yo mike i have a 2600 pull magnet with a carabiner i think you should upgrade your line...how much can it hold? also try to get a double sided magnet it will blow your mind i use the double sided magnet and man its strong

What you should do tho is dip the magnet on one side as you go along the pier to the end, then on the way back dip on the other instead of starting at the end. Dipping is the preferred motion instead of pulling it along, my friend. Bringing a functioning knife on your adventures is also a good idea, just for emergencies like you had with the fishing line.

clean the magnet more often before you fish again....
take like an iron brush to brush off all the tiny rusty trash off your magnet.
that will olso help you for more grip on heavy items if you hit one, if your magnet is all dirty like that from all the scraps of tiny metal parts it won't hold on to things.

I been magnet fishing for awhile now and I never seen anyone including myself drop the mag straight down and walk and drag it on the bottom you want to drop it and move it around to increase your chances of getting something but you learn as you go good luck
