To me, the time between The Joshua Tree and when Rattle & Hum came out was the peak.....and this version of this song is my fav of all time. The driving drum beat....the hypnotic guitar playing....the voice of Bono.....can't do better in my opinion!
Great job! Definitely, the left floor tom is one of Larry's trademarks. In god's country (specially in the Rattle and Hum movie) is another good example. Larry is not a super virtuous player but he's a very talented musician who's always looking for the best resources to serve the purpose of tye song. He played a couple of years ago in an Alice Cooper record; in an interview, Cooper said that he was very surprised by the fact that Larry asked for all the lyrics before actually starting to listen to the material. He likes to be within the song and using the drums as an emoctional, dramatic tool.
Holy sh*t... That is some amazing drumming! This is *the best* version I've seen yet! It looks like A LOT of practice was needed during 4:13 to 4:15 and 4:29 to 4:32. Nice job!
Hey man, amazing job. I’m not a drummer but a huge U2 fan and this version of With or Without you from Rattle & Hum is the rarest and best there ever is. I’ve been to see them play several times through the 90’s, noighties and now in the noughtie tens and never seen them replicate this version of the song. The entire stretch from 3:50 onwards gives me goosebumps every time I see it, and that image when Bono turns to Larry and then you see Larry and the Edge cocooned in their moment from 4:15 onwards is just epic. I love Larry’s drumming and always get annoyed when the cameras don’t focus on him in this song because for me it’s ALLL ABOUT the percussion. Amazing job for recreating it. I can see how complex a track it is to keep a beat to. Well done and best wishes.
Thanks. Larry Mullen Jr was really inspired when he created that part. It really sounds like a band of 4 working together: Larry builds a base increasing volume little by little, for Adam to use higher notes, calling The Edge to prepare the Climax and Bono completes it. Teamwork. :)
the truth of perfect has nothing. if it is perfect it must be faithful to the original sound. I realized that he gave a start at minute 2:35 and there Larry doesn't give a start, and from minute 3:09 I use the hi hat or setbacks where not, or at least in the original audio it is not heard. If you want to hear the perfection in a drum cover of this song, I leave this link ua-cam.com/video/6rt0dtycP-k/v-deo.html by the way I apologize with my English, I'm from Mexico and I'm just perfecting it
Thank you. This one is a generic boom stand that I got back in Brazil. Any stand that has the 1st stage with the height close enough to the floor tom works
@@JeenFab Well, I play it like this since late 90ies. I don't think I had problems with speed, but I did start with no dynamic at all, hitting all beats with same intensity. You can try slower with UA-cam at 0.75x. Let me know how it goes
It's an Odery 12x7 made of a brazilian hard wood with ambassador coated head. Larry used for rattle and hum, achtung baby and zoo tv tour an australian Brady 12x7 block snare with clear head. For ATYCLB album and tour he used same snare with coated head. Still my favorite sound. To get zoo tv tone, tune high the head and regulate resonance with the bottom. I've done this before and it sounds brilliant!
The beggining (and throughout the song) is a playback sequence. Larry plays on top of it. The actual floor tom has a different sound compared to the sequence
w5cdt Hi w5cdt! I'm just emulating the setup. I'm right handed, so is Larry. On several songs Larry plays in a similar way using the right hand only. Example: One, where he plays hi hat and snare with right hand and the left hand remains waiting for one single hit on the left floor tom.
Kurtis, if you think it's easy, then you're provably playing it wrong. I've posted this video after years of not seeing anyone playing it the right way. But if I'm wrong and you're playing with all of its dynamics and ghosts beats, then I congratulate you! And thanks for the comment.
That is the most melodious drum cover I’ve ever heard 🤘
This video was incredible. I will definitely save it to study later.
God I was obsessed with U2 when Rattle and Hum came out. Just saying. Great job! 👍
Me too. But now I think their shite.
@@ilikechocolatealot6355 ...aww...theyre not shite...their music is still there. Maybe the best music catalog ever.

@@philipmayle5673 Thanks! This was recorded in 2013. At that time, 19 years.
Best drum cover I have seen on UA-cam of this song. Great job.
U2 the soundtrack to my life! Great cover!
The best drum cover of With Or Without You on UA-cam, great work...
Ma préférée !! Mais quelle voix envoutante j'adore . La rythmique est exceptionnelle !! Bravo et merci 😍
Closest to the original out of all the covers on UA-cam
Thank you TJ
Great cover
Fantastic Thank you for playing the best of u2 with or withyou
This guy should be famous !
I cracked a few smiles watching this. Thanks man. Nice job.
Lovely drumming man, simple to follow but very close to the source in execution. Cheers!

Nice . Like the split screen.
Well played Sir, very well done. probably the closest I have come to seeing Larry play it himself!
Thank you!
Cooper os the best on this one
Wish Larry still played it this way with the accented floor tom. We'll see this summer.
Exactly is Amazing
Great job big man, love it 👍🍻

Best drum cover , well done 💯👍

Good job sir. Great cover. Like many here in the comments, it was a formative album for me when I learning drums without any tuition.
Excellent recreation, love it!

Thank you. This one is a generic boom stand that I got back in Brazil. Any stand that has the 1st stage with the height close enough to the floor tom works
Little late, but how do you play the floor Tom so quick?
It's not as quick as it appears to be in video. Give it a try. The hardest part is to keep the dynamic on each hit on the floor tom.
@@MrVronscki well, i try alot, but how did you approach it, did you Just start out slow and became quicker or did you do exercises for it

Yes I will. I'll let you know when I do. Thanks

Rodrigo Vronscki Ricardo im still waiting for your video XD
whats the tuning for the floor tom ? is it E ?
As I used a 16 inch, instead of 18 inch, I tried to go as low as I could to simulate the depth of the 18.
It's somewhere close to D.
the floor toms are not played in the beginning? (I can clearly hear it on the track.)
The beggining (and throughout the song) is a playback sequence. Larry plays on top of it. The actual floor tom has a different sound compared to the sequence
vlear. but why?
@@laszlokovacs5885 depth
You don’t hear the drums in the beginning?
The beginning is sequenced drums. Larry only plays the tambourine.
Just curious...are you left handed or just emulating U2 drummer's set up?
w5cdt Hi w5cdt! I'm just emulating the setup. I'm right handed, so is Larry.
On several songs Larry plays in a similar way using the right hand only. Example: One, where he plays hi hat and snare with right hand and the left hand remains waiting for one single hit on the left floor tom.

Good drumming. Sadly your drum set sounds soo bad. what model is that?
De cuando Larry era bueno.....
are you left handed? cuz my snares on the right not the left
Captain Skater No, I'm right handed. Just use the your floor tom on the right of your snare. Cheers
manque juste la grosse caisse en video
the easiest drum to cover
