I can’t give OP sympathy when she foolishly thought they would change, buying them a house; A bleeding HOUSE. She should have left them to their rotten harvest that day and never gone to that dinner
I totally get your frustration. A house is a huge gift, and it’s painful to see someone give that much to people who clearly don’t deserve it. But you know how it is - sometimes we hope people will change because we want to believe in them. It’s a tough lesson to learn, though.
The level of entitlement it takes to exclude you from the housewarming party for your own home is mind-blowing; I hope you showed them who truly owns the place...
I can’t believe they’d throw a party in your house and have the audacity to ban you from it,what kind of logic is that, and why do they think this behavior is okay??? love story
Right? It’s such a tricky situation. Sometimes it’s out of guilt or a desire to keep the peace, even when it’s not healthy. Boundaries are so important in situations like this!
Lol I wouldn't even give a key to my mother, who is the least toxic person I know of, and that's just because I know she'd pop in whenever she felt like it and I'm definitely not the one to appreciate surprise guests.
A bleeding HOUSE” - I felt that! Seriously, though, I think we’ve all been guilty of giving too much to people who don’t deserve it. Maybe not a house, but you know what I mean. It’s easy to say “walk away,” but when it’s family, emotions cloud your judgment. Hindsight’s 20/20, right?
Some people are just selfish, and don’t ever see any reason to change. They were NEVER going to love Ashley, because they were told by the grandparents to have her, and they were not allowed to dissent.
It’s honestly so disrespectful to treat you this way after you’ve generously let them use your home,it sounds like they’re taking advantage of your kindness...
Agreed, 18ish years of being treated as an afterthought and a burden but somehow though the parents would suddenly change just because the daughter rewarded that terrible behavior.
You bring up an interesting point! While it's heartbreaking how she was treated, it’s true that recognizing toxic patterns earlier could’ve helped her take control sooner. But healing takes time, and sometimes we don’t see it until we’re ready.
If i were ashley and my parents treated me like that for 17-18 years and to be told they wouldn't be paying for my college education, i would've been done right then and there. OP doesn't mention if her parents had kept in touch throughout her life after going to college just before her grandparents passed, but my bet, they couldn't give a rats ass about her. Only after finding out she had money did they show interest. I have no doubts if she were broke and struggling the parents would've continued to ignore her. She should've done the funeral arrangements by herself, left the hearing, and never looked back.
She should have never gone to the house after the funeral. She was never accepted to their family. She was just an ATM. After they were given a new home, they did not even invite her for the housewarming. I think she should have kept the title in her name so they would not give to golden child.
Right? It’s so painful to see someone give so much and get so little in return. Not being invited to the housewarming was such a slap in the face. Keeping the title would’ve definitely set a boundary-great point!
I hate the phrase "they're still my parents". Parents are more than an orgasm, or someone who " exspelled you out of their body. These people are not parents nor do they qualify as human nor do they deserve human treatment.
Its ur own doing, u thought money could buy long lost love from ur parents but before the day was out , they showed their true love but it was never u !! Enjoy the moment in time.
You’re not wrong that their actions revealed a lot about where their priorities lie. It’s tough realizing that love can’t always be reciprocated, no matter how much you hope. But hey, I’m still standing, and that’s what matters.
You'd be surprised at how some people who were neglected for their entire life cling to the idea that their parents will one day acknowledge them. I have zero sympathy for such people when the parents sucker them into buying them a house only to keep treating them as if they never existed to begin with.
I’m curious what excuse they gave for banning you, either way, it’s completely unacceptable, and I hope you made it clear they can’t walk all over you... great story
Did anyone actually watch the story before commenting? She bought a house for her parents. They did not invite her to the housewarming. Rude and entitled but not the same as kicking her out of her own party at a property In which she resided.
One of the crappiest story in my life! Nothing exiting, dragng out and tastless tale of a woman yarn for the parents love for years, only to find forgiveness at their deathbed. So many poetic words for nothing...😮💨😮💨😮💨😮💨😮💨

Its an AI story.. 100% bs

Why do children give keys to their house to toxic parents?
Right? It’s such a tricky situation. Sometimes it’s out of guilt or a desire to keep the peace, even when it’s not healthy. Boundaries are so important in situations like this!
A child is like clay in the parent's hands. It's not difficult to shatter the confidence and self-respect of a person controlled since birth.

How stupid can you be? Didn't you know they just wanted your money? If the house is in your name throw them out!!!😡😡😡😡😡😡

Wow beautiful story of atonement, and forgiving and release.......I really enjoyed it!
Sounds like my parents. I grew up knowing the kind a person I wanted to be. It was nothing like them.
Wouldn't have bothered with those parents. Hope she got no begging bowl from the sister's family
It’s honestly so disrespectful to treat you this way after you’ve generously let them use your home,it sounds like they’re taking advantage of your kindness...
Sounds like another stupid OP who got treated exactly like she should've, given her absurd and embarrassing level of gullibility...SMH
neglected daughter should have wised up years ago .She is also responsible for her own treatment even if it was wrong of her parents

They'll miss the skivvy when she goes off to college.

This story is complete BS. A lifetime of neglect does not go away just because they are old and say they are sorry. Op is a simp and spineless.

Missed the forest for the trees!!! What part of they don't give a crap about her did she not understand. Some people's kids.
"Neat" was the description you used referring to help with funeral arrangements?
I’m curious what excuse they gave for banning you, either way, it’s completely unacceptable, and I hope you made it clear they can’t walk all over you... great story
Finish the sentences, they are being chopped off now. This is not a way to make people listen. Thumbs down for not checking for these kinds of errors.
Maybe Google how to edit audio & video 🤔..

It's not just rude, it's disrespectful AF. They wouldn't have that home or even dreamed of that home if it weren't for Ashley.
🤧

Why complaining?
