLARE book and check JULIE out...i JUST started GEL PRINTS 2 weeks ago!! FREE as a BIRD!! ❤❤❤❤B
Brian, I really did think of you immediately when I found those magazine images. You inspire me to stretch my style, and the little birds fit right in! I love the beer sign you made me, and it's right in my craft room. Thanks for all you do! Talk to you soon!
I went to your YT and saw the bottle crate with nice heels (shoes) on a pair of legs sticking up. THAT is … different for sure! Quite quirky. I saw others but those legs stuck in my mind. I’ll never look at a paper soda crate the same again! 😂❤
@@jennr7500 well i have LOTS of quirky!...lots of different collages for Lots of Different folks!...TFW...stay tuned if so inclined!...B =)
these are cute and fun! 😊
Glad you like them!
Love the whimsical birds! Thank you for sharing your cute and creative ideas!
You are so welcome! Thanks for watching, Karen!
Thanks so much for this tutorial.
You are so welcome! Thanks for watching!
Fellow Oregonian here in Medford. Love these birds and made some of your whimsical ones from your other video. I will definitely try these. Thank you. I also appreciate the links. You just opened up a new world of techniques for me. 👍
Thank you so much, Lisa, I'm touched by your comment! Be well in Medford!
Love things beautiful birds! Keep the birds coming! TYFS!💖
Thank you, I will definitely keep them coming! Thanks for watching!
A friend and I are creating ephemera for an eclectic style journal. It's her first journal and only my second journal. I've been pulling out so many of the ideas that I have watched from your videos, and we are having so much fun that we have been getting together 1 to 2 times a week to work on them. Thank you for yet another wonderful idea for ephemera. I really like the whimsical journal idea, and I think I am going to be creating whimsical ephemera and then creating the journal to put them in. Between you and Natasha Whimsical is its own special category that I love. Keep those ideas coming. BTW I was thinking your whimsical house could be made as a hinge fold, and then you could really do those funky bumped outsides to the house. The writing space would then match and be contained behind the whimsical shape. It's just a variation that could be an additional whimsical house.😊❤
That’s an awesome idea. Now I gotta collect my whimsical things!!
Go find 'em!!! We have plenty of more whimsical fun coming down the pike, too! Thanks for watching!
😊you are such a joy to watch I love all your birds😊
You are so kind, Sharon, thank you so much! I'm so happy you're here with me!
Love these! So cute!
And just for the record, I loved the bent legs on the other one 😊
Awww, you're sweet, thank you, Mary!
New subbie here. Beautiful birds! TYFS so cute!
So happy you've joined me here - thank you for watching!
Lol, it's Portland, looking a bird on it
You know it! 🐧🐤🐦
Julie Torrens sent me!
Michele, I'm so glad you are here! Thank you so much! I adore Julie - we're becoming fast friends over the miles.
I love this so much! You’re so creative. Did it take you forever to get all your paper and cutting gadgets together? Thank you for sharing 🤗
Thanks so much, Kathy! I could answer your question two ways, actually. For the actual video, it probably took me less than 20 minutes to grab everything I needed and do a little stamping on the book margins for the wings. I had everything else pre-made. But at a higher level, it took me almost four years to accumulate various things that went into my stash for this project! I don't have nearly the big stash that a lot of crafters do, but I do have enough that my daughter worries a bit about what she'd do with it should anything suddenly happen to me!
Hi Anne, I've notice a mini paper trimmer in your videos. What kind is it and where did you purchase it? Thanks.
Hi, thanks for watching! That trimmer actually is so common it doesn't even have a brand name - which is, I'm sure, why I got it so cheaply. I'm pretty sure it was an Amazon purchase. If you search "mini paper trimmers - guillotine style" you can find several. When I looked on Amazon just a little bit ago, there was one available for under $14. Mine is not the best quality (the screws on the arm are constantly coming loose) but it does make a nice cut. Hope that helps!
@@annekenlon
Oh ok, thanks. I will search for one.
👍👍👍💕💕💕🇩🇰
Thank you so much for watching, Karen - glad you enjoyed it!
