    Just in case you want to see more of it. The third chateau has been on several urbex you tube channels. Its beatiful, but definitely in need of immediate waterproofing and suring up the structure. That being said i think its definitely worth being saved, just maybe at a lower price due to the immediate high cost works needed. Thanks again for doing the leg work. You are top on our list of who to contact when its time for us to move, especially since you started offering the services for those of us coming from the US.

    If you've got money to burn go ahead. Otherwise get real. However gorgeous these old houses look, they're high maintenance and not everyone has either the skills or energy to tackle it.

    Thank you for this, it is very interesting. I'm starting to want to find out more about how one goes about buying a chateau, not being a French citizen.

      Anyone from anywhere can buy a house in France the same way as the French. What you need to look at is the visa side so you can at least come to the property

    New subscriber here. Loved your honest commentary about the properties. I too find it annoying when realtors and even vlogers include closeup artsy-fartsy photos and film segments.

    crazy to think such nice former homes standing empty, but I'd assume that the purchase price is the last of the worry on the "lower" priced ones.

    thanks for the video. I was wondering if you have to renovate it to look just like it is now, or can you knock the whole roof and towers off and put on a plain looking, two sided roof?

    • @FrenchEstateAgent
      @FrenchEstateAgent  Місяць тому +1

      ERrrhhhhhhh... well two things, first of that you need to see if a listed building or not, if so, NOOOO!!!! Secondly, the majority of people buying cheap chateaux are doing it for an urge to recreate the former beauty, not just making a house out of it, as there are plenty of non-chateau properties to do that!

      @@FrenchEstateAgent hehe, I know, But the cost of renovating the roof and all the floors will cost a fortune and last for years... The thing is, there is a lot of property that comes with the building, which in itself is worth the money. :) Thanks for your response.

    Are these properties always historically listed and a pain in the arse to renovate with big govt dictating what you can do?

      @@FrenchEstateAgent Cheers mate. One of the things that disgusts me the most about "govts", especially in western europe, is that they will gladly watch buildings fall into complete ruin, until someone with money and the will to save them comes along. Then and only then, does the govt wake up, push their chest out and state that they will do everything in their power to make your project as miserable and expensive as possible.

      @@FrenchEstateAgent IF I were able to purchase a Chateau I would try to find one that matched my decorating style preferences to avoid doing a lot of work. Paint is one thing but repairing a property with serious issues due to years of neglect can add up to more than the average DIYer can manage on their own and drain a bank account before significant progress is accomplished. Renovating an old kitchen would not bother me but a leaking roof and significant water damage from said roof will make anyone with less than contractor skills cross a property off their list. I would also be looking at property's under 250 m2 living space due to the cost of heating. I thank you for replying to my comment you have a very nice channel here on YT. I just subscribed.

      Fair comment, but I think you have have missed a bit of the point. If you watch my other videos, you will see that I mention having a a higher budget and the “Escape to the Chateau” days of buying a useable chateau at 400k are gone. But there are always those that want to start from base and work up.
