    We used the same Geberit wall-hung toilet carrier in our small historic house. We used Duravit porcelain fixtures. Even with the super, super hard water here in Tucson, AZ, the toilet system has worked flawlessly now for a year and a half. I love the ability to save space in a small bathroom with a wall-hung toilet, and make the tiled floor easy to clean. I will never use anything but a wall-hung toilet. A pro tip, is to make sure the plumber knows the mounting height for the toilet seat that is preferred, as the carrier must be adjusted to height at install. We mounted our toilets at "comfort" height of 17.5" to 18" above the finished floor.

    • @craftedworkshop
      @craftedworkshop  3 роки тому

      Glad to hear yours has held up well, Ted! I prefer a low toilet personally, so we went as low as it would go, but it's cool that you can customize the height.

    As you were marking out the toilet outlet it gave me bad thoughts of my bathroom rebuild last year. The builder in 1982 apparently ordered the wrong toilet for the main hall bathroom. What should have been a 12 inch offset, he ordered a 14 inch offset. When it came time to install they realized they had the wrong toilet and had to move the drain. Big problem was the new drain location required cutting a floor joist completely in half for the pipe to come up. No other structural support was installed and as a result the floor over time settled and the tile floor cracked every time someone sat down to do their business. Once the water leak was discovered I hired a man to do the repair and that is a whole different disaster. One day in he was fired and I became a DIY bathroom repairman. End result is about a B+ in my opinion. My wife hasn't given me her opinion yet and it's been over a year!

    Interesting that I see many, many videos from the U.S.A, from people showing you how to do your own electrical, gas and water lines. I think gas and electrical are a bomb waiting to happen. You surely can’t watch a few UA-cam vid’s and think, yes I know how to build a house??? In Australia the building standards are pretty much the same everywhere, you need the electrical and gas signed off by a professional who is licensed obviously. Keep up the good work! Cheers, Sean

    Just a note that you do NOT always have to subcontract out your plumbing or electrical. Where I live (central FL), I did about 90% of my own electrical. The only thing I didn't do, which I should have, was run the power from the house to the sub panel. When I got my inspections, the only thing that failed were things the LICENSED electrician did! the Inspector said my work was neater and better than most licensed electricians in my area (Not saying all electricians are bad and he was likely referring to how neat I kept all my wiring).
    Anyways, my point is that you can do it in some areas, with a permit and all on the up and up. You are held to the same level as a licensed contractor so you better either know what you're doing or be prepared to research a lot.

      @@kylephillips8732 The only stipulation locally is that you agree to not sell the house for 1 year after completion of the permit. That prevents the flippers from trying to do their own work and then flipping the house with shoddy work.
      I have to say the experience I had was awesome. The local inspector was very open to giving me tips of stuff to do that isn't code, but just small improvements and he made sure to let me know what he was looking for. I do understand why some places prefer to not let unlicensed people do it though.

    I hope you don't regret that hung on the wall toilet. My own experience with them is they tend to leak the "used" water all over the floor. The leak came from the connection where the toilet meets the 4 inch drain pipe. This was in a commercial building, more than likely with much more traffic than your residential setting. Someone finally called the health department. The building owners were forced to remove the wall mounts and replaced them with floor mounted units thruout the entire complex.

    I saw in a new construction home last week this tiny green tube that went all the way around the perimeter of the bottom floor outer wall (inside the wall). It went down to the crawl space in a few places where it turned blue. This tube might have an ID of 1/16th of an inch and OD of maybe 1/8" inch ...... what the hell is that tube for?

    Very nice job! I followed every episode of the series, and can't wait for the next one :) I am wondering if you can help me with some details regarding the exposed water pipe (and sewage) from underneath the house (area between the soil and the floor), how do you isolate those pipes, and prevent them from freezing. Thanks!

    I do have a question about gluing PVC conduit with wires it it. I've run 15 or 20 amp lines to detatched garages I've built. I was leery of gluing conduit with wire in it, but with multiple turns it's basically impossible to pull that cable through 1/2 inch or 3/4 conduit.
    How did the electricians handle that?

    • @craftedworkshop
      @craftedworkshop  3 роки тому +2

      They just glued it and continued on, I don't think the wire sheathing would be glued to the PVC.

    Is your state different? I’m in Michigan and the home owner can pull a permit to do any work on their own home besides a furnace installation

    • @Sleepdroidstudios
      @Sleepdroidstudios 3 роки тому

      Agreed. Most states I've heard of allow the homeowner to work on their own place as long as they get the work permitted and inspected. You can't work on someone else's home, but you CAN do heating, pluming, electrical, etc. on your own.

    It's so bizarre to see an Electrical panel outside ... I live in Germany, and here it's usually in the basement, and in apartments, you sometimes have an extra breaker panel for your unit in your unit ... which is really neat if your breaker switches off when it's dark and/or raining. Also, doesn't that mean that you need a key to access the thing?

    • @NobukiPhu
      @NobukiPhu 3 роки тому +2

      In Australia, panels are usually located outside, on the side of the building close to a front corner. Usually on the garage side these days.
      We run separate power and lighting circuits, and it is unusual for a main breaker to switch off.
      That way, in the event you overload a power circuit, you still have lights. Or, if you trip your lighting circuit, you usually have a lamp plugged in on the power circuit.
      Not many people key lock their panel, too, as it is to be accessible for the power authority to check your meter.
      If someone was going to turn your power off, they'd have to walk up on to your property, which doesn't really happen.
      As for apartments or a building complex, switchboards are in the apartment and the meters tend to be located in a meter room, somewhere near a service entrance.

    I hope your Samsung washer and dryer are sponsored so you don't have to pay. We bought a Samsung washer and dryer just over a year ago (now out of warranty). The washer has a stuck hot water valve inside which constantly pours hot water into the washer 24 hours a day. The dryer has trouble doing it's one job: drying clothes. No matter the setting, they always come out slightly damp. I would never recommend them to anyone.

      Well he's already did it and the videos are behind. But yes he should've run fiber. Maybe it's Ina conduit though. I actually just did a very similar poolhouse in my backyard in Florida. I ran fiber, cat 6, coax all in a conduit. If it's within 12inches of the power line, it will get some interference. Was also a good excuse to upgrade my network to ubiquiti switches everywhere.
