- In China, Zongman owns a dozen cormorants that he fishes for himself; they obey his voice and follow him wherever he goes. The cormorants bring several kilos of fish with them every day.

I dont think you watched the video, he didn't create anything, this method is as old as China itself and he literally was raised by his family to carry on the tradition.
Also the birds are obeying his commands because he trained them to do that, they aren't rewarding him if anything he rewards them for listening to him, again I think you need to watch the video once more.

I grew up speaking English and Spanish. Though I don't understand their languages I have been around many Native Americans from different tribes when I was younger. His manner of speaking and the sounds he makes reminds me very much of them.

Wow! That is amazing! Cormorants are really regal beautiful birds. I never had the feeling they had any potential to "fraternize" or even allow humans to be anywhere near them. I've witnessed them from afar many, many times in the McLusky canal in Turtle lake North Dakota. Pretty amazing to see them working in tandem with humans.

In the Keys growing up they were always quite friendly with me and the other kids, I had one who just loved to come swimming with us and dive together. Never fed him.

No es una relación simbiótica. En una relacion simbiotica se benefician ambas especies de la "cooperacion". Aqui se trata de un caso de explotacion, tortura y esclavitud hacia el cormoran.. al que le amarran el cuello para evitar que se coman los peces que atrapan, y los condicionan desde chicos para obedecer al humano.

If he would stop jumping up and down on the raft slapping the water with the stick and screaming and chanting I feel like he wouldn't be scaring all the fish away and his Birds could probably find bigger and better fish easier and faster for some reason I feel irritated watching this
This documentary is a peice of art.
So, this video was released in 1993. It seems unlikely to me that Zhong Man is still around nor, in the age of cell phones, do I hold any hope that his grandson took over, so I'm sort of sad having watched this. This is the sort of thing I watched a lot as a kid and now much later I feel like a great deal of tradition has simply been tossed in the last 30 years.
Traditions are reborn with time.

Thank you for showing❤️🌸 His method of Cormorants shows trust and humanistic, different from what I saw Japanese method of using same birds by tying ropes around their throats and keeping in close range. It is considered skilled task to keep birds within controll without tangling the ropes. Very interesting tradition and skills based on the intuitive connection with birds and nature. 🤗💕🕊️
In fact, there are also ropes wrapped around the throat, which can be seen in the close-up at 14:23, but the director avoided this problem. If the rope is not wrapped, the Cormorant will instinctively swallow the fish.
@@user-ng1qd4bn4s Not all birds have a rope, it seems only some of them do. Perhaps it is the ones that cannot be trained to ignore their instinct to swallow the fish.

when somebody makes a cut from one scene to another, the audience will interpret the two adjacent images as related (see: kuleshov effect).
for example: if you have a scene showing a bird, where the narrator explains “the bird’s owner wants to arrange a marriage for this bird”, and then hard cut to a a woman, the audience will (just for a moment) assume: that lady is gonna marry the bird.
