  • Use double-sided tape to make this amazing trim that you can use in so many ways. Your junk journals have never looked so good! And we can all salute my friend Connie, who gave me this idea - she's a crafter extraordinaire!

If you’re looking for more junk journal ponderings…. Last summer, I made a limited-series podcast about all my deep thoughts regarding junk journaling. It’s free on the Spotify app! Search for “Ordinary Paper” or link here:
    podcasters.spotify.com/pod/da...
Note that in the first episode, I mention that I was doing a podcast because I didn’t think I had enough ideas for a UA-cam channel. Things (happily) went a different way, so ummm, never mind on that!

It’s cute to cut the fabric a bit bigger and fray the edge after sticking the tape down

Best to bond both sides of the envelope to keep it in place, not use cornstarch to hide sticky. Without extra tape it will slide too much. 😊

When you used the fabric tape from Connie the other day, I knew I wanted to try it. I have some leftover carpet tape now and will try that.
I think this option for placing the tape and fabric together might work. If you’re measuring the lengths of the tape with the fabric, take off about 1/2” more of the tape. From both ends of the tape, peel off about 1/4” of the backing (one at a time) and secure the sticky side to the mat. This places the sticky side up when ready to place the fabric. By removing a little bit of the backing at a time and adhering the fabric, there might be better control. Plus you can rest a hand or object on the backing if needed to steady the process. Pulling the backing off all at once would probably cause the tape to jump toward the fabric and make a mess. I thought of this because I thought of collaging fabric onto the tape. Adhering a fabric snippet with stitching would be cool and fun. Like you said, a ton of “applications”.
I got a rotary cutter back in my card making days c. 1996. You betcha to be careful. I deckled a finger when I was changing out blades. Something I’m still quite wary of doing! I think the basic blades came w it and I purchased extra back then. I ended up w a cutting, scoring, perforating, deckle, victorian and wave blade. I recently remembered to USE them. I’m still iffy about managing the blades.
I have my mother’s quilting and tailoring rulers. Some of the quilting ones (right?) have slots for cutting things. I haven’t used them yet- they’re intimidating when ya don’t know what to do with them besides a straight edge!
Oh yeah, I was wanting to tell you no! Turn the fabric over! 😂. And when you picked ticking I wanted the paisley and paisley I wanted the cherry fabric. But they turned out just fine. 😅. Did you put a thumb Mitch - who is “Mitch”?!! I typed “notch”! in the plaid?
I hadn’t thought about the difficulty of lining envelopes w book pages, so yeah- that envelope looked great and worked nicely in the journal whose video I need to completely watch!
And the cover to that journal sure looked leathery! Fine job w the stitching!
Okay 🧐 is that “it”? 😂
Enjoyed the vid and discussion. Thanks also to Connie!
    ❤❤

      @annekenlon  2 місяці тому +1

What great ideas on the carpet tape! The adhesive is really strong on that stuff, but careful handling could help avert problems! No, I didn't put a thumb notch in the plaid strip - I usually do with pockets, but didn't think my circle punch was up to the challenge. Thanks for watching, as always!

I'm curious if your fabric was prewashed. I know many quilters prewash but I never have because I prefer to work with a stiffer fabric. But now I thinking for junk journsls I might want it softer.

Good questions! If I get my fabric new, I typically don't prewash my cotton fabrics as I like working with the sizing in the new fabric. But if it's something I pick up at a thrift store, as I often do, I will prewash. Thanks for watching!

Is this the ultra thin or the max strength?

Hi, Edie! It’s the ultra thin. Thanks for asking!

I don't understand what you do with this. Is it for scrapbooking?

It's an embellishment for a journal page or element like a pocket - but it can also be a useful adhesive, like attaching the envelope with a hinge. It also adds a textural element to a page, so it makes things a bit more interactive, inviting you to touch and feel. Thanks for watching!
