    I find it interesting how every farmer unwraps and load bales differently. Ever thought of buy a hydrolic top link I find them very good for bale feeders. Awesome video

      Haha yeah I’m the same, we all do it so differently! I have used one and it was awesome just never put it on with this 👍

    Cheers Andrew for the review. Nice thin windrow, you nailed it for the first time using the machine. Angus was happy to meet you and to drop the feeder at your farm the other day. Like you said, happy to hear the good & the bad, it's listening to farmers who use our gear that helps us to improve our equipment and ultimately (that's the goal anyway) makes the entire operation more efficient.

    The old machine looks to be in good condition for 16 years old, it's good to see you look after your gear well done.

    That really put the bale out nice and even.. A few small changes in 16 years, just shows how handy a piece of kit it really is 👍🏼

      True, but tiny details can make a huge difference. Talk to our R&D team who tried.... 86 iterations of the wiper panel (the front part that discharge the feed from the top rotors). The poor boys must have pulled their hair out on that one 😂

    Very good video thanks Andrew as always 👍. Nice machine alright but I don't think you will be buying it as your own one is still doing a good enough job for another while. 😀. Hope you get some more rain soon.

    Looks like it works good I guess direction on how the bale was bale was rolled would unroll easier but that would be hard to determine since in plastic. How you make out on weather. Would be interesting to know how weather here effect patterns there? Or vise versa Have a great day

    • @TheOnceADayFarmer
      @TheOnceADayFarmer  2 роки тому

      Yep that’s a good point! It definitely makes a huge difference which way its baled and fed, very hard to tell when putting it on tho 😂
      Hmmm I’m not to sure how your weather impacts on ours to be honest and if there’s any patterns 🤷

    This may be off topic for this video, but I’ve been wondering how once a day milking/ 7 weeks no milking compares financially with twice a day milking year around. Does once a day cut income in half? Is the loss of income made up in less stress for the farmer? I subscribed about a month ago and have started at the beginning watching videos, but haven’t watched them all, so maybe you have covered this topic and I haven’t seen it. If so, I apologize.

    does it look like you will have enough feed before the new crops are ready? I remember you counting the bales a while back. Also I do not remember if you did a video of how you feed minerals and supplemental protein and other grains when you have different herds in your herd. Thanks Andrew.

    Do you have cold weather in the winter if so how do you keep things from freezing. Especially when you are milking

    • @trevorstewart8
      @trevorstewart8 2 роки тому

      That part of NZ is middle of the North Island and does get 4C deg (22F deg) in winter which with overnight humidity can generate a frost, so not a huge problem there, apart from feeling bitterly cold in open country.

    • @TheOnceADayFarmer
      @TheOnceADayFarmer  2 роки тому

      Our winters are pretty mild compared to some places, down south it gets pretty cold with quite a bit of snow. But we don’t milk through the winter so don’t have that problem, if we did tho I don’t think it’d get that cold where everything froze 🤷👍

    Funny was sat here thinking how do you get the bale in when you had it attached to the back of the loader tractor. Clever design and changed little in 16 years. Hope they do you a super discount for a good review🤔. Doesn’t look much wrong with the old one though.

    does it matter how the bale was turned when it was made and you have to rewind the bale for the best result

    • @trevorstewart8
      @trevorstewart8 2 роки тому

      It needs to rotate upwards to spill the silage, but you can turn it and reposition. if loaded the other way rolling downwards it would spill the feed to quickly in lumps. The cattle need to take the feed slowly as silage is so rich it will give them stomach problems.

    • @TheOnceADayFarmer
      @TheOnceADayFarmer  2 роки тому

      Yep that’s a valid point, and does make a big difference when feeding out. That’s the Benefit of the chained ones is that they can feed out both directions 👍
