This was the one concert which I heard in Chembur, Bombay back in 1062 and made me a diehard fan of BMK's music for life. Elsewhere I have mentioned how BMK completely bamboozled the old veterans of carnatic music attending this concert by springing a great surprise by singing the swaras of raga Mohanangi in the Todi rtp phase, something which got embedded in my psyche firmly since then and I can still recall the swaras the way the master sang then. Of course he was in the prime of his youth and quite adventurous as always. The concert left an indelible impression with jewels like brihadeeswara mahadeva, pibare ramarasam and of course the electable mahaneeya madura moorthay in raga mahati, among many memorable pieces including thyagaraja kriti in nayaki raga kanikara sowkyamu. All in all one of the best concerts of the maestro along with equally compelling violin by MSG and superb mridangam by TVG. Thank you Sri Jayaram Sataluri for uploading this beautiful music for the pleasure of music lovers. Here's to wishing you a happy time in uploading more such riveting music by genius BMK and MSG and of course the great TVG who continues to charm people with his singing and mridangam playing as well. God bless.
Thank you sir for the kind words and sharing your memories of the concert. The next day the trio gave another concert at the Andhra Mahasabha in Mumbai with Sundari Nee Divya Rupamu as main. Here it is: ua-cam.com/video/ZR8croXqyeU/v-deo.html
Yes I have heard this Sundari ni Divya roopamu, after a brilliant exposition of Kalyani raga, one of the most memorable pieces in that genre, which only BMK and MSG could have pulled it off so effortlessly. I have this recordings with me and from time to time I indulge myself, soak myself in this marvel. Yes this one Sri Jayaram Sataluri is immortal music. Thank you for rekindling such beautiful memories of the maestros.
Dear Sri. Jayram Sataluri, Could I please have copies of all concerts that you have of The Fine Arts Soceity, Chembur. We would like to preserve these in our archives. Thanks in advance. Regards K. Ganesh Kumar, Chairman, the Fine Arts Soceity - 9892168688
We are all fortunate, Sriram Garu! KrishnaTraya has provided a concert that brings the whole world together! Have you only been listening to Kambhoji? Or have you added Nattai, Mahathi, Nayaki, Shruthiranjani, Abheri, Thodi, Kanada, Bahudari, Ahir Bhairav and Hindolam too? 😉
@@JayramSataluri I listen to every soundbite of his 🙂 Its just that sometimes I get into loop of over and over about a specific piece and then move on to other renditions. unlimited buffet and no end to bliss
There is no doubt muraLi gANam has completely engulfed you, Sriram Garu. Every single muraLi moment is bliss. Just to confirm, it doesn't matter what year or decade, you will listen to anything muraLi gANam? Have you had a chance to listen to the Andhra Mahasabha concert? ua-cam.com/video/ZR8croXqyeU/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared You would be pleased to know that it took place the next day after this concert.
Good to hear from you, Sriram garu. Hope all is well. Doesn't this Kambhoji feel fresh today even after over 6 decades? And KrishnaTraya (BMK-MSG-TVG) are in perfect sync. One can never get enough of it and I know you are one of them!
Ever since I heard the Nagumomu from this concert (uploaded as The Glory of Abheri) on Sreenivasa Murthy Garu's channel, I've been looking for this concert in full. I'm amazed!
Superb concert. With MSG and TVG the performance is in another level. BMK is known for innovative ways of singing right from his early days. In his early days itself he was known to render That's hall mark of a genius. He grew soon to compose many songs. Thanks a ton for the upload, Jayramgaru. You are doing a great job in bringing such gems for listeners to enjoy and preserve for posterity.
This is one of the best concerts of Dr. BMK, maybe even the best! Every time I listen to it, I enjoy it even more. MSG and TVG are simply godlike and take it to another level entirely. Krishna-traya are meant for each other and we can appreciate them even more today! Thanks so much for your comments, sir! A quick question: what is your favorite rendition from this concert?
