    This is awesome! Will you be adding
    full courses (similar to the amazing courses for conga, bingo, and timbales) for guiro, maracas, and other auxiliary percussion?

    • @CongaChops
      @CongaChops  2 роки тому +3

      Full courses dedicated solely to minor percussion probably not, but just like these short tutorials we will cover the basics and their involvement in the grander scheme of things : )

    They differ in tone, one from the other. They are called "macho y hembra" for the difference in tone. It came to me that the hand which you use for each is different acording to the tone, right or left hand. I forgot the instruction. Can you explain?

    • @CongaChops
      @CongaChops  9 місяців тому

      I’ve never heard the distinction in tone of a pair of maracas be referred to as “macho y hembra” when the maracas are both the same size. The term commonly indicates a difference in size between two instruments/drums. In the case of this style of maracas, the difference in pitch is more of a side effect, as opposed a deliberately sought after difference like when tuning a bongo for example. As for which (slightly lower or slightly higher pitched) maraca should be in your pulse keeping hand, that’s completely up to personal preference. In many cases folks will default to having the slightly higher pitched in their dominant hand. Hope that helps!

      @@CongaChops Thanks for your response. This observation I am selling it to you wholesale for when it came to me I was completely fresh to my interest in percussion. The macho hembra distinction was totally matter of fact in reference to the difference in tone, which was also matter of fact. I assumed it was due to having being built to make them sound different and macho hembra came by default, as in drums, as you point out. To tell you the truth I perceive a difference in tone but am not certain it is due to the maracas, as opposed to my own right-left hearing. Probably the reference is very old school, from before your time, which I would not be surprised. Your style of exposure is new to me, it is very good, your accent shows but so is your knowlwdge and control of the english language. It is a refreshing style of exposure and diction. Congratulations and Blessings. Keep it up for percussion is the most democratic form of musical expression. I am not sure if you are Puertorican, I suppose you are, but Puertorican percussion is among the most democratic of all.

      That depends who you ask! Impossible to trace and verify with 100% certainty. Unless you have a time machine I can borrow, in which case there are a few things I’d like to see 😅

    Los Mapuches no vivieron en el centro de Chile limitaron al centro con el imperio Inca que llegaba hasta Stgo, su ubicacion siempre fue AL SUR del biobio, y no tienen ninguna palabra ni instrumento similar a las maracas , el kultrun solo tiene una semilla adentro y es un tambor redondo y las cascawuillas son basicamente un cascabel, nada hay similar a las maracas ni tampoco esa palabra, ultimamente hay una fuerte politica indigenista en mi pais que intenta vincularlos con otros grupos para generar un discurso de "opresor oprimido" incluso copiaron el BLM por mapuches lives matter, la explicacion que das en el video me deja mas una sensacion de activismo politico que de exactitud musical.

      Imposible definir con certeza absoluto el origen de la palabra tanto como del instrumento. No contamos con ninguna afiliación ni agenda política. El hecho de que hayas llegado a esa conclusión, pues no se que decirte.
