When I first learned what was in this one, I was also really worried it would make the game a bit too clunky, thinky, and bog it down as it seemed maybe a bit too much. Really happy to hear that the additions do require some thought but are quite fun, interesting, and don’t slow the game down!
Already ordered this one! Good on Chris mentioning the price:materials ratio. DI is a fantastic design and I have the deluxe and like it a ton, but I always did feel the price point was a wee bit high considering the components in and of themselves. I guess they have every right to charge a bit of a premium for a great design people love, but still it's nice that someone pointed that out.
@@Mahler1988 Tbf as genius as the rest of the game might be, I wish it also borrowed a genius market row like what Dale of Merchants or Copycat did years ago, rather than Ascension's cloggy one wholesale. Especially from a designer who says "good isn't good enough"
The overview was great. Many thanks. At about 01:54, Chris calls the Bene Tleilax a new faction, but the official FAQ as at 14 Dec 22 says they're not: "Tleilaxu track - The Bene Tleilax are not a faction. Effects that let you gain Influence with any faction can’t be used to advance on the Tleilaxu track."
We've been playing Dune with a house-rule where, after the first round, the last card on display gets "trashed". Family atomics sounds great. The market must flow.
Yeah the Family Atomics is a fix needed since Clank! I played a few matches of Dune Imperium where at some point no one buy any cards anymore, once all the availables are bad for all players.
Typical problem with the vanilla Ascension-style markets it seems. Bit sad that the designer who said "good isn't good enough" deemed it good enough despite Dale of Merchants, Volfyirion, and Copycat solving it years earlier
There's a custom rule from BGG called "the sandworm eats the card" that you may use, it cycles the market every turn, the last card on the right disappears if no one has bought it
I think it plays great with Ix. The great thing about it is that you can pretty much ignore it and it'll give you a few things on auto pilot that you can suppliment your normal base game/Ix strategies with, or go really deep in to it and focus on a new way of playing completely.
Depends but I think Rise of Ix is an essential expansion. It makes the less interesting board spaces either replaced or enhanced into arguably the most competitive spaces on the board. It adds techs resulting in more asymmetry, the dreadnought addition makes conflict far more interesting as well controlling locations occur more regularly. And the best addition is it changes the rhythm or pattern of play significantly - spice is far more versatile. It is not just for getting more solari which mainly was for getting your last worker. Mind you I have not played Immortality and it is already on my buy list but I will never play Dune Imperium without Ix. I hope this response is helpful
Ix is a great expansion I think that you should definitely buy that one. Immortality I have not played but if you really like dune imperium I would get it for sure. I'm buying immortality tomorrow I love dune imperium
Was looking forward to this one, excited to hear it's good! By the way, you guys are still having a camera issue during movement in your recordings lately. It's even present during the discussion portion in this video. Not a major issue, but it seems to be getting worse...
@@henrikwakman7776 in general not a big deal but for people who paid for the deluxe big box only to have this little expansion not fit I can understand the irritation
This looks cool, but it's missing 2 things that would've made it an auto buy for me: New leaders and new tech cards. They could have easily added a couple of new leaders and 3-6 new tech cards and then this would have been amazing. I'll still probably pick it up at some point, but it's not an instant purchase.
That's very true. I first thought it had three new leaders cause I somehow missed the fact that there were six new leaders in Rise of Ix (I thought there were only two) and was excited as I saw the what I that were three new leaders in a video inly to learn that they came with Rise of Ix. @@CK-mi3sd I would certainly give the game another try with this included if that's the case. The deck building in the base game + 1st expansion was damn near broken.
@@hugolio_81 I would disagree. If you buy plenty of trashing cards and go to Bene often to trash cards, you will get a decent deck to do crazy combos at the end.
This expansion does not add any additional leaders and looks less of gameplay change than Rise of Ix imo. Rise of Ix gives you more strategic depth and this seems to add just more fun to play cards and move on a track. Also the price difference is only 7 EUR?
@@sarumon17 Newer stuff will always be more expensive than older stuff. But I agree with you that the expansion isn't cheap! I hoped it was cheaper but I guess it has something to do with the IP.
