Believe me , those gills were needed back then. That older 22 rimfire ammo was very dirty. My Ruger 22 Mark 2 pistole would build up carbon betweem bolt face and barrel that would prevent the bolt from going into full battery .
I have several of these. I have tested the different between bolt and semi for accuracy and velocity - no difference. The bolt action operation was for when using shorts cause they won’t operate the action
Great video man! Really enjoyed your presentation of the rifle with its brief history and some nice range time with it. Just won one in an auction today (and I normally only buy milsurps) so the video is much appreciated, i didn't even realize it had the manual option. Hope to see more videos from you in future.

The bolt action allows you to feed it shorts and longs, i believe.
Good channel, keep it going and thanks.
Appreciate you watching. Thank you!
@@FirearmsandFellowship try the shorts in it at let us know.
I will.
Believe the bolt action feature allows you to shoot .22 shorts that are not powerful enough to cycle the semi-auto action.
Vintage Rifle aka Alan D.
Could be. You probably get a bit more velocity and accuracy as well. It’s a neat feature on a cool old gun. A very unique sounding action.

And that makes sense. Appreciate the comment.