Sanjeev Ramabhadran sir, thanks so much for the comments. It is an honor and privilege to read comments from a great personality like you. I have followed your musical career from when you and Kavita Krishnamurthy Subramaniam released the Ram Nam Sukh Dham album. It is a masterpiece. My mom cannot get enough of your rendition of Koi Vando Koi Nindo Koi Kaise Kaho Re. We would play the album in the car and it still remains fresh today. Also we have been ardent listeners of Swaraanjali. It was thanks to you that I began appreciating Hindustani Classical music more. I also liked that you included South Indian music in the program. When you sang and analyzed BMK's Hamsadwani swarapastara for Vathapi Ganapathim, I was awestruck. You completely nailed it. I have also read your comments on Krishnatraya aka the Dream Team in other videos. For people like me born and raised in the US, your perspective is excellent and refreshing. Like you, I have been exposed to Indian music as a child and muraLi gAnam has been the major influence on me. The Dream team is the best thing happened and I still can't get enough of it. I keep listening to them whenever I can and I always find a new perspective. Their combination is fresh, brilliant, innovative and modern. We won't see another dream team like this again. But we can cherish it even more today. One of these days, I would like to meet you and learn more about music from you. I think it shouldn't be a problem since we are both in the NJ area. You can email me at jsataluri@yahoo.com to get my contact information. Again, it is an honor to read your comments and let's stay in touch.
He is beyond all of us, sir! MSG and TVG are not accompaniments; they are co-leads on the stage! What a combination that seeks to challenge, innovate and dazzle us all!
From listening, I think they are Hindustani Behag, Mohanangi and Sindhubhairavi (madhyama sruti). The first raga may be Vallabhi as well. I will let others chime in with the correct ragas. Sir, what is your favorite piece from the concert? What do you think of KrishnaTraya? How long have you listened to muraLi GAnam? What is the most important aspect of muraLi GAnam according to you? Are you a musician?
Thanks for your reply sir. I have been listening to this concert repeatedly for the past few days. I included this in the list of my all time favorites. It's really difficult to chose a piece from this gem of a concert. Every time I listen, I am discovering a new striking aspect. But, if I have to chose one I'd go for Nagumomu - which for me is the best version of it I've heard so far. Especially the portion where he beautifully weaves around Ga-Ma-Pa-Ga-Ri-Sa is jaw-dropping. Next, the Behag/Vallabhi portion in RTP is beautifully melodious, though short. Gana Sudharasa is my next favorite. I also consider the rendition of Emi sethura linga, Pibare ramarasam and Nannu ganna thalli in this concert to be the best of his, owing to his tender ('leta' in Telugu) and soothing voice. As for MSG, I think his solo violin portion in Nagumomu must come under one of the greatest violin performances ever in the world. His response in Behag/Vallabhi of RTP is also outstanding. TVG is also good. I am very young (23 years) relative to most rasikas here. I have started listening to Carnatic music seriously from only past 4 years and have been listening to murali ganam for 3 years now, thanks to people like you, Srinivasa Murthy and Raj Asokan on youtube. The most important aspect of murali ganam to me is its deceptive simplicity. I play piano as a hobby but I am a researcher by profession. I am curious what would your answers to the same questions? Thank you.
Thanks for your response, sir. Here are mine: 1) All pieces are outstanding, but it's Nagumomu which stands out. The best version I have heard and will remember. 2) Krishna-Traya is the best thing that happened to South Indian Classical music. Their mastery over all genres, their out of the box brilliance, their camaraderie along with their giving the audience more than their money's worth are godlike. They were meant for each other and their music has aged extremely well! 3) I've listened to muraLi gAnam all my life which means starting as a little baby when my parents played his music in the car. The most important aspect of it is its timelessness. This concert never sends me back to the past, but keeps me in the present, enjoying it even more today! 4) I am an associate by profession, but used to play piano when I was a child and play mridangam sparingly. I inherited the musical gene from my mom who learnt vocal from Late Sri Neti Srirama Sharma of Hyderabad (who is BMK's colleague). I am fortunate to have great guides in my musical and spiritual journey. Happy listening to muraLi gAnam and Krishna-traya!
