Hell ya. I like how she brought up the theatre. That's good training. That's how I got my start. Denzel said you learn to act on the stage. Tried to tell my friend that but he's not open to the Theatre world. Everybody wants to just be a movie star.

Respectfully, I’m an extra who was asked via email to put together a self-tape for a business woman. (I’m also a solopreneur so, I used the decades of biz presentations + audience handling (for my Second Reader entity).)
I mean, I vaguely recall an improvisational class a decade ago. …Doing this self-tape was HARD. A few days of no sleep = a cold. However! I was then asked to do a tape reciting sides(!). SO exciting, but also HARD. We will see what the future holds🌬️🕊️. CHEERS💚.

Hello Wendy, I have to tell you I have tried so many times in the past to be an actor and have gotten nowhere. I don't even have a resume to put together, let-alone experience to put together a demo reel. Or any money for that matter, and to add insult you can't do much during COVID. I want to join Backstage, but they want everything you just mentioned. It's like going to the DMV to get an ID and they say "Sure just show me your ID. That's what frustrates me, I want the experience, but the jobs on Backstage wants you to already have that. What is someone like me is supposed to do?

My biggest frustration is that there seems to be a devaluing of acting/performance courses taken at university. I minored in performance at a university with an excellent theatre program and educators, and it seems that agencies, managers, and agents want to overlook this. These courses may not look "traditional" on paper but are way more resourceful and legitimate when compared to some of the scams and "workshops" that others choose to take. Are courses taken at university considered when looking at our resumes? Thanks!

Wendy, I have a question. Maybe you can make a video about this, too? I am an actress, I love the audition process and have absolutely no anxiety when going into the room, however, I have one major problem: I prepare, I know my lines by heart, I have made strong choices, but the FIRST time in a NEW audition room, I end up on the mark and suddenly feel totally DISORIENTED and come across like a joke who hasn't prepared enough. Today, I bombed an audition and I'm feeling so horrible for the rest of the day, even though I self-taped myself x times before and was able to do everything right while going through the sides in front of the audition room. Then it just happened. The room was brand-new, a new casting team, I just blacked out. Fortunately, I remained all calm and collected as usual. As I left the room, the casting director said, it was good, and I got angry on my way home because of myself and his fake words of encouragement because I just knew, it was terrible and I could have probably done better had I known the room before. Thus, I'm hoping he will invite me back one day for another role and I can show him.
The same happened to me at my very first audition. I was disoriented in a new room, but the second time I felt very comfortable going into her audition room and the casting director booked me. My friends tell me to cheer up.

Quick question. I'm watching your videos ( haven't watch all of them just yet so maybe the answer to my question is in one of the videos I haven't seen). When I create my resume, what do I put if I have no experience for TV and film? But I have multiple classes I've taken. Since I'm starting out, wouldn't it look funny that I have blank experience but tons of education? Or would that just tell you I'm starting out but committed to train and learn this profession?

Hi Wendy! Thanks for all of this helpful information! My significant other is an actor looking to re-enter the field and has no agent or manager and we decided to work together, me acting as his manager...sort of co-managing with him, so he is taking more control of his career this time around, at least to start...and I have a lot to learn (and am so thankful to have found your channel) but I am good at managing and communication skills...however I am curious if you think it would be best for him to submit for auditions, or should I do it, until he gets an agent? Formerly his manager was submitting for him because he had no agent, but his relationship with his manager ended. Thank you! Also, should the email address be your name? Whether he submits or I do, I feel like maybe it should be a special email account specifically for this work? He just uses one personal one for everything, and I have a professional email but it is for my own work related to another industry. If there is a specific book of yours you'd advise me to get, please let me know. Thank you!
