Generally for sand driving an open tread pattern all terrain is better then a mud tyre for sand driving but always adjust tyre pressure to suit the conditions. Each have their own advantages and disadvantages, A mud terrain will bag more at lower pressures increasing your foot print but a mud tyre can also dig into the sand bogging easier then an all terrain. Comes down to personal preference and what terrain you mostly drive on. Tyre pressures are more important then tyre type.
