My group of friends made sure to go see SplitLip every time they were within a 100 mile radius after seeing them play The String Summit at Horning’s Hideout in the early 2000’s. Then A buddy heard the news about Kurt and we drove two days straight from Seattle in my 1985 spray can painted, flat black, RX-7 just to see this concert. Even met Kurt’s parents after the show as we were gassing up for the drive home. Apparently they lived in Washington St as well and they struck up a conversation based off my license plates, and they inquired as to why we were so far from home. Told them we came to see a band play, which they inquired who. Told them SplitLip Rayfield not expecting them to know who we were talking about. That’s when they introduced themselves as Kurt’s parent and then they actually invited us to come have dinner with them and meet the boys. I couldn’t believe what was happening or the odds, really but unfortunately we had to said thank you but pass up their amazing offer as we had to be on our way, but wanted them to thank the entire band as they had made a true mark in our lives. As our commute was long and we had both families and jobs waiting on our return we just couldn’t afford to be late. 16 years later and I still regret turning down their kind offer, especially with Kurt’s passing only a few months later. 16 years and now I’m waiting for them to come back to Washington so I can introduce my oldest son to another amazing band. Not quite the same without Kurt but I still love the sound.
@@hoppyjohnson8571 I wonder if someone was messing with you. Kirk’s father and stepmother live a few blocks away from me in Kansas and have for at least 40 years. His mother passed away in the late 90s.
Drove 2 days straight from Seattle to see this concert. Met Kirk’s parents at a corner store near the venue right after the show. They started up a conversation after they saw the Washington plates on my car. I told them about our trip and why we did it and they invited us to have dinner with them and Kirk. Very nice couple but I politely declined the invite and have always regretted it. Anyways such a fun trip and a great show. RIP Kirk.
