    Ankle and heel ulcers come under hindfoot location, can we assume these ankle and heel ulcers as diabetic ulcers? Kindly clarify.

      Heel ulcers may be automatically linked to diabetes since the heel is part of the foot, but ulcers of the ankle are classified to the lower limb, not specifically the foot so ankle ulcers do not have the same automatic link to diabetes.

    Hi im having a doubt,, for example right lower extremity ulcer in examination mentioned,, and in assessment diabetes there in this case we can append code like E11.622 and L97.919?
    Pls clarify..

      No. The only ulcer that you can automatically link to diabetes is a foot ulcer. This is because when you look in the alphabetic index the term "foot ulcer" is linked to diabetes by the word "with." The ulcer would need to be specifically documented as being on the foot. Documentation of being on the lower extremity is not specific enough. I would recommend a query to clarify if the lower extremity ulcer is related to the Diabetes if it hasn't been specified in the record.
